I've got no problem with people who say that this isn't the ending they wanted. I think we all wanted something different out of the game, and for some people the official canon endings work. However, I remember reading that someone on the Bioware team said that they'd have "no idea" how to make an ending that's any different than the ones they gave us. That struck me as really odd, as it seemed pretty easy to do. That's what got me started thinking that the ending that a lot of us wanted could be edited together.

Know what I would really love? I'd love Bioware to give us an option. If you max out your EMS, and you gather all the resources needed, THIS becomes the ending you get. It wouldn't be hard to work this into the official canon. The starchild said that the Crucible was flawed, and that's why you need to choose between Red, Green, and Blue. Well, what if the Crucible ISN'T flawed if you worked hard enough to assemble your resources? You plug it in and it fires, bypassing the starchild completely?

It COULD happen!

Yup.. nailed it, although to be honest I almost think that the breathing scene at the end should be removed as well - it's a cheap tease by Bioware in the first place because they clearly had no intention of bringing the character back (as if anyone would even want them to when they ****ed up the series so badly). The ending is more powerful when there's no question that Shepherd is dead.

Otherwise, this is how I will remember the ending of Mass Effect, because I'm damn sure not playing through them again.

Thanks for a lot of work and a great job[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie] If only Bioware weren't so stuck on "artistic integrity", etc. and
hadn't tried to get artsy-fartsy on us, something like this is what MOST (not all) fan/players wanted; at
least as one possible choice. I have no problem with choices, as long as at least ONE of them is GOOD!!!
The EC was a VERY SLIGHT improvement, but not nearly as good as your single ending! Thanks again.

It sounds like you're stuck on  "artistic integrity" based on no one has to change an ending to a novel, comic, movie, tv show, or video game if they don't want to.  Btw you shouldn't contradict yourself with the EC based on that  "artistic integrity"  jab.

P.S. Did you notice is the clips how the red globe that wipes out the reapers on Earth, that the Normandy
is outrunning, BEFORE the Crucible actually fires, also makes all the nearby ship, reapers, debris, etc.
vanish - then when the clip show the Crucible actually fireing, there are STILL debris reapers, etc drifting
nearby???? NOT LOGICAL... Nothing to do with you, just pointing out another Biounaware contradiction.

Yet you're assuming that those Reapers were being killed off was from the Crucible, which I hope you know what assming does.  Btw you shouldn't be complaining about logical in sci-fi based on how most of the things in the sci-fi is fantasy for a reason like Element Zero and Mass Relays in ME.

Yet you missed the point since the endings aren't made for everyone just like any other game, movie, tv show, novel, or comic.  Btw this is still opinion based on whether an ending is good or bad even when more people prefer the Bioware endings over fan endings.

We all know you'll play a ME game again and its always bad to say never.

Everyone has their own tastes whether they're a Bioware employee or not, which this isn't a surprise in writing teams.

You can't kill the star child based on how its the Reaper AI thats also the Reaper leader.  So far the closest thing that you got is the Refuse ending.

I highly doubt that just like how Bioware hasn't remade the endings.

UPDATED 7/31/12: VERSION 2.0 of the ending is LIVE!

Fan-requested changes:

Geth light is now white instead of green (I spliced the footage from the synthesis ending and didn't correct the light color until now).

A special surprise at the very end - Shepard is FOUND! Take a look, starting at 13:50.

If that doesn't make you pump your fist and go HELLS YEAH! then I don't know what will!

If you like the new version, please feel free to link to it elsewhere. The only way to get people to see it is to post about it! :)

I like the new version very much especially the ending when they find Shepard in the rubble. Thanks Vuduu. :) Reunion!!! Awesome. That's what I wanted.

Now that's an ending.

Oh I wish I could think of a way to force the game to just play this movie instead.

I think I've watched this like six times now. That new bit at the end is great. I might have faded to black before hearing the name instead of before fading to black. But THAT actually is a matter of artistic direction/integrity. It is pathetic that using stock footage and sounds from the game, that a fan can create an ending more consistent with the major themes of the game and without violating multiple baselines of established canon.

Bioware can't better this except to add choice and flavor text. Renegade/Paragon options during the cut scene, additional cut scenes with plugs for the consequences of your decisions. The ending was always supposed to be binary. We win or we don't and how badly in either case. Instead they gave us join the enemy, become the enemy, or screw every one with a bit of tech under their skin.

So thanks. From here on I can ALT+F4 after the Illusive man shoots and play this video. I'm not going to buy any DLC for ME barring a change of heart from Bioware, but I can at least enjoy my Shepard again and the money I've already spent.

That is just.. so.. so awful. Wow. This is why some of you people don't make games. And never should.

Did it break your arm?  Did it take money out of your pocket?  Did making that general poke at those who don't agree with you make you feel better?

With all due respect all the OP did was remove the Catalyst scene and canonize the Destroy ending.
