I enjoyed both "The Stolen Throne" and "The Calling", but haven't gotten around to reading the newest novel. Is it a good read?
No spoilers obviously. Thanks in advance.
Should I buy Asunder?

I enjoyed it, and I think it has a lot of hints about the future of the series. All but certain, in fact.

Yeah, I'd buy it again if I lost my copy, it is my favorite of the novels so far.

You absolutely should.
It's David's best so far. I sometimes struggled in The Stolen Throne and The Calling (I feel he tended to linger a bit overmuch, his chapters occasionally seeming to run overlong), but I had no such problem reading all the way through Asunder.
Some of his best character work, and a very special lady shows up as well.

If you liked the first two books, definitely! His writing style and pacing have improved quite a bit, in my opinion, and we also get to see a few of the characters in Dragon Age: Origins again.

Written by the same guy as the first two. I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy it if you enjoyed the othersJamie9 wrote...

One thing to keep in mind is that this is the first non-game media that takes place after our own game saves. However, nothing is mentioned in Asunder regarding the ruler of Ferelden, anything about your Warden personally, anything about your Hawke, or really anything pertaining to any major choice you might have made in any part of either game.
Wynne, Shale, and Leliana all have minor roles in it (no, I don't consider this a spoiler as it was widely known that Wynne and Shale were going to be in it long before release), so if this bothers you as you killed them, never recruited them in DAO, or something along those lines, then you might not want to read it. I've read comments from people suggesting that the inclusion of these characters basically ruined the book for them, which is why I even mention it at all.
Like with Stolen Throne and Calling, I'm hoping that there will be minor things from Asunder in the next game, but only so far as to enrich the play experience for those who read it, while not having the reading be a requirement to follow the story.
Enjoy!

It's a decent read. Good pacing, likeable cast.
I should note that Wynne plays more than a minor role; her inclusion arguably drives the whole plot.

I'd definitely get it. It's a great read, and seems like it'll provide a bit of backstory for DA3.

If you do, I would caution against watching Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker. There's some conflicting backstory there about who the seekers are, and what they actually do.

i wouldn't say it's the best book in the series, but it's good. i enjoyed it.
i really liked reading a bit about orlais and getting to know a bit of the lifestyle there. it was nice to see it from the inside rather than everyone seeing orlesians in ferelden or kirkwall. although, i like to read with accents in my head so it was sorta tough to keep the french accent going for the duration of the book. XD fyi... if you do the same, the head seeker in the book isn't actually from orlais so don't stress yourself over doing that for him. i found out way too late when reading.

Fifteenthed! I thought it was a pretty good read. I liked The Calling and The Stolen Throne better. Of course, I also read the first two after playing DA:O so I had some perspective on how the books fit into the full narrative and was interesting in learning those back stories. Asunder does continue some themes from DA2, and I think gives more insight into the Mage/Templar conflict that DA2 did. And I think going into DA3 we'll see where Asunder fits in the context of the DA universe.

Absolutely! I thought it was fantastic. Great pacing and well written characters. It also gives some pretty important information about Wynne and another character that I think pretty much every person loved in Origins. Also it does a great job of further building on the templar/mage conflict.

It was a nice easy read - the first book set in the DA universe I'd picked up actually. It was a little slow to pick up but the second half more than made up for it. It also gives a little insight to one of the major companions which was welcome.

A friend of mine has recommended it to me, and I'm planning on placing an order on Amazon within the month.
If you want to read it but are unsure, just know that it can't be possibly be worse than the latest ME novel. So it's a win-win situation.

This thread has been interesting to me. I think David Gaider should take some solace in knowing that although we bashed (and continue to bash) Dragon Age II time and again, as a community, we seem to be happy with his writing and the world he has created.
Take heart, Mr. Gaider. All is not lost.

I think it's a good book. Gaider is refining his writing skills as an author, so things seem to flow much better than the other two books, which I also enjoyed.

I would agree with the earlier comments that Asunder is David's best work as a novelist.
