Like some other users who have posted on this forum, I was experiencing a General Protection Fault during in-game conversations with Mass Effect 1 on the PC, which I access through Steam.  For the last few weeks, I've made a habit of starting Steam using "Run as Administrator", and after roughly 20 hours of gameplay I have not had any problems with the GPF, or any problems at all, for that matter.

I don't know if this is because of how I'm running Steam, or if there was a quiet fix somewhere, or if I've just been extraordinarily lucky (or extraordinarily unlucky when I was getting the GPF).  Whatever the case is, the problem seems to be gone, and if that's because of something someone at BioWare did, then I wanted to say thanks.  Playing through ME1 again has been a great deal of fun, and it wouldn't be possible if I was still getting the GPF.

So to whoever it was who fixed it, thank you!  You're aces in my book!

BioWare hasn't worked on ME1 for years. GPF is usually caused by incompatible video hardware or graphics drivers. There's one sidequest in the game that can also cause this for as long as you have it, and that can simply be fixed by finishing the mission.

I have to add, that this was happening to me, and turns out that it was because a trainer i was using, (I only use it for the MONEYZ) and switching to another trainer (or not using that one at all) fixed the problem, i know most people don't use trainers, but make sure to avoid having them open while testing if the game crashes because of GPF.
