Why is EDI so despised?

Although my account has only been around for a few days, I have observed these boards since April. In general, I'm seeing a lot of hate for EDI. She might be one of the most hated characters in the series. It puzzles me because I actually really like her, and a lot of times people say they hate her without clearly explaining why. I'm seeing a lot of the same arguments, such as sexbot and creepy relationship and so forth. I'm also hearing people complaining that she took a spot that a ME2 squadmate could have taken. Even so, I'm still puzzled by why there is so much hatred for this character.

One of the reasons I liked Legion so much is because he was one of the rare synthetics who wasn't trying to be human. He tried to understand organics, but didn't want to be one, as though there is something inherently special about being an organic.

Reasons I have heard to dislike her:
* Some think the Pinocchio and Pygmalion trope is overdone. She borrows too much from Data, and other pop-culture examples.
* Some think her relationship with Joker comes about too quickly.
* Some think her body is too sexy.
* Some prefer when there was still a sense of danger to EDI.

I'd guess because she's the Synthesis narrator. People seem to bash everything even remotely related to Synthesis these days.
That's not EDI, though...

There also exists the camp that refuses to allot any kind of intelligence to machines. I've seen them literally become Cerberus Promoters (Pro-Human) while experiencing EDI and Legion in ME2. Hilarious.
Those are a couple guesses.

This is the last reason I would ever entertain. People disliked what EDI was turned into months before the game's release, which is eons ago in terms of the EC.SergeantSnookie wrote...

But I can see how she might give Uncanny Valley heebie jeebies to some folks, especially when the sexualization factor comes into it.

Is it just Tricia Helfer then? I'm down with that.

Inferiority complex? EDI is superhuman. Some people are uncomfortable with that.

So is Legion, but everyone loves him

I do like her, a lot, but the sexbot part was completely unnecessary and more than a little childish.
It would have been far more interesting to show her humanization while still being part of the ship.

Not one guy I know, who prefers to compare Legion to, say, a laptop, in an attempt to de-humanize the machine. Some people are truly frightened by the concept of AI.Adugan wrote...

From what I can see, another large complaint is about how she took up a space for an ME2 squadmate. I can see why people who are attached to ME2 squadmates are angry, but why take the anger out on new squadmates? Did similar complaints show up when ME1 squadmates didn't show up for ME2? If people are always in this mindset, how can a series ever introduce new squadmates without pissing people off?

EDI was the main reason I chose Control.

It's fairly apparent Bioware wanted a biotic, a soldier and an engineer who were guaranteed to be alive...
If anything, blame "anyone can die" aspect of the suicide mission in ME2. That's what made things problematic...

Her presence also feels like it's a bone thrown to anybody who liked the ME2 cast. Rather than actually putting in the effort to bring back an ME2-exclusive character, they half-ass EDI into a squadmate.
And this is something that applies to the Geth as well as EDI. Rather than justifying that synthetic life was its own unique but equally legitimate form of like like ME2 did, ME3 constantly implied that synthetics' ultimate goal was to become more like organics, what with all that bullsh!t like the Geth wanting to be "true" intelligences and EDI wanting to act more like an organic.

I have yet to see well-established criticisms at her personality other than her being cliched. Is EDI poorly executed?

I get the complaints about her relationship with Joker it did seem a little sudden to me as well.
I really don't get the complaints about her trope being overdone. I don't even think her character is the worst one in those regards.
