Landsmeet bug (Undefeatable Loghain)

Loghain tried to arrest me and I handily whooped his ass (i.e. reduce his health to zero) and yet the fight doesn't end. As an Arcane Warrior, I can keep buffs up, go have a cup of coffee and the fight will still continue with Loghain's health at zero. He will take 0 damage from my attacks at that point.
I understand from the wikis that the nobles are suppose to propose a duel when his health is zero... It's not happening.
Any help will be appreciated. :{ 103hrs into the game at a leisurely pace only to encounter this bug.

I have the patched PC version of the game if that is important.

I had no problem with a previous playthrough, so this is extra frustrating.

I've just encountered this bug - I've tried the zz_den_debug script as mentioned above, and no matter which options I choose I'm getting a duel with Loghain in which he cannot be defeated. No spell, or knockdown move makes any difference.

Do you have any mods installed?

Removing the mods hasn't made any difference, unfortunately. At the moment, my hubby (who posted the message you quoted) has gone back to a saved game during the Unrest in the Alienage quest, just in case the bug can be avoided by going back a little earlier.
I'm hoping that the only solution isn't to restart the entire game, or to go back to the first time Denerim is entered in case that is the point where the bug is randomly triggered. This is quite an alarming bug!

I did have some, and the first thing I tried was to remove them completely. (They had all been installed into the core/override folder, and that is now empty). The game has been completed twice with the mods installed, however.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Some mods appear to affect saved game files, so even if they're removed, their influence lingers. That said, reverting to an older saved game is usually an option.
I don't think this bug is triggered by entering Denerim (or at least I haven't seen any evidence to that effect), but I think going back to before the Landsmeet triggers is a wise move.
Let us know if it works. If it does, I'll update the Solutions Roundup. If not, we can scratch our heads and try to troubleshoot more.

EDIT: Adding... I'm curious if you have (had) the "extra dog slot" mod installed? It seems to be a troublemaker.

What *didn't* work:
-- a saved game just after the second encounter with Ser Cauthrien
-- a saved game from Arl Eamon's estate, just prior to leaving for the Landsmeet
What did work:
-- loading a saved game from part-way through the Unrest in the Alienage quest. This was followed by a couple of minor quest mop-ups that took the character outside of Denerim, before returning to Arl Eamon's estate and then heading to the Landsmeet.
Thank you for your replies!
