I'm playing as a female human noble and I read that Alistair was supposed to bring up a dialogue (if he likes you enough) about how he's technically the heir to the throne as soon as you enter Redcliff Village for the first time. Am I correct in assuming this leads up to him bringing up his sister and his desire to meet her? He didn't bring it up so I'm wondering if its impossible to do the quest to 'harden' his personality now.

If not, what do I need to do in order to start the quest to go meet her? My character is already in a relationship with him.

Also in case its important; I entered Redcliff Village right after Lothering (when Alistairs "rep" with me was still neutral) and completed the village invasion quest, but decided to complete the Tower and Dalish areas first before entering Redcliff Castle.

Just raise his likes towards you, it will come up with afew gifts and talks. If you have some statuettes and find his amulet in the Redcliffe castle, thats worth alot!

It seems that too high approval rating affects personal quests in some cases. I got his quest at +29, when I returned to camp from Circle I think, after Redcliffe and before anything else.
I had a problem with Leliana not triggering the convo needed for her personal quest last playthrough and I assume it was because I got her in high 80ies too fast. I never had such problem when her approval was much lower. Just the starting of "warm" should do I think.

Alistair won't bring up his sister until you find out about his family history. This won't come up until after you've done both the Arl of Redcliffe and Urn of Sacred Ashes quests. Doing both cures Arl Eamon, and his family history comes out then. After that, he should talk to you about his sister if he likes you enough.

So basically just keep on plugging away at the game and it'll happen after I finish up that major plotline. Got it. Thanks!

That is not true. I got his personal quest before I did Ashes quest more than once. I usually do Redcliffe, Circle, and then wander around doing Denerim side quests before I go save Connor/Isolde. Alistairs personal quest pops out at that time based on approval rating I have.

I had proposition of Alistar's personal quest before the Arl of Redcliffe and Urn of Sacred Ashes quests on approval 25+.

Hm. I guess mine is just too high then.

So.. I'm not sure what to do here. Should I just go through and finish the redcliff/urn quest and see if it comes up afterward, or should I use some mods to lower the influence? I don't want to risk breaking my character up with him as I'm going for the Queen ending.

If no one has told you directly about Alistair's origin, he won't talk to you about his sister. Alistair is supposed to talk to you about it when you enter Redcliffe, or later at camp if he isn't with you. If your game bugged and you didn't get that dialogue, then you will find out when you save Arl Eamon - the post-Ashes conversation brings up Alistair's status and sets the alistair_main_told_truth flag to true. Once that's done, Alistair should bring up visiting Denerim to find his sister.

Great, thank you.

It wasn't -too- big of a deal since I'm Noble Human anyways, but I'm getting tired of Alistairs pansy attitude. :P

You did redcliffe village and Allistair did not tell you about his lineage before you entered town the first time? that sounds bugged.

I think most people go directly to the castle after the town...because it's sort of a logcial progression...and you find his mother's amulet there. After giving it to him, then the rest comes up. I wonder if his mother's amulet is needed?

He never pulled you aside and told you who his father was? You sure? Try doing the castle redcliffe and getting the amulet at the end and see if that triggers anything.

No, I have personal quest finished and the amulet is still in my bag.

Alistair talking about his sister is dependent only on Alistair being at least warm/interested and your knowing his origin. The condition doesn't relate back to the amulet, so he "should" bring up his sister whether you have given him the amulet or not.

For me it can up the first time i entered the village and he was with me. All i did prior was talk to him a few times in camp after lothering. I think approval was around 20 or so.

The necklace has no tie to goldanna. The necklace is just the character hinting *zomg personal gift.* every companion that has a personal plot related gift relates back to it during a dialogue, that's it's only relation. Same with the shield, same with zevran's gloves/boots, I am thoroughly disappointed there weren't any cookies for Sten. =/

Just a quick update- I finished the Redcliff and Urn quests yesterday and after the Arl brought up the Landsmeet idea, it 'unlocked' the dialogue next time I spoke with Alistair, so I was able to finish his quest without any problems.

Also yes I can verify that the necklace didn't do anything towards unlocking the quest. I could only talk to him about his family after the Arl was cured (in this case).

Now you mentioned it, I still have that damn necklace in bag and I got him at 100 already. I wish one could give those personal gifts to somebody else once you get to max with the toon it was meant for originally :/

I believe you can-I usually give most of Alistair's gifts to Oghren in Awakenings.

Alistair's mother's amulet is flagged as a plot gift, and (at least on PC) a plot gift will be refused by anyone other than the companion for whom it was intended.
