I'm getting a repeatable crash with the Rio map that is included with the multiplayer expansion, "Earth"

It's almost immediately after entering the map - I'd say it's been happening around 45 seconds, give or take. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

The screen freezes, and then I get the "This program has stopped responding" dialog. It never comes back, and I have to select "Close this program" and restart the program. At this point, I've never come close to finishing Rio, because it always crashes.

Not seeing this on any other map in the expansion - just Rio. Doesn't matter which character I bring in with me.

Intel i7-960 - 24 gigabytes of RAM - 2 X nVidia 560 GTX using the Mass Effect 3 graphics profile.

I have the same issue. I tried repairing the installation, but for some reason it starts downloading the full game.

AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE
AMD Radeon HD 6870 (Catalyst 12.4)
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

UPDATE

This thread has some answers. The crash occurs if an N7 slayer or krogan vanguard uses a heavy melee in a specific area. The host and the player performing the heavy melee are fine, the other two players will get a crash. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/343/index/13200080

You know, the symptoms of the crash sound about right because I've played on Rio flawlessly at least two or three other times after I crashed the first time.  I haven't really kept track of what the other classes were involved on that map but from what I can attempt to remember, I think I played with a Shadow and maybe a Destroyer those times I didn't crash.

This fu**** annoying. Reached the 10 round than crash. And i wasted 20 minutes and some consumables for nothing... Happened to me now the 2nd time today. I'm not starting Mass Effect 3 until the next weekend event, this killed my mood completely ...

Had it crash three times, but for me, the game "insta-closes" with no program dialog boxes. On the other hand, have made it through Rio several times with no problem. One Rio crash was lvl10 on silver, not too happy about that one.

Edit:  Now up to 5 on Rio, but also one on Jade.

Edit:  As of last night, now 6 on Rio.  Most (but not all) have been on the walkway on the left, as you face the conex supply boxes.

Edit:  As of a new last night, now 7 on Rio.  This one set a record, the crash occurred between 5 and 10 seconds of joining the match, just as I rounded the corner from the center position, going down the left ramp as you face the storage boxes.

Yesterday I had three crashes with a geth engineer on Rio - first immediately, second at wave 3 and the third at wave 10.
And I had a full game with shadow infiltrator.
All silver.

First playthrough on Rio on silver: my Xbox freezes completely around Wave 5 while I was just walking down a ramp.
After HARD-RESETTING my Xbox and rejoining (and losing my equipment and credits of course) I could end the Game without further freezes.

A friend played Rio on Gold: her Xbox froze completely.

Another friend insisted on playing Rio again. This time I was the host, so I agreed. On Wave 4 again her Xbox froze and the Xbox of another squadmate as well. Both at the exact same second! Both had to HARD-RESET and restart the game to be able to rejoin. We finished without further crashes.

For me that is personally two playthroughs with two freezes happening on that map.

My squadmates were playing from their usual places in Netherlands,
Germany, France and Spain. We are a group of experienced players, usually playing successful Gold matches. We all have good and stable Internet-Connections. Other maps worked fine before (except one freeze on Dagger, but only one out of hundreds of playthroughs) and after the
Rio-crashes, so it has to be the map!

I am wondering: HOW COULD THE QA-Department overlook that bug???

How can you release such a badly designed map??? We can't play RANDOM map anymore, because we are all afraid of losing our equipment, credits and experience again should Rio show up.

Being a software publisher myself, I bought a few PSPs using Microsoft points to pay Bioware back for offering a free DLC (as I did with the last two DLCs). But now I am REALLY disappointed.

Instead of fixing the well-known old bugs (e.g. the vanguard glitch) things get worse and worse with each DLC.

Get your act together Bioware (or should I say EA?), before people stop playing ME3 because of all the glitches and problems.

Funny that you mention the Vanguard still being broken - because I ended up with an N7 Slayer floating a few hundred feet in the air yesterday. I still can't believe that has been broken this long. That one has been known from the release of ME3 MP.

Thought I finally beat the curse - made it to Wave 9, then Rio crashed me out again (sigh). It sooks to do, but if I randomly end up in Rio, I just quit the game. It'd be nice if they'd just offline the map.

Well, I would like to quit Rio too, if it showed up in the UNKNOWN MAP rotation. But on Gold I use to play with all 4 Equipment slots filled up. So I don't want to waste my Level IV Incendiary Ammo for example, just because I ended up on Rio. Right now, my friends and I stopped using the setting MAP UNKNOWN until Rio is fixed (2013?)...

