The only way Kai Leng could've been a competent character was if he was a squaddie in ME2, possibly as a guy who really looked up to Miranda, and envied the position and everything Shepard was given after being revived, then he evolved into the cook we see in ME3.

Oh, he most certainly was hated, just not the way or for the reasons the writers' intended

Congratulations OP. This is literally the only thing idea I have heard of that would be the WORST part of ME3 if it were implemented. That's a pretty tall order you filled there.

Tell me Do they just give out degrees in Smug and smartass or do they just let anybody pass?

Nope....and Ashley is more of a cynic that a "*****" as you so eloquently put.

Kai Leng is supposed to be a character that makes you hate Cerberus. With his smug attitude and his superior-than-thou mannerisms (even when he repeatedly backs off against taking Shepard head-to-head, toe-to-toe), Kai Leng is meant to be hated.

By hating Kai Leng, its hoped that the player will hate Cerberus as well.

Written so badly that players hate him =/= written with the purpose of being hated. People don't hate him for his actions and character; they hate him for what he represents as a video game character (unbeatable cinematic boss with awful dialogue).

Really your have a problem making a Deal with morally questionable people...

Wrex asks you to help kill a guy.

You can help Zaeed flatout murder a bunch of people just so he can kill one guy.

Morinth is Morinth

You can actaully encourage Jack's violent over the top bordline pyschopathetic behavior -granted Me3's horrid characterization on anybody not from ME1 and Vega has here become resposible anyway-

If Kai Leng were on your squad, the game would be too easy. It's a well known fact that Harbinger checks under his bed for Kai Lengs before he goes to sleep at night.

Won't learn 'smug and smartass' out of a book, it's more of a lifestyle choice than a skill :P

And yes... Khai Leng is a horrible, forced paper tiger villian. If he were shoehorned into my squad I'd uninstall the game *and any other BW games*

Oh Hell, I just saw that you thought it was because he's a killer.... no my friend, it's because he's a joke.

I never read deception (thank the goddess) but even in Retribution Kai Leng was comically evil, every other thought that popped into his head was how much he hated aliens. The only reason he was even alive is because Anderson was holding the idiot ball and didn't just blow Leng's head off at the end of Retribution.

To be fair I probably would have thought double tapping both his legs would have been enough as well.

No.  But I love the idea. I would donate 20-100 bucks for them to make it.  I say "donate" because I would never actually buy it.  I'd just read threads and watch Youtube videos to enjoy the reactions.

Really, though, Kai Leng would be a very useful team member.  No upgrade like plot armor.  And as he reflects bullets and punches with (space) magic, he'll keep talking, and talking, and talking...;]

But that's a false premise. You can't competently jam in a new main villian in the final 1/6th of the series *comics/books don't really count for much in the scheme of the game*.  He didn't have enough time in game to be fleshed out properly.  Now you're asking me to take him seriously as a bad guy in less time than that, followed by him joining the squad?  Too much going on there.

Anymore AssBackwards then Morinth?

Well, I never recruited Morinth except one time when I was playing Shepard as mentally unstable, but yes, it would be - Morinth is evil, but she is not pledged to an organization or an agenda that is opposed to Shepard. While I don't think it was realistic for her to be loyal enough to go through with the suicide mission, having her join Shepard temporarily as a bargain for her own survival would make sense.

However ME3 is TIM slowly letting his ideals slip. Retribution states while his deathly loyal Kai is more then capable of thinking for himself -anybody whose played just ME3 laughs -_- -

though that might be against the Writing Teams idea that TIM is cobra commander and all his Cobra troopers are just brainless minions for him to command in me3

I haven't read the books, but doesn't the Prothean VI say "indoctrinated presence detected" right before Kai Leng shows up on Thessia? If so, there's your answer for why he's still following TIM.

The way he was written just really annoyed me.  It was as though Drew spent considerable time watching Dragonball (whatever iteration) with his kids for Goku's training method in a high gravity module to find its way into the book.  Then there's how "perfect" he was to overcome Every. Single. Obstacle. that it became a joke.  Is this guy the equivalent of Nemesis from Resident Evil?  Always appearing at the right place and always extremely hard to put down...until it's deemed right by the powers that be.

I forget which book it was that Kai Leng was introduced, but I hated him since then.  It got to the point where I couldn't come up with a satisfying method of killing him.  As a result, I found his death in ME3 to be completely unsatisfying.

I also though he wouldn't act like a teenager though so there you go.
