Dont have any friends to worry about getting passed anything anyway.

I'm now tempted to become Hitch and turn you into a master playa
But that would be too off-topic mate hehe

I am a "player", I play computer games with skinny women who look nothing like the attractive women that exist in the real world that I do see every day.  The video game women are likely in the size 3-5 range whereas my ideal is likely more in the 10-12 range.

And yes, I know what you really meant.  Image IPB

Actually, I play nothing but elves because the human female models are too wide, and they have too big boobs (not to mention dwarfs..). So I disagree with you. I want them more, not less, skinny.

Their stomachs are far too small. The breasts are perfect size, as are the butts, but they need to have bigger stomachs and just overall be more plump.

If the females were skinnier, they would be anorexic. Eww.

Yeah, they can use a bit of meat or at least some tone ;) Elves especially

Elves already are.

For female viewing pleasure of course.
Besides I'm sure you would rather see that in the game then something like my own beergut. :D

The exaggeration of sexual characteristics is applied to the men too, interms of the shoulder width to hip width ratio. In general these games are going to give the women small waists, wide hips and big breasts and give the men narrow waists and broad shoulders. In part it helps to differentiate the sexes with models that are less than human and still have a somewhat cartoonish quality to them (catering more to the aesthetic ideal rather than the practical). If they used more realistic models it would be harder to tell the sexes apart from the side or rear given the relatively low number of polygons per model. In particular if your playing overhead and zoomed out, the distortions help to make those gender identifications.

At any rate video game graphics tend to be an artistic rather than photorealistic medium, as such I'm willing to cut the artists some slack.

I don't think any of the female models look "wide" except maybe the bone structure of the dwarves, but that's just bone structure, so it has nothing to do with weight. I actually think the dwarves look rather attractive for a fantasy game. The shoulders are a little wide on female human characters but that's not a terrible thing. If I was going to harp on anything, it's the hands of the characters for all races and models are freakin' huge! Having taken lots of anatomy classes since I was 15, that's what sticks out to me as a little awkward.

I wish DA had more phenotypes for the characters, that was one thing that disappointed me a little. It would be nice to have a system for difference sizes of characters, height, weight. The only portly fellow in the land seems to be the barkeep in Redcliffe, I can't remember any others. I wonder if they might include sliders for height and girth like in NWN2 as a patch for the future, that would be cool and likely an easier solution than to revamp the entire character bone structures.

In short (heh) it would be nice for the game to have people in a larger variety of sizes, though I understand it is easier just to make one size and go with it, focusing on things like plot. Bioware had alot to do in this game, the character facial customization is great, I just wish they went a little further with it.

I dont know but that Isabella rogue woman has hips like toothpicks. I could never get into the threesome part with her because she is just so utterly unattractive.

LOL, personally I find Lawless is actually a decent build for a female warrior. Toned with muscles but not bulky - still sexy. She's a good height too - as an Amazon.

Elven women in the game are the ones in need of a little meat I reckon.

Xena & Hercules show fan here. Image IPB Xena's build is a classic Dex Fighter build, & she kicked major bum throughout the series. Image IPB

As a female gamer, I have to say I haven't come across a game with a realistic female(body) model yet.*

As for DA:O, I think the problem isn't just that they are too skinny, but totally disproportionate. They either look like they can't support their armor/weapons with their lacking muscle tone, and/or like they are suffering from malnutrition(see scary, protruding collar bones). Yet they boast weirdly over-sized shoulders and (in leather armor) an unfortunate looking six pack. And the absent waist...

Not that I want to see a skinny/fat scale. But I don't think its unrealistic for a female model to be both meaty, curvy, sexy AND seemingly able to wield something more than a butter knife.

This. Except the being female part....

The human females in this game are just plain misshapen. Huge shoulders, stick-thin legs, and in some armor there is some really weird spine curvage going on. The elven women may be stick-thin, but any anatomical oddities don't stand out as much.

I also wouldn't mind being able to play as a male rogue human that has more of a wirey build though. Or a very frail looking mage.

Haha same =)

Lawless was born to be Xena, at 5'10 and with that build xD. I found Callisto way too skinny for her role though in the shows. But her acting made up for it ;)

Personally I find such toned builds very attractive - though some tend to use the term "butch" or too muscular. For me I just go "HAWT!" ;)

The weird anatomy I recall best was the twin lumps of wood/ bone, whatever, on Lara Croft's chest. Huge, but never jiggled or wiggled despite the provocation, and totally out of relatiion to the skinny little butt and chicken legs (earlier version; later on the immovable bosom blobs were smaller, and the butt / legs somewhat better).

Now, don't get me wrong, I never owned or PLAYED any of those Tomb Raider episodes, but she was EVERYWHERE for a long time, it seemed.

Yet, it somehow sold. To be fair, 3d was rather new at that time but still... the hype about her chest... O.O
But I guess most of us here on the DA:O forums are mature audiences instead of adolescents, so we prefer more believable builds.

My female elf warrior in heavy dragbone armor, beside Alister in regular heavy armor!
Now does that look silly or what???

Oh and I have always prefered brunettes. The one time I got involved with a blonde was the biggest disaster of my life!

It's the current fashion to have the "ideal" female be rather skinny.  Had the technology been around in the 50s, the female models would be far more voluptuous.   I have been wondering if we, as in those with that cultural ideal, aren't starting to move back toward a curvier body ideal.  When you look at many of the recent female pop stars (ie Shakira or Beyonce) they are beautifully curvy.  And with the rise of the female star athlete, we are also beginning to admire a "heathier" body type.  At least that's what I beleive I am seeing.  But it can take a long time for such shifts to pervade the greater culture, so we will likely no be seeing "athletic" female forms in games for quite a while yet.

i agree with you. i know i loooooooooove shakira. she is so hot. i hate the bony look. i think it would have made sense to have a more muscular build for human females for those playing female warriors. for elves it would've looked silly since they're all skinny anyway. dwarves are stocky no matter what gender you play. maybe a future change in a dlc????? bioware????? :P
