OP had a really cool idea about consumables lasting if you extract, you could put a limit on it to such as 3 times is the most you could use it.

The game itself seems to be telling us that extraction isn't needed, seeing that the message "Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum Challenge" with experience added comes up before the game is actually over (extraction).
