Man, now that you mention, i never compared Shale and HK-47. There is actually a certain resemblance. Didn't HK-47 also called my character "squishy"? (not that this is a bad thing of course, i loved HK-47:whistle:).

PS: i believe i found the first person ever to complaint that Sten talks too much :D

Let's see...some of these are repeats:

KoTOR II - Made an abiding, unreasoning, vitriolic hatred for LucasArts grow within me.

Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST - Let's concentrate on multiplayer and have a 15 hour co-op campaign where you float along with graphics you can't see for 10 minutes at a time you can't skip past. Meh.

Oblivion - ZZzzzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzZZZZzzzzzzz...

Halo Wars - Possibly the worst RTS console implementation imaginable. I love Ensemble, was so excited about this game. VERRA disappointing.

Star Wars Galaxies - Let's take a fun MMO, listen to the biggest whingers, and totally FUBAR the game. See KoTOR II comment.

I'm sorry, but the NWN2 Toolset works like a charm compaired to the DAO toolset. Especially on level design. Obsidian did a fine job making a toolset for a modern game at the time in 2006, which had most things working, especially the simple-to use lighting.

And you dont need to be an IT specialist to get the NWN2 toolset to run.

compared to the DAO toolset perhaps, but compared to the NWN1 toolset its quite terrible. Took them a lot of patches to finally put an undo button in it for example. The screen is also way too cluttered, it would require two monitors to have some sort of overview while keeping a decent gameworld screen. And everything takes a lot longer. Having more freedom is nice to have, but even building a small village would take a month where a very detailed village could be made within an evening with the NWN1 toolset.

Spore.

It had so much customization, but the game play ended up being exactly either way. Kind of ruins the point of all the customization.

As a Spore player, (TyraxLightning) I agree. The creators are darn okay, but the main game itself is lackluster & doesn't offer much replayability. I got my $50 outta it & have no regrets about gettin it, but i' not eyeballing any other expansion or sequel in this game line.

I'm not sure when yet, but i'm eventually closing my Spore account & sending it inactive. (Perhaps when I get my puder upgraded & get DA:O.)

Final Fantasy 8. It sticks in my mind as something I hated with a fire that burned but did not consume.

I didn't see this coming at all!  FFVIII was really dissapointing as SE's attempt to top VII.  Emo kids running around and the magic system was just retarded...

Hellgate: London. Good God, I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I was with that game. But other than that I'd probably have to say Oblivion which seemed incredibly bland as a setting when compared to it's predecessor [Morrowind].

Oblivion and Fable 2 take the cake. I had high expectations for Oblivion after Morrowind, was truly let down. I didn't even have high expectations for Fable II, seeing as Fable was pretty simple. I just wanted a simple game that would be fun. However, it STILL managed to dissapoint me.

Oh and Assassin's Creed. I was under the dilusion that it would be good like the Splinter Cell of PoP series' ....nope. I haven't played the second one.

- Ultima IX Ascension (possibly the most depressing disappointment I ever felt over a game.) - I still have it and play it now and again because I love how nearly seamless it is, but there's always this feeling of what could have been.

- Age of Empires 3 - I suck at RTS games as a rule, but after completing all campaigns in the wonderful Age of Empires 1 & 2, I figured 3 would be a shoe-in. I figured wrong.

- Darkstone - the 3D Diablo clone. The singing lady in the first town was the highlight for me.

- NWN2's original campaign - the way party members were forced on me, and resulting contrivances. Obsidian even admitted, in hindsight, they would like to have done it differently. I keep the game because of MotB and SoZ.

That's about it.

NWN2 was *at first* disappointing. However, once they fixed the game so it would actually run, it was better. Not to mention, the expansion made the whole game worth it. One of the few expansions that just took the game to another level.

Oblivion was definitely a poor man's Morrowind. Wasn't too disappointed in it though.

Add one to the list: Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Not because the game is bad, it just never took off. Well, randomized weapon spread is really bad. Still play it though.

