But the biggest pain is the Oger in the tower as a Mage doing a solo nm run, peace of cake when using the barrels to hide behind, but if you try it by kiting...

My first play after encountering her, I was convinced that battle was supposed to be impossible, since the next part was 'Captured'.
I reloaded again, and cheated to win... just to see what happens, and low and behold I was able to leave.....
Thinking I might have broken my game, I reloaded again and just gave up so I could go directly to jail.
The back alley ambushes caught me by surprise, several times.
Spiders dropping down on my head, ALWAYS makes me jump, even when I know their about to do it.

The fist time I got the back alley guard ambushes, I learned the power of scattershot... the hard way.
The first time with Cauthien, i didn't know I could get away of the fight, so I tried 8 times (Oghren finished the fight alone, hiding behind a door and pulled archers one by one by opening and closing it... that felt sooo lame XD).

Ser Cautherien is still the hardest (not the wussy mode of course). And the bloody scattershot spammers.

Other than that it seems to have a degree of luck some battles are tough one play through and then easy the next.

@nauthiz84: That's true, I had a **** of a time trying to beat that wolf random encounter. You can't really avoid being surrounded and they scale to your level, so they all have overwhelm and there are like 12 of them....You can't really use CoC or fireball because they surround you and they kill your mages fast...
Yeah that wolf encounter can be a **** if you activate it right after you step out of Lothering.

Easily Gaxkang takes the cake for me, I actually tried to keep all three of my party members alive so I wouldn't use up all of my health poultices. 30 mins later, I (arcane warrior) am the only person alive drinking only lesser health poultices, and was lucky enough to beat him. I hear people actually find Gaxkang easy, and the Archdemon difficult, but I found the Archdemon to be a freaking joke. I didn't even use the circle mages only dwarves...

Yeah, I was meaning to mention that one myself. It's particularly annoying because you have to walk in and trigger the gratuitous cutscene (which, from memory, certainly does not have any dialogue options that you can use to avoid a fight - it's basically just a "raaargh we're going to kill you" custscene), otherwise they're "neutral" and untargettable. Then, because you've come out of a cutscene your party is all in a group and for some unknown reason, despite being in a clearly hostile area and having listened to a bloodmage ranting on about how they're all going to die, the party hasn't even drawn their weapons, so you get hit by a volley of fireballs basically before you get a chance to respond.Costello_Anasazi wrote...
The worst was the blood mage house in the capital. I don't think this was the hardest fight but it was one of the most annoying cause of the traps and archers and mages all making it very likely I would lose someone.
Other than that it seems to have a degree of luck some battles are tough one play through and then easy the next.
Now, it probably didn't help that I went into this encounter below level 10 the first time, but it left a bad taste in my mouth since so much of what made the encounter hard was artificial. (Warning: TVTropes link. Do not click unless you have a strong will or can afford to lose an hour or so.)

I initially thought you had to fight it to get past it. Well, It made me quit, I was a low lvl bowman(12). He killed us, Morrigan didn't have a heal and I was noob. It made me quit. i.i
As a more experienced player, on nightmare, I had trouble with the Corrupted Spider Queen. She was a butthead.

Nope fight Gax guy he's solo probably hardest guy in the game.
That dude pissed me off. I'm a level 14 mage with Blizzard and Tempest and I have Spirit Healer and Arcane Warrior. Alistair, Wynn, Liliana(I replaced with Shale after the 2nd try) were in my party and I got my ass handed to me 4 times. I decided to just give it a rest and come back later. He better be worth the time. The Broodmother wasn't that hard and neither was the Forgemaster(though I didn't side with Branka, I hade Shale and Oghren in my party)
