Do you think DA games have a higher percentage of female gamers than most other games?

God, yes. Mine too. I've played through the game, all the way, maybe three times now. She's done it literally DOZENS of times, over and over, back to back. BUT, she says she loves the Mark of the Assassin DLC more than any other aspect of the game, and now plays it multiple times with the same PC, just to bring different companions with her.

There have been a lot of 'No.' posts from you recently.  I'm wondering, since this isn't a poll, how it contributes to the discussion and how you have come to this interesting conclusion.

It is a response to a "Do you think" question. I answered a question.

Mark of The Assassin.  Honestly the most fun I've had with a Bioware game since, well, Jade Empire for that matter.  Well written, exciting expansion with multiple paths, great characters, interesting story, different locations, fun battles, *awesome* companion banter.  Only downside was the lack of final choice about the list of names.

Er, aside from the fact that the entire implication of your suggestion here is that women generally prefer games that are "simple and easy to pick up and play" which has loads of gender assumptions.

It would be nice to see people actually ASKING us women what we like to do and why we like to do it, rather than all these "I'm pretty sure/I think/I suspect" posts that are based more on cultural assumptions about gender than anything else.

Asking a handful of women what their tastes are on a Bioware board would get me pretty slanted data, eh?

But if you want proof....

Yes. Just look at the Anders and Fenris threads. Every youtube video i look at that is related to DA2 always has the top comments referencing how sad it was to "leave" Fenris and Anders.

Your links show that more women than men play mobile apps.  IOW, where mobile apps are concerned, a majority of the players are women.

It doesn't say what other games women do or do not play, and it does not mean that most women play mobile apps.  I'd be pretty careful about drawing any conclusions from that.

Personally, I've never played a mobile app, and don't do facebook.

I have a PS3 and gaming PC, and mostly play RPG and RTS games.

I'm not sure about that, my sis loves Tekken 2-6 and the God of War series, and with my cousin it's Halo, & Street Fighter. From what i know they are not avid gamers.

id say with the older group of women it clearly is the companion/relationship aspect of Bioware games, its the thing that sets them apart from alot of the competitors.

I don't hang out on a lot of other gaming forums, so I can't speak to the number of women here, but it never struck me as being disproportionately large. It's impossible to tell, what with avatars and such, but I thought the gender split seemed pretty even.

I've known a few girsl that played videogames, they mostly liked JRPGs, but so do I. I had one friend who was way into WoW, it got to the point that that was basically all she talked about. It got really annoying, in fact.

I got my mother to start playing videogames with me back when I was about... 15, I think? (Shut up, I didn't have many friends).

I picked up some two-player co-op fantasy games for the PS2 (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2, Champions of ... Norrath? Something like that).  We would play together after she got home from work, and we played them over and over again because, even by that stage, co-op gaming options were limited.  MMOs didn't apeal to her, and I tried to get her to try other co-op games like X-Men Legends and Gauntlet, but she didn't like them. She likes games that allow you to cusomise the character's appearance, and also have an involved economy. She played Oblivion, and she even went out and pre-ordered Skyrim of her own volition, but she stopped playing them both after a while because it's such a lonely experience, and that's the same problem I have with them too.

Since the current generation of games pretty much only offers co-op through online play, we just haven't been able to play together at all. I did get her into Pokemon, and generally when the next gen comes out, I buy both versions and give her one.  I tried to get her into Dragon Age, but she just wasn't interested. Mostly now she plays the various ________villes on Facebook. Sometimes she watches me play other games because she likes to know the story.

The topic is asking if Bioware games have a higher percentage of female gamers. I say no, that mobile games have the highest percentage of female gamers. Yes, of course there's exceptions to every rule, yourself included.

I avoid mobile games.  Im not interested in playing games that look like they're from 1995.  I dont have Facebook. I tried Dragon Age Legends but it bored me.

I play games on a PC, Wii or xBox.

I have no idea if/why Dragon Age is played more by female gamers than males.
I like to think gender as nothing to do with it, and that it just people enjoying a little escapism.

I'm a woman and I play more BioWare games than any other. Things I like in a game include:

-Compelling well written story
-Deep and interesting characters
-Romance
-Role playing: dialogue choices, stat based persuasion, reactions to your race or class etc...
-Being able to choose my gender and race, sexual orientation, etc...
-Not being able to experience everything in one playthrough. It's rare for me to not finish a game, I'd have to really dislike it. If I like a game I will do MANY playthroughs.
-An interesting world/lore
-Many interesting side characters to interact with
-The longer the game the better!
-A good character creator and being able to customize my appearance (also nice looking clothes/armor to wear)
-Exploration and finding hidden quests, treasures, etc...
-Good sidequests
-Puzzles or mysteries that test my brainpower, reasoning, and deduction

What I DON'T like:
-Limited dialogue choices or no choice at all
-A game that is all about combat with very little story
-A game that is "streamlined" aka dumbed down for a casual player that's to stupid to do anything other than mash "A" in battle and follow a glowing trail or icon to get to where they're supposed to go.
-JRPGs and things influenced by JRPGs (DA2 elves and overall look, ME3 ending and catalyst/reaper purpose & logic)
-A shallow plot that assumes the player is stupid and won't know the difference
-Pointless time-wasting casual games such as angry birds and other cell phone games

What I don't care about:
-Battles. The battle system could be anything, I don't care. I will suffer through crappy combat to get to the story, exploration, puzzles, and rp that I like. Though a battle system that I like (100% action like Skyrim/Fallout) is a bonus, it's not a deciding factor at all.
-Graphics: Good graphics are again, a bonus but they're not a deciding factor. I would much rather play KotOR than ME3 for example.
-Political corectness, "overly sexualized" women, etc..I really don't care. If guys want to have their fanservice in a game it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I wear scandalous clothes sometimes as well, it doesn't make me supid or lesser or whatever else outcriers like to say.

Please don't post something like this without the hard data to back it up.  It's meaningless otherwise.

It's sarcasm.  He's invoking the "80/20" rule, aka the Pareto Principle.  Pretty much any time you hear ANYONE refer to the numbers 80 and 20, those numbers are guaranteed to be made up.

Having done this many times before adding statistics just adds to my workload.

Those are the actual the numbers  give or take. When you start to go into "fluff" games like apps then the numbers come out to around 50/50.

The poll is currently on 42% female, 58% male. Pretty darn good gender ratio compared to most AAA titles out there, I'd believe =)

38% to 62% now. It's such a small sample size it's going to jump about like that.