Icewind Dale. Bought it as a BG2 fan. Played for about one hour and needed 3 hours of quality games to lure my mood out of the cellar again.

And Mass Effect. I liked the game. I really did. But the basis is really broken. The inventory has probably already been mentioned. I'll talk about it anyway. 150 items limit and you can neither store items somewhere on your ship nor sort them in some fashion so you know which ones to sell/destroy and which ones to keep. The process of destroying them (which often becomes necessary during missions) is like a constant reminder that somebody at BioWare hates your guts. And why all this nonsense anyway? Why use a weapon system that is befitting for a MMORPG in something that's supposed to be an RPG? The military equips their best soldier with the weakest weapons available, ones that have about 1% of the effectivity of the high end of the scope, and they even give you weapons that you never trained to use (and never will) and expect you to carry them around for the rest of your life. If you want better armament you'd better start looting the enemy (highly illegal) or at least I believe that's what's happening. HQ wouldn't reward me for my kills with weapons that nobody wants to use, right? And expect me to sell it to civilians?

And then there is this fortune wheel of a dialogue system. Excuse me, I'd like to know in advance what my character is going to say! (in fact, I'd like to choose the lines)

Now I've only mentioned Bioware games. Baaad sign. Okay, to prevent a ban, let's think of something else as well.

You people say you didn't like Oblivion? I say Morrowind was bad already! It's like a strolling simulator, only you actually want to get somewhere (but can't). And the carreers are awesome. Leading both the thief guild and the Imperial Guards my duties were... nonexistent.

People greeted me politely though.

I personly liked the way conversations worked with Mass Effect, it does make it a lot more lifelike and makes Dragon Age feel like a step backwards in that regard.

But I agree about the inventory getting cluttered. Same goes for Dragon Age and KOTOR though. And NWN2, Oblivion, Morrowind, and an awfull lot of other games.

In fact its quite difficult to find a good inventory system in any game.. Neverwinter Nights worked quite fine though with several tabs and quite some inventory space, with more tabs and a bit more space it would be perfect.

Its an overall problem though that you need to take stuff you wont use to sell it in many games, causing you to carry too many things with you. Thats something that needs to be fixed, then you wont need much inventory space anymore.

I notice many mention Fable2 as the disappointment, I personly was very disappointed in Fable1 and not at all in Fable2.

Fable1 promised many things and didnt deliver, it was a good game but couldnt live up to the grand hype it created.

Because of that I didnt read any info at all about fable2 and just looked at some screenshots when I happened to run into them but never looked for info and as such knew very little of the game when I bought it, I only read a review about the final product.

Theres quite some stuff in Fable2 that I would wish would become more common in other games. The world is quite small but its very much alive, Oblivion and Morrowind have dead worlds compared to this.

And I also like how clothes and armor dont give armor bonusses or such but merely affect how NPC's treat you. Because of this you can really use your own style and not care about status. You can wear what looks good instead of some crappy looking outfit just because it has better status.

Combat works quite nicely as well, the story is terrible but Lionhead studios does not have the reputation of making good stories, expecting a good story from Lionhead is like expecting a good combat system from Bioware, a tough masculine character from Square-Enix or creativity from EA.

It's lifelike if I have no idea what I'm going to say next, which might even be the opposite of what I really wanted?
Okay, there are misunderstandings. But those usually take place between people, not between brain and mouth.

But I agree about the inventory getting cluttered. Same goes for Dragon Age and KOTOR though. And NWN2, Oblivion, Morrowind, and an awfull lot of other games.

Of the games you listed, I only know KotOR and Morrowind. And while KotOR's system appears similar, there is a major difference that you have an actual inventory (which doesn't affect the game too much though :D )
What's really different is that a) you're not forced to destroy new stuff because your bags are full B) you don't run risk of selling/destroying stuff that you really wanted to keep because things are sorted much better (and have pictures), c) you don't need a third gun if you want two people to exchange their weapons ... (I could go on)
Of course, I still prefer inventories like the one in Morrowind, which is why I can't really understand why you're comparing it to the mess that's in Mass Effect (and I'm not going to point out any differences as I wouldn't even know where to start).

