I like this game a lot but I have a little bone to pick with an issue of copying voices and faces of people without telling them

Dear lord...

A. Spelling, man. At least get it right in the title if nowhere else.

B. You can't plagiarize a voice. Nor can you plagiarize a face. Plagiarism only concerns matters of the written word.

C. Even with text, plagiarism is not a legal offense. You're thinking of copyright violation.

D. In these sorry modern days you have a copyright for your exact likeness and and recordings of your voice(assuming no one else has a stronger right of ownership to it), but that's a far cry from being able to lay claim to a tonal quality of voice or an inspired(as opposed to copied or modified) polygonal figure.

D. Because Ds go better in pairs.

E. With the right lawyers you can justify copyright violation for anything, regardless of how ridiculous it seems, so take D with a grain of salt.

i didn't say he could sue, I said i had a small bone to pick with DAO for copying people.

I don't know why people are jumping to conclusions.

I clearly stated it was my opinion he should get paid. I didn't say I was going to go to a court and sue to get the guy paid. wtf is wrong with peoples ears

Wow...this nonsense is still going.

If the Op wants to see this person get paid for what MAY OR MAY NOT be true...then write the company whatever and move on.

Lawyers sheesh.

1) its "plagiarism"

2) you do realize C&D list actors supplant their incomes with voice over for video games, commercials, TV cartoons, etc?

3) i think everyone realizes gerald bulter/leonidas was used as the model for the dragon cult leader.

4) the only plagiarism was the entire story being a rip-off from LoTR

Even then it's not nearly as blatant as what blizzard did with Wrath.  I think that's about as close to ripping off LoTR as anyway could legally get away with.

The OP is somewhat confused. Plagiarism could only happen if Bioware used the actual voice clips from the film (which could not possibly articulate the script that Bioware wrote for the game!)

It's like saying Christian Slater is plagiarizing Jack Nicholson because he emulates his voice and manner...

Plagiarism involves copying the entire idea or concept and then calling that concept/idea your own with no regards to the original creator of that idea. Having one actor who did a movie and then did voice acting for this game count as plagiarism is what? I'm surprised you didn't go with the zomg bioware copied dwarves and elves theory.

What a weird thread. I like it.

I noticed that many of the trees in the game look like real trees in my yard. Can I sue?

I don't know why people are still replying to this obvious troll thread.  I'm assuming it's a troll thread, because there's no possible way anyone could actually care this much about any of this.

Edit:

Why is it so easy to accidentally double-post on these forums?

Really, that cannot be true they have different surnames.  It is just a coincidence that Martin's real surname is Estevez. Image IPB

It isn't exactly plagiarism to use an actor that has acted before, in something else. It isn't even plagiarism to have a character that looks like someone else. Hell, they publicly announced the models that Leliana and Morrigan were based on!

So who are the models?

Bioware Corps™, stealing voices and beards since 1995.

:wizard:

*Edit - I actually wouldn't be surprised if they caught it in a conch shell, much like that other filthy lawbreaker, Ursula.

cmon now, use some sense. If somebody is a voice actor, they are getting paid to come up with voices. and posters are saying voices have no value in themselves? Yes, they do, that is why the voice actor is getting paid. If he is copying somebody else's voice that is not original voice work and is unethical unless the person agreed to it.

For example, if somebody copied my voice and made millions while i'm struggling to put food on the table i'd like to tell him to fork over some royalties.

let's say an example is: somebody lives in a poor town and they come up with a neat dance style. some dance instructor comes to that town and sees the persons dance style and copies it and starts selling a tape of it that makes millions. U think that person that came up with the dance style deserves nothing and no recognition? comon... sense.

If that was true, comedy impressionists would be screwed.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

The actors are getting paid and credited for the voices they are asked to represent. The voice actor for Morrigan has been a voice actor for MANY games (check IMDB) recently.

You're really stretching your opinion now. You should probably back down.
