Giving away a free mic with Every XBox is like giving away a free pair of scissors with every psichiatric session.

I haven't had this problem on Mass Effect's multiplayer. It usually happens on trash games like CoD and once in a while when I play Halo but I feel like Halo isn't so bad with it. Usually on Xbox people are in parties or don't have mics in.

Although I did have a random guy who I had never met before in my life call me by my first name and say that I was trash. LOL

When playing with d-bags, its the only time I actively try to outscore people. Outscoring them at the end, especially if they had been leading for most of the match can lead to further raging.

Speaking as an Xbox player, it's very polarized. The good people are great (and too few) the bad people are *awful*.

This weekend on xbox was the worst i've seen when it comes to talentless hacks and abusive mic users. I always play gold so the operation must have attracted them like moths. I still couldn't get a decent gold game today before work but it was in the middle of the day and I usually play late-night. Hearing high pitched voices cussing every few seconds before the lobby even loads...priceless.

I'm on XBL, and yes I've noticed this too. If I enter a lobby with some mouthy people, I just leave. Give a person a mic and an anonymous identity, and anything can happen.

Some of us aren't anonymous.  It was intentional to be taken seriously.  The value has dwindled as the years have gone by, but I see no reason to become ZelaznyFan1100 (if available) just to be a dick.

My biggest XBL sin is telling people that they should do this or that, in a tone that implies they should actually listen.  People often chafe at being told what to do by some N7 300 random, and I'm not always right anyway.  I told a Krogan Vanguard delivering pizza that he shouldn't go out where the Geth were, and he either never heard me or ignored me and beat his way past them.  I was apologetic to him after that performance but I thought a less-direct route was safer and was VERY vigorous about saying so.  No insults, but they still might have been taken that way.  Not sure how to avoid it except by pulling the plug on the mic.

Also, I learned that some folks can respond but choose not to.  One teammmate mentioned kill-stealing today, then the person who was labeled the thief, who hadn't said a thing up until then, said he'd mend his ways.  Suddenly it was all a joke, ha ha, and nobody seemed upset afterwards.  Seemed, anyway.  Not sure anybody friended anyone else in that one...

Usually I find most players with mics to be, if not friendly, then at least cooperative. Rarely, however, are they interesting - and for this reason I keeep 99% of players muted. However, late Saturday night I listened (heady with schadenfredue) while a guy on a mic was breaking up with his girlfriend, purportedly for spending too much time playing Xbox. That was pretty interesting.

Well if he couldn't put down the controller for a break-up conversation, then she may have had a point.

She would have had a point, but HE was breaking up with HER. That is, it''s around 3 AM ET, he's playing ME3, she's (I presume) asking him to get off the Xbox, and he proceeds to high gear it to a break up convo (or nasty argument, really).

It was truly horrifying. Interesting, though,

I kinda feel bad for ya console guys. Not only do you have to put up w/ those damn rigid controls and auto-aim, but the community seems much worse than the PCs. I rarely encounter obnoxious or loud (or even somewhat talkative) players on PC.

So is PSN. They don't have mics most of the time, though. I can say the same for the PC audience as well.

I've seen tons of yelling and whining children on PC. And the 'rigid controls' is an opinion. I'm great with console controls.

The only problem I've had with people on mics is if they have music on or if they have the fan blowing in the mic

this past weekend challenge did bring up some of the worst people i've ever played with. just the other night i played a silver match against reapers with two guys in an xbox party and a random other player. during the course of the match, me and the other guy were racking up the kills while they were getting left in the dust. wasn't intentional on my part, i'm just trying to survive the match, help other players and get full extraction, credits, basically having fun etc. but then one of the guys got on his mic and was saying to me and the other guy to "suck his ****" over and over. i laughed even tho i wasn't wearing a mic. when the match was over, he started cursing at us again simply because we "stole" him and his buddy's kills (like it really matters cuz you don't get anything for number of kills.) anyways he continued to curse over and over and then i finally hooked up my mic and told him "it's not our fault you're a crappy player." then i just left. :D

I'm on Xbox and I've actually haven't encountered any real douchebag. I once had a guy who invited my to his Xbox Party and had loud ****ty music and kept singing it and telling homophobic jokes. I don't care about score, but I took pride in outscoring the moron by a lot, then left the lobby.

That's only in ME3, though the sheer amount of intolerant idiots is the main reason why I don't play CoD and others online. I used to have the Mexican flag on the name bar on CoD and had to take it out because of all the ignorant intolerant crap I got thrown at me. Then I decided, you know, I suck at this game, anyway, I don´t have to put up with this bull****, gave the games to my nephew who has tons of fun faking a british-like accent pretty well, never had a problem.

Also, love to play with Brits, not loud, and when they're talkative they're tons of fun. I once had a match in Silver/Reactor with a guy that sounded like a darned Monty Python sketch, funniest man I've ever heard.

This is probably the reason you don't see mics being used all that often and if you do, its normally friends in a party.

Auto-aim?  What is this auto-aim of which you write?  I would welcome this new technology with open arms.  I spend too many hours manipulating sticks on my accursed rigid controller to do my aiming and could use a break.

Does it know that seeking the heads of bosses is no longer a priority over body shots?...
