I've read all the threads about this, but nothing seems to work

At one point, my characters uploaded and updated fine. This all stopped on the 7th of November according to my profile page.

According to diagnostics, I'm getting errors 1001 through 1004, and according to the sticky this means I'm not sending data.

I'm using the PC Steam version
All the ports are OPEN from the stickies
I've taken off gear / changed stuff around / manually saved
Tried manually uploading screenshots (the button doesn't do anything and the screenshots say "awaiting upload")

Randomly I will get timeout or error trying to connect messages in relation to online storage.

My character list is also extremely old, almost all of the characters listed under diagnosis have been deleted weeks ago, and randomly they will be re-added to my profile at times. (??)

Please help! I really want to use the social site features :(

Alternatively, wouldn't a simple solution to all the people having these problems be allowing us to manually upload our character data?

I've been having the same issue!! I think we just have to accept the site is horrible and broken. None of the suggested fixes actually work, only a small amount of people seem to have their toons updated and uploaded. I wonder??? Do you by chance have the Steam version?

Yeah, I'm using the Steam version. I don't even know why this bugs me so much, its not like anyone will care about my characters.

I was able to upload a screenshot today.. I guess thats some progress...

Many users are reporting that characters are not being uploaded when bypassing the launcher and starting the game directly. What are the chances this applies to the Steam version?

I'm having the same problem but it's with a non-steam version. I thought if I deleted my char it would update again but it didn't so I have no char in my account :(. They should just have an update button that people can use.

It's possible - I'm bypassing the launcher via a desktop shortcut. I spose I can try going through the launcher for a bit and see.

Totally agree. If flooding with data is an issue, could simply limit it to X upload per day/hour.

I use a desktop shortcut that links to the launcher - and my characters update (although I DO have various other problems). A shortcut to the launcher is fine. Just don't use the .exe to start the game.

I don't have Steam, does it not have the launcher as well as the .exe?

All of the fixes have worked for me, some better than others, but they've all worked. Changing a setting from the options menu, saving, changing it back, changing my character's gear, saving, changing it back, seems to result in instant updates pretty regularly. When that's not working I just delete my character from the site, change gear, save, change back, save, and then presto he's updated. Sure it shouldn't require all the acrobatics, but the work arounds have worked for me. And yeah, I play on the pc.

It does have the launcher, yes. When you make a shortcut from within Steam though it bypasses the launcher (usually it prompts you which you'd like to do: start the game or start the launcher)

So far it hasn't made much difference I don't think, but whatever.. not that big of a hassle for a few extra clicks if it might help.

Which settings do you mean? Online options or what? I haven't tried that yet.

Interestingly, on my diagnostics page some of my new characters show up without any errors, but they aren't listed anywhere else.

Yes. Some have had success with the following. Making a new save for each character (that is, not a quick save). You may wish to remove all their equipment, leaving them in undies. Go to Option, to the Online tab, and turn off 'upload character'. Exit the game (don't just go to the main menu, exit DAO). Restart the game, reequip  or change equipment altogether. Save again. Then exit game and turn on 'upload character'. Eventually the character should update. [Please note, this is one of several variations of this 'method' I have seen reported as working. Some have fewer steps, but I included all of them so you can see them. Decide for yourself. Give it a try.]

That means they're on the server (somewhere). If they havent' appeared on your profile page yet, that means you're not at the top of the queue. Priority is given to those whose pages are being 'observed' by others, or so I understand. So, either get someone to log in and view your character profile, thus bumping you up the queue (updates are prioritised for those whose page has been viewed in the last day, so you may need to do this regularly) - or do it yourself.

Log in from your browser (not ingame), and go to your character profile and view it - do NOT check your online profile, which requires you to 'sign in' and lets the site know it's YOU and not someone else checking your characters out. This is stupid, roundabout, and tiresome, but I can personally affirm that it works. Your characters will be updated pretty darn quickly.

Now we're getting somewhere! Not all of the characters have shown up yet, but at least some of them have popped up now. It took your profile trick to make the ones appear. What a silly way to make them update.

I'll try the settings changing for the rest of my characters. Anyone know approximately how long you should play after making a manual save to let it upload everything?

My old deleted characters are popping up again too, lol. Damn ghosts!! STOP HAUNTING ME

Deleting the "ghost" characters seems to help with uploads as well, same goes for killing screen shots you don't need since having a backlog of screenshots lost on the server somewhere seems to put a stop to character updates as well.

In regards to what I change in options I usually change the difficulty and I never back all the way out of the game and it seems to work. I just change from nightmare to hard, save, from hard back to nightmare, save, equip a helm, save, unequip helm, save, and usually my stuff gets updated. I've also turned off uploading screen shots automatically. I just upload them myself now and only do a few.

As long as it's a manual save, time shouldn't matter. Quicksave doesn't trigger the update/upload/whatever to save resources.

Good to know. I had turned back on screenshot uploading because I thought maybe it would help, but you're right it probably just creates a flood.

I'm getting a new error on one of my characters in diagnostics that might be related to this:

1005 - Extra unexpected files uploaded for this character.

Not sure if I should be concerned or not lol

I'm not sure - one of my characters only uploaded the story.xml file - and the rest didn't. At the time, I believe I simply did a manual save and ran around for a couple minutes. Perhaps 5-10 minutes is the safest bet.
