All dragons with wings are female, ergo the Archdemon is most likely female?

So thats why they rampage.

What are you implying? I SHOULD STAB YOU AND RIP OFF YOUR...
I mean, I wish to discuss in a civilised manner the implications of your statement. Yes.

Pah I can come up with better period jokes than that.

Like "I'm only a blood mage once a month."

This just in: humanity sucks.
And that goes for elves, dwarves and whatever other not-human-but human races we can think up.
What would you prefer? A happy world of flowers and carebears and a smiling happy sun? Those don't exist. And never will. Yes, I'll sooner accept a world with dragons and magic and broodmothers than one where everybody gets along and nobody is disenfranchised.

That doesn't make it not worth saving however, and there are many reasons why each individual character may want to sacrifice themselves.
And if not, they can get their patsy to do it. Or have an evil witch impregnated. So really, what's the issue?

I'm not asking for a utopia.  By definition, there'd be no conflict and no game.  I'm asking for something worth dying for... :-P

Also, I didn't say "This game sucks," etc.  Just expressing my thoughts about the nature of self-sac in DA.

The human nobility is corrupt.

The dwarven social system is unjust.

The elves are a bitter and broken people.

Mages submit to a hypocritical church and live as its prisoners.

Why would you sacrifice yourself to preserve this status quo?

Hells, if you can't tear down these institutions, why not join up with the Archdemon and watch it all burn?  Or at the least head north to Orlais, let Ferelden fall, and force the Grey Wardens of Orlais to deal with the Blight?

Lol, that´s why I argued in some other thread you should be able to become godlike emperor, because I want to stop all the problems you described. I actually said I´d like to threaten the Landsmeet if they dont crown me I´d go to Orlais and watch Ferelden fall.... But you cant...

The reason why you want to sacrifice yourself or one of your party for Ferelden is that it´s the only way to finish the game (except for Morrigans ritual, what means you sacrifice her child).

Read The Calling, the darkspawn do want to create utopia and live in peace. You're trying to stop them.

You're EVIL.

Seriously? Sounds like I am Legend.

I might like to read that.

Why in the world would you ask for something worth dying for?

If it's worth dying for it's worth sending some other poor bastard to die for you instead!

Despite what the story suggests, I see no reason to think that the darkspawn taking Ferelden would mean all of Thedas falling before them.

No, they would have problems with the Orlesian border...

But they would be much harder to eradicate.

Very nicely put.

But I'm not so sure that the real world is worth dying for either.  ;-)

Eh, I'd like to play the apathetic role... but if it came down to it, I would die to protect those I love without hesitation. I am somewhat disillusioned by humanity having been witness to some of the worst of it with my very own eyes, but I also see the good in the world. It's not all darkness and hatred and utter hopelessness, there is compassion and love. And I'm of the opinion that there is always hope.

I have a hard time playing neutral and "bad guys" because it's just not who I am, regardless of how much I say I hate people.

All dragons are supposed to be female, the males are known as drakes and don't have wings.

But yeah, everyone refers to the archdemon as a he. No idea why.

To be perfectly honest I myself find little worth dying for anywhere, as I much prefer making someone else die for it instead.

But remember, Ferelden has cookies. Do it for the cookies.

I believe it's because the Archdemon is a corrupted Old God, and generally God = He. Old Goddess would have been proper.

That's an incredibly narrow and selfish way of thinking. Our real world is no better than "barbaric" Ferelden. There's an ever-widening rift between the rich and poor, social injustices are as common as mosquitoes, terrible men lead nations, religious fanatics threaten our very existence... and yet, we don't submit. We don't lay down and give up. It's not our way, so why should it be any different for a Grey Warden? They do their duty because it must be done. Evil must be fought, and the innocent must be protected.

So I take it you are a member of our armed forces, and are just awaiting deployment?  Or, is it more likely that you believe what you wrote, but believe that somebody else should do the dying for you?  With that said, the question is sacrificing one's self, not the armed forces, to save the world.  12 Bravo, Combat Engineer, or I was, when I served this country.  46 is far too old to re-enlist, or I might have.  The point being, that while self sacrifice is the one option I haven't taken yet, I also had a character that believed that while the world did need to be saved, she surely wasn't giving up her life to do so.

The Old Gods were male and female, but this one is supposedly Uthierl (sp?), the male god of beauty.

I'm not sure how join the armed forces would help fix the gap between the poor or remove social injustices. If he believes that his own leaders are terrible men, joining the army would be the last thing he'd want to do.

Only one of those *might* suggest joining the army, but even that's questionable. Joining the FBI would be a better bet.

"God" is a catchall term. You can say "Greek God" even though many of them were female.
To say nothing of the fact that they aren't really gods, and any genders Tevinter may have placed on them for the purposes of their mythology is irrelevant.

A male god of beauty?  How ironically progressive.
