I am up for anything that removes Starbrat out of the picture.

Thumbs up.

Thanks everyone for the praise and the suggestions for V3.0. It looks like after a huge spike of people viewing the video, it has tapered off a bit in the last few days. I'm wondering if it will spike again this weekend!

That also reminds me ... any ideas where else would be a good place to post a link to this video? The official ME boards only get so much traffic. :)

Agreed, Captain McBuck. I think there's a difference between players not "understanding" the complexity of the ending and players just not liking it. The "deus ex machina" has been used in literature for hundreds of years. At the end of a complex story, a godlike being appears and fixes everything so that the story ends in a certain way. In Ancient Greek tragedies, the deus ex machina literally was "god by machine". An actor, dressed as a god, would be lowered onto the stage by a machine (a winch). The god would then fix all of the problems in the script and the story would end.

Hmm ... the starchild really is amazingly similar to that, isn't he?  A godlike being appears with the help of a machine, and fixes all the problems with the story.

The problem with the deus ex machina is that modern audiences don't like it! While having a god fix all the problems felt fine to the Ancient Greeks, to us it feels very artificial and like a cop out of having to create a logical conclusion to the story. There's nothing wrong with using it, except that people don't tend to like it very much.

Exactly, Deus Ex Machina is usually done by a Writer when he's writen himself into a corner and can't write himself out again.  In ME3 we didn't need the God Child, the narative and script was just fine, in fact the God Child actually causes more problems to narative Coherence than he solves, he derails the plot so badly he turns 3 games worth of hard work, great writing and deep emotional themes which Mass Effect earned the hard way into FUBAR and it dosn't matter how "Artistic" it is, or how wide your scope, or how far reaching your themes if you've lost Coherence in your narative.

One more thought ... are folks interested in having the same ending but made with the standard FemShep?

Deal. I've been trying to figure out what to do next. Now that I know I can use an editor to flip Shep's gender before the final scene, I'll make a second version of the Hero Ending staring FemShep. Details to come!

You know you can choose to kill all the geth before the final battle

The ending was masterfully pieced together. Kudos for making the ending that I - and apparently many others - wanted! Now I can finally be happy about the end of Shepard's story.

Like some have noted in the thread I, too, noticed how editing the Starbrat out completely only made the ending better. I didn't need to know anything about the reapers or any other random stuff the Starbinger tells me. I came to the end with one thing on my mind and one thing only, to destroy the reapers. Once I get back home I'll bookmark your video and play it whenever I play through Mass Effect series :)

I don't dislike the Catalyst sequence, but I can strongly appreciate the resonance and enjoyment factor of a version of the endings completely omitting that scenario altogether, and this was very well-done indeed. I would enjoy a run of the game completely bypassing the Catalyst events in favor of this simpler, very effective rendition.

The "Shepard breathes/fade to black" thing still bugs the hell out of me though, but what else would you do, copy Shepard-from-the-rubble from ME1 frame-for-frame? XD

I think there's something appealing and simple about the final scene being Shepard's survival.  Personally, I wanted the final scene to be Shepard reunited with his/her love interest.  In my head, Jack is the one who pulls Shep out of the rubble.  However, as you mentioned, all we have to work with is the footage that we can splice together.  It's hard to splice things together in a way that maintains the production values of the original game.

There is a person in the Deviant art who makes nice gif's:

Is there a way to incorporate some of these into your ending?

 We're baaaaaaack!

So with the release of the new DLC, it should be possible to make a few enhancements to the Hero Ending.

Someone pointed out that it's not very realistic to have Shepard found by Liara.  Liara is onboard the Normandy, and it likely takes days or weeks for the Normandy to be spaceworthy again, and longer to get back to Earth.  If she's the one who finds Shepard, the poor boy has been laying in the rubble for a really long time!

My plan is to edit the voice at the end to make it one of the secondary characters who finds him.  Right now, I'm most likely to choose Jack for that role.  She was on Earth at the end of the final battle, and could easily have gotten herself up to the Citadel in time.

And ...

The new romance scenes with Jack in the DLC make it pretty clear she was PREPARING for a future in which Shepard is buried under a pile of rubble!

Stay tuned, v 3.0 of the Hero Ending coming soon!

Very cool.  It looks a bit different in content from this ending, but I'll be sure to check it out!  I don't suppose you have a video of the ending so that I could watch it rather than playing it?