Its an overall problem though that you need to take stuff you wont use to sell it in many games, causing you to carry too many things with you. Thats something that needs to be fixed, then you wont need much inventory space anymore.

And I have no idea why this kind of action has to take place in Mass Effect where you should be supported by the army (or even the council).
Interestingly, the game is actually able to let you keep more than those 150 items (as I found out by cheating), it simply doesn't want you to have too much at once (which is not because you can't carry all that stuff - I'm pretty sure that the animation of the 4 weapons on your body means that you are really only carrying them and nothing besides - especially not 20 heavy full body suits of armor)

KOTOR 2 - Unfinished and my hopes may have been too high. Last time I let that happen.

Fight Night Round 4 - Counters ruined it. 90% of people online just block and run until they get a counter off. I never thought there would be a fighting game that you could stand and not defend yourself and the other player would be huddled in there waiting for you to swing to counter. That and the lose of one hit knockouts.

The biggest letdown ever for me was Empire: Total War.

I absolutely enjoyed the franchise from its early days. Empire TW is just soooo wrong in all its aspects.

Whyso, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a huge fan of the TW series and found Empire to be on a par with the rest of the games. Perhaps it is slightly through rose-tinted glases as I do prefer the era over the previous topics.

I'm looking forward to Napoleon:TW also.

I have to say the Sims 3. I have loved the Sims series ever since the first game came out. Can't even begin to guess how many hours I've spent with the series since.

But the Sims 3 seems to lack too much. The humor and adorable "weirdness" is almost gone. And the worst thing is, the game is incredibly high maintenance. It needs to be re-installed after every single patch and using cc has been made incredibly difficult.

I haven't really played with my families for months. All I do is build houses for other people to download and to fill my neighbourhood. And now even that seems to have ended since the latest patch made the game totally unplayable. So I ended up unistalling the whole thing. *is bitter*

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Fallout 3. There are so many things wrong with it that I hardly know where to begin! Should I start with the broken, clunky and (even now) unpatched engine? Or rather, the horrible dialogue with the same 3 voice actors spanning dozens of characters? Or the black and white 'karma' system that results in a whole town attempting to kill you if you accidentally pick up an item out in a public space? I could go on for hours.

aaaaaahh, but the fact that dad's voice actor is Liam Neeson overlooks many of these flaws  :D

But i admit Fallout3 is almost unplayable unless you install 3 main things:
-FOOK (practically rewrites the game)
-Mart's Mutant Mod (overhauls the monster & AI system)
-The unofficial patch (made by fans, who seem to be the only ones who know what they're doing)

After that, Daaaamn, what a difference! That bugfest turned into an enjoyable game!:o

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2: In comparison to IWD these games were clunky, tedious and not fun for me at all and I never even finished them. I just lost interest and the ancient ruleset didn't help.

Empire Earth III: This game was just plain horrible, even the most pwerful beast of a PC will chug playing this atrocious looking game.

Deus Ex: I just couldn't get into it for some reason, it wasn't at all engaging and RPG system in it was way too complicated. A lot of aspects about it just annoyed me. It was also hard to figure out how to approach the gameplay(as front on combat got me killed and stealth also got me killed). I'm gonna drop a bomb here and state that the sequel was ten times better.

The main problem with Fallout3 is the very weak lore and design. I just dont believe in the story and the world.

The nuclear war was a long time ago yet most people live in a house with lots of rubble in it. they would at least have cleared that out unless they moved in a day ago.

Hi tech weapons exist, electricity as well yet there are no operational vehicles. It would have been a lot more enjoyable when getting to ride a bike or buggy around the wastelands.

Nothing has been fixed up either in all those years, everything looks like the bombs fell no longer than a year ago.

There are many dangers around yes, but the safe places would be able to make renovations. Broken buildings could be taken down since its useless either way.
