Personally prefer Gladiator to LotR movies, but no one can deny that the cut scenes in this game are blatant copies of the LotR movies.

First you say it's bordering copyright... then it evolves to blatant copies... dude... you're posting this in the wrong place!

Try it here and see if anyone takes you seriously!

http://www.tolkien-ent.com

That's official Tolkien Enterprises, division of Saul Zaentz co., owner of the rights of everything LOTR! good luck!

This discussion reminds me very much of a debate I read in the official WoW forums some years back. Some guy thought WoW was a rip-off of Everquest because they had griffons. Well... did anyone mention Greek mythology?

I'm the first one to admit that DA:O is heavily inspired by LotR, but I don't necessarily think that's bad. Fantasy is a genre that relies very heavily on a limited set of conventions, and epic battles and the fight between evil vs good represented by abominations vs humanoids are more or less obligatory. DA:O also borrows heavily from the Arthurian legend, as well as from a number of other great fantasy stories.

But if the OP seriously believes that some of the cutscenes could have been directly transferred from LotR after some obvious visual changes, I suggest he watches the movies again.

Fistandantilus was in fact Paladine, Raistlin was a red mage whose lust for power led him down the black mage path and eventually to an attempt to overthrow Takhisis herself.

Hardly the scenario you describe.

Where did you get that Fistandantilus was Paladine? If anything, Fistandantilus and Raistlin became one after the battle.

The scenario I meant was the whole "I'm a powerful mage who is getting old so I need a younger body to transfer my essence to so I can continue to live"which is the same as Flemeth and MOrrigan.

There is a little thing called cinematic convention.

Some camera angles simply work better for some scenes. LOTR didn't copyright them, but LOTR used them in a setting that is somewhat similar, so that's why they look familiar. But hteir usage is no copy-cating. That's just stupid.

Very derivative troll post. Nothing innovative or original. 2/10.

Yes this game had some elements that reminded me of LoTR. It also reminded me of Dragonlance (Fistandantilis (Flemeth) preparing Raistlin (Morrigan) as a new young host to inhabit when his (her) current body gets old but Raistlin (Morrigan) ends up turning the tables on him (her)).

But you know what? This game still rules.

what?

did you ever read Dragonlance....  really?

Fistandantilus was in fact Paladine, Raistlin was a red mage whose lust for power led him down the black mage path and eventually to an attempt to overthrow Takhisis herself.

Hardly the scenario you describe.

I think you're getting your Wizards starting with the letter F mixed up...

(I made the same mistake when I originally read them)

Most western fantasy RPGs steal many elements from LOTR with dwarves, elves, magic, etc. It's a familiar setting even if it isn't entirely original. The only RPG off the top my head which doesn't borrow Tolkein elements is probably Morrowind, which had characters and architecture unlike what we normally see

Agreed. The setting there was fantastic.

Pity about Oblivion. I'm amazed Jackson didn't sue given the opening "fly by the tower" scene & music, it looked like it was ripped wholesale from LOTR, as well as the appearance of the gates themselves.

The OP admitted to be only trolling. I see no point to this thread.
