If you make respecs completely unlimited, then Promoting becomes even more worthless than it already is.

They're not gonna remove Promoting either, so you either make it beyond worthless or Bioware will take desperate measures and start handing out credits for doing so or.... something. There has to be some reason to promote and not-using a respec card is one reason.

Besides, they want you to buy the respec's remember?

But why do we care about promoting?! What is the ultimate purpose of promotion? Really that's one of the few reasons I'd ever promote. I'm sitting on an N7 of 420- but if I promoted diligently I'd be at a couple thousand by now. But I feel zero reason to play the N7 game.

Respec's should be free in SP, MP, and MMO's. Placing limits on it doesn't do anything to help balance or prevent exploits. It just creates a barrier of frustration to players. If someone wants to respec after every match it does affect anything.

every MMO WOULD like to have a word with you that has pvp in it like i dont know wow,dnd Respec cards a way to curb the intentionally going out and  going one spec finding out you dont like it because of said talent you didnt like because you made guess that you thought would help..

 learn to use a spec to best of ability{even wow and dnd have resec cost that went up} when i was playing wow i had 50 gold{ thru out vania thru cata} because i had to keep trying to get the right build till i couldnt pay for it before they lowered the cost{being a mage in wow  and that ;loved to pvp and raid you needed to spec for one thing and another{ till they gave us the double spec option that we could change on the fly but still would cost gold if we messed up so just imagine how it was in wow if you loved pvp and had to respec every week to raid and pvp}

As a player I would enjoy having respec without limitation (either no limit for cards or no card required.)

However, it's incredibly unlikely to happen because of the value of limiting respecs from a developer standpoint -
1) without a limit on respecs, there's no reason to be careful about setting up your powers as you level up - if you don't like a build you can just respec until you have one you like
2) putting respec in a card form means that it has a value attached to the ability to do so
2a) limiting the number of respec cards means that once you reach the limit they won't keep piling up, adding to the frustration when you're trying to get something else in particular
3) Respec cards offer a potential source of income to Bioware/EA - if you don't have the respec cards you want, and you don't have credits, you might decide to spend money/bioware points/msp on trying to get one.

Regarding that last point, Bioware does make it easy enough to get respec cards that you'll pretty much never need to use microtransactions to get them- even without a respec card or any credits, you can achieve a very similar effect by promoting your character once it hits level 20.

tl;dr - respec ability is easy enough to get currently that it doesn't require a tweak. Bioware/EA won't make a non-required tweak to them due to financial incentives.

Really?

The ultimate purpose of promotion is to gain war assets for your single-player game. That it raises your N7 rank is an extra provided for people who care about multiplayer leaderboards.

If you don't feel a need to have more war assets in single-player, and you don't care about the N7 rank number, then the only reason you might promote is to reset your power distribution for all kits of a given class.

If you don't need/want more War Assets in singleplayer, don't care about your N7 Rank number, and don't want to reset the powers of all kits for a given class (or reset the level so you can enjoy the experience of leveling up again), then you are not a part of the target audience for the Promotion ability and should not use it. Respec cards are there for you to use if you want to respec one specific kit at any level.

Me, I enjoy the process of leveling up, and I want to find out what the ceiling value for War Assets is, so I promote all the time. (I just always leave one class at 20 so I can bring something to Gold/Plat matches if a friend pulls me in to one, and promote that once I have another class at 20.)

It takes what, a handful of matches to get back near level 20? Not that big of a deal IMO

I don't see why not. Not like you get some sort of advantage.

We should be able to purchase a respec whenever we want for like 5000 credits. Promoting gets annoying because every kit in the class gets set to level 1. Even single kit promotion would be better than the current system.

Well, I asked that question in earnest. And no sarcasm here, I totally forgot about the N7 promoting and how it ties into your SP game War Assets! I forgot because I tend to focus either on mulitplayer or go through a streak of completing a SP playthrough. Just an airhead moment ^_^
Thanks for answering!

Promoting is pointless.

Respec cards are REALLY HARD to get when you NEED one.

Replace respec cards with a 5000 credit button to buy a respec in the character screen.

I want this! I love experimenting with builds, but I hate going back to level 1! I'm lazy! And 3 as max re-spec cards feel very low... At least make it 6! Or 20!

I support a paid (with in-game credits and even with a monetary price attached) respec option.

Signed, also because when you use a Re-spec card its 99% guaranteed that you will get one in your next pack's uncommon/rare slot

If I can make a quick analogy, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier went this same way a couple of months ago, and it improved the multiplayer drastically, so I see no reason this should not be implemented here.

Although having to pay a small fee would make more sense to me or an unlimited amount of cards.

Make it common and make them replace these common character cards instead of these precious rare items I would say.

Not that I need more of them but the way they are I don't like to use them because they actually reduce the chances of getting good items if I don't keep 3 of them.

Maybe they could include a respec card in jumping equipment packs? 5 of each consumable and a respec card then the rest is just random gear.

I would like to throw my 2 cents into this topic.
Why not just allow people to buy a respec for 5-10k creds.

might as well make it unlimited. Any time I use one I get another. I am usually always at the 3 respec cap.