And unfortunately I don't consider the Vanguard Glitch funny anymore. Glitching out on Wave 3 or 4 has ruined so many games for my teammates or me, that it stopped being funny. And it seems that with the new DLC they introduced a new Vanguard glitch, where after a successful biotic charge your shields are NOT refilled again. So you were low on shields, decided to charge the Atlast although he still has plenty of health left and finally end up standing in front of that Atlas without any refilled shields. One shot from him or one of the minor enemies around him and you are dead. Right now with the vanguard you can't rely on anything anymore. And that used to be my favorite class. :(

"Funny that you mention the..." isa figure of speech. Obviously I don't find it funny, either, as the Vanguard bug tends to get me in later rounds - which completely ruins the whole match for me.

Another hard crash of Mass Effect 3 on the Rio map  last night. I've started leaving games immediately when I see it's Rio on an "unknown" dice roll.

An interesting observation - I had equipment in all four consumable slots when I was put into a Rio map. I immediately left the map, without it getting into the first wave. Didn't fire my gun or activate any powers.

It let me keep all the consumables.

I don't know if the works with all the one-shot equipment or not, but it at least appears to give me an option to avoid Rio without having to specify my map specifically. It's not ideal by any stretch. I hate bailing out, but Rio hard crashes the game 90% of the time for me. It's extremely frustrating to get to level 8 or higher, and suddenly find myself staring at error dialog.

It happens to me too, but I have Phenom II + AMD gpu.

That map is a buggy mess, even if it doesn't crash I only get around 40 fps, stasis'd enemies just clip through the floor and fall to the bottom of the map, sometimes it is not the enemies but me...

I stopped playing U/U/G because of Rio.

Up to this point, have merely updated my original post, but that doesn't "score," so will now "quote" myself when I get new crashes unique to my ME3 experience since the Earth DLC.

Just adding my voice to this.

I get regular CTDs when I try to play Firebase Rio.

+1 for me. Have seen or experienced this 'issue' multiple times. Not sure what other players were playing at the time so it might have been vanguards/krogans. Then again, I've played that map multiple times without any issue. If only it wasn't as buggy it would be one of the 'better' maps.

While I have not crashed a lot on this map, I have experienced a greater number of crashes on this map than any other. Nothing reproducible unfortunately, I'll be running along and suddenly be at my desktop, no error popups or anything.

I have had multiple crashes on this map. But it started a couple of weeks after release. Initially it was fine. For me, it doesn't seem to be class, location, player or enemy specific... I've crashed out by myself, had other players come unstuck, and in one instance, all 4 of us ended up on the desktop. Over the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've only had 2 Rio games run smoothly. Which is such a pity, I rather like it. Really hope Bioware takes our issues seriously and solves the problem soon.

A thread quoted elsewhere above talks to the vanguard issue, but played several matches last night, both as vanguard and with vanguards, on Rio, both as host and as client and no crashes.  I have experienced many CTD on Rio, but also on Jade.  None of the vanguards last night were shy about biotic charge, slash or shadow strike, so not so sure it is (always) caused by vanguards.

My game crashed on Rio at least four times before I started to avoid it completely (this was in the week following the release of the Earth DLC). I would still occasionally find myself in a Rio randomly, and for awhile it crashed pretty reliably. However, for the last couple of weeks I have been able to play Rio without any problems--until today. I was playing as a level 15 Human Soldier with two friends, a level 1 Salarian Engineer and a level 16-ish Krogan Vanguard, on a silver match against Geth. My game first crashed at the beginning of wave 2. I started the game back up and rejoined as quickly as possible. My friends, in the meantime, said that I crashed at the same time as someone else (a random player), and that they had at least half a dozen players join and crash after I left but before I had rejoined. It was the end of wave 3 when I made it back in, and my game crashed within 30 seconds, after just killing a handful of Geth in wave 4. I was frustrated as hell, but I wanted to try again. I got back in at the end of wave 6. Once again, I helped to end the wave and proceeded to kill about half a dozen Geth from wave 7 before I crashed for the third time... not just on a single map, but on a single match!

I really don't know what's wrong, but I'm starting to no longer care. I have never endured this level of buggy-ness from a game. Between these crashes and the countless problems I've had with Origin, I estimate that I lose about 20% of my game time to these problems, with nothing to show for it but a nasty headache. I know you BioWare guys can't do a damn thing about Origin or server connectivity issues, but for the love of god please fix Rio!
