I ALWAYS use my best consumables with randoms because of the fact that I may have to carry or solo a round or two. When I'm playing with friends though, I don't always go maxed out because I can rely on teamwork to get the job done instead.

Of course I'm also picky about lobbies. If somebody wasn't using any equipment, I would definitely find another one to join. I wouldn't say anything snide though; that would be lame.

What bothers me (a bit) is players that don't even put something in the permanent gear slot (which does not get consumed).

At this point in time, I think that most people have something they can use even if it is a level 1 item.

Of course I could be erroneous and some people may not have anything relevant to use but in that case they are probably low level (i.e. new players) that might not fair well in Platinum.

Understandable.  But at the same time, the same thing can happen in reverse.  You can have someone walk into the lobby with best weapons, gear, and consumables....only to find out they are terrible players who do not know how to handle the character or the match and is making really dumb mistakes.

That is true, but at least the fully set up terrible players used equipment, so they put in the same "stake" as you in the match.

I tried Platinum with 2 friends and a random (we did not have a 4th player ready at that time). All three of us were fully decked out in equipment and the random had none. We made it to wave 9, only because my friend and I carried the match. I did not even mind, nor care that the 2nd friend wasn't doing well at all (Pull on a Banshee?? Whut?). But it did bother that the random did the worst and had put no equipment "at stake". If the random had put equipment, I honestly would be less bitter about it. Next time, I'll know to at least try to kick.

If you really are on a hurry and can only afford one platinum game time-wise, then i understand you, you use your best gear and so others should too, because you want max chance to complete this one game you have the time for. But if you're in no hurry, well, why don't you try it without consumables as well ? that way it doesn't cost a thing. 
And the point of my thread (aside from venting my anger toward the simple rudeness of that guy), is that you never know who you are playing with. I've been in gold games with high ranked N7 players, loaded with class 3 to 5 consumables and gear, high-end weapons and by wave 7 or 8 it was revive fest until we died. And on my first plat game, only one of us used full gear (yes he scored first, i scored close second), i only used my one additional grenade, and other 2 similarly didn't use consumables. And we got to wave 10, even though the fourth player was clearly Silver material. And second game, because first was so fun, we kept together, we didn't kick the semi-rookie, and everyone geared up with what best things he had. Well we went to wave 10 again, and had much fun together.
So what if i used my gear every time ?   I could live that situation you discribe (wiping in early wave) even with players loaded with consumables, just bad players with them. And in two days, i'd be out of consumables.
And then you won't play with me.
So, you really turn down any potential good player just because he ran out of consumables ?

i like your way of thinking (ie taking your best gear to better help others). I think i would do that too IF i had consumables in large numbers enough (i really don't have many, except for those i don't use of course, you can check my manifest).
Using them every time by default they would just last 2 days.
And then all players refusing to play with players without consumables would kick me or quit my lobby anyway ?

Part of being a good player IS using consumables. So if I see someone not using them, I assume 1) they're stingy/selfish and use all their credits for PSPs, 2) they plan to missile glitch, or 3) they're not experienced. There's really no excuse to run out of consumables with a JEP being 33k.

Any 'good' player is not going to run out of consummables.  And how on gods green earth do I know you are a good player.  For every good player with no upgrades out there there are two or three who are not good.  This is a non issue if you are a great player with great equipment and can carry people but for the medium player who has to have things go well at the higher levels and have good squadmates I'm not sure why you expect them to risk tossing a game in the dumpster just to figure out if you are good or not.

If you play a game or two and the team rocks then you don't have to use consummables and upgrades, 1st game however I would expect people to use them.

I do not wish for you to know that I am  a short step away from being a leecher, so I will instead flex my superiority complex, which is a defense mechanism developed from years of my father shaking my head at me whenever I tried to catch a ball."

Agreed.  When I see people in gold and plat lobbies without equipment, it doesn't do much to disuade me from thinking they're so unconfident about their playing abilities that they don't want to waste any consumables.  But for me, the people who don't use any consumables in gold and plat lobbies are usually the ones who aren't adequately equipped weapon-wise for plat and gold anyway..

I don't care about score but I was doing a gold speed run with 3 others. 2 of us had the drelldept and one guy asked us to chnage becuase he wanted to "make sure we won and the drelldept sucks" us 2 drelldepts destroyed eveyrrthing coming in 1st and 2nd by far of him and teh 4th guy. I would never kick, i always give people the benefit of the doubt. with the new platinum mode I usually do this now

bronze - don't play
Silver - no equipment
Gold low level equipment (1 and 2 bonus's only)
Platinum - high level equipment (3 + 4 only)

also always have at leave 5 gel, ops, and missiles going into a gold or high macth just in case. and use them. don't bleed out eevry wave

all of that is common curtesy.

also with that said the widow is a poot choice for gold. sure its still effective but when you playing on higher levels people expect better weapons to be used. a BW or valiant is superior to the widow. 1 shot sniper rifles aren't a good fit for gold and platinum.

Also (not that points matter) but coming in 2nd could mean alot. if the top guy had 150k and you 40k and the other 2 guys 30k each then coming in second didn't mean much, if top guy had 100k you had 95 and the other 2 had 90 then that was good teamwork and again coming in second wans't much. could have been 1 cobra missle difference from last to 1st

I've had matchmaking put me in a platinum lobby or drop me into a gold game when I've selected a 'bronze' match in my search. I don't tend to do anything above bronze deliberately until a character is level 16 or so.

Its the matchmaking I think as much as anything else.

drell adept totally rules! with fully upgraded cluster grenades and constant biotic explosions, i've been able to get kill streaks and outscore everyone else in most games. and yes, he ( along with vanguards and krogan) does work great in cqc.

Nah the MP Match Maker is acting weird ....again. Thought they fixed it. 
Choose Bronze and it'll throw you into a Gold match, Choose Silver ditto, though haven't been thrown into Platinum by mistake yet.

Still, it is VERY irritating when you want to play a lower difficulty settting to test out / familarise yourself with a new class before bringing it in for more "serious" arse whooping in the higher difficulties  only to get thrown into a game in progress and there you are, naked mods / consumeable wise and fighting for your life in gold out in the open.

BIoware really need to fix this sh.it.

Personally I don't care about that silly "kill score" since it means as much as the N7 rank. 
While someone who just camps AFK and leech during a match sucks, as long as your team mates do thier part and shoot at the enemy I don't care if he's first or bottom.

In my case, If I see a Drelldept "army" I'd break out the Demolisher and play support. Have done so, and usually am last in kill score but who cares, we won, we get credits and everyone lives. That's what counts.
Besides, Drelldepts are better known as the "BAD-DOOM!" class. 
Supply them with 'nades
Sit back.
PROFIT!

If they'd wiped in the first three rounds, sure. They made it to wave 10, though. Close may only technically count in horseshoes and hand grenades but these guys still gave a good, nearly successful go of it.

For real.  I can almost excuse it on Gold, but Platinum is too hard for anyone but the elite to do without any consumables on at all.  At least put some level 1's on so I know you care.

Why I may not be ****** like that guy was, but a Widow is a bad weapon for platinum imo. You need to use something that packs a punch but at the same time has a decent sized clip. If you were the last one left and made the wrong turn, you'd be destroyed using that weapon.

I give everyone a try though, unless you have the striker equipped or you have an awful character / weapon / gear / consumables combination.
