But I dont think the ending was all that great. Bruce alive was pretty cool and no I dont believe he should have died. Its obvious that Robin will take up the mantle for alittle while and eventually the Dynamic Duo will come together.
And prob that little boy with the chalk writing Batman emblems everywhere might eventually "if the films continue" take up Robins mantle and the Robin we were introduced to eventually becomes Nightwing. I donno its just what rolled thru my thoughts when Robin was running around town in the film.
There is a scene in the DarkKnight Rises that did make me think about Shepard.
Story wise when Bruce was broken and left in that pit to die ~ there was alot of story there about Bruce having to let go. Even his anger and vengence could not get him out of that hell hole he was in.
But when he did emerge it wasnt Batman it was a incredibly strong willed survivor.
Shepard / Mindior is what I thought about during those scenes.
I kinda wish in a way that there was DLC or something where the game would let me go back and play content as Shepard before he met Anderson, Nilius and eventually become the hero we know him as today.
To experience the full story in game of Mindior and Shepard and up thru into when Shepard joins the Alliance. I think that would be so awesome.
Anyway back to topic about DarkKnight Rises film ~ the ending was good but not how Shepards ending should have been.
I think Shepards story if it were told and explained onto the bigscreen can be a story that is just as powerful and incredible if given the opportunity.

Considering the movie is along the lines of Nightfall, killing the Bat instead of breaking the Bat would be horrendous and I'd go batsh*t.
The Asimov short story?

Pretty much. That and I don't think DC would have let them kill Batman.

I'm don't know everything about superhero comics but... I thought the whole deal with Batman was that he IS mortal and CAN die? That he has NO super powers?
If they'd killed Bruce Wayne they weren't killing Batman, anyway. Because Batman is a symbol and 'anyone can be Batman' blah blah blah.

...but the burning question remains: who would you prefer save the galaxy? Batman or Cmdr Shepard? Put some kinetic shields on the BatSuit and I'd have to take Batman.

Really if Dark Knight Rising ended after Luciius was told the autopilot was fixed I would have been mad. Showing a happy Bruce with his new girlfriend, wife ect and Alfred smiling and nodding was the perfect end to this epic trilogy. Unlike the Mass Effect trilogy which will go down in history as how to not do a trilogy and are just good games, Nolans batman trilogy will join the ranks of epic trilogies that will inspire future writers/directors ect.
Also people clapped, cried, jumped in joy when they saw the ending to DKR, the same can not be said for ME3 where most peopel just sat there going O_o

I'm Batman! My acting is always horrible, no matter who plays me! My character is shallow and unentertaining, but my parents are dead, which must mean I'm interesting! I'm invulnerable because the plot says so! I spend most of my time brooding about how horrible life is in my big mansion with my butler! I have no personality whatsoever!
Please.
Give me Iron Man any day.

While the two (DKR and ME3) are two different stories with different themes and characteristics; both can show how and ending can determine the story.
Imagine, if you will, if Batman just ended after the horizon shot of the blast. That's kinda what ME3 ended like, the threat is gone, but what happened. The ending makes the journey worth while and re-enforces the lessons learned in it.

They actually could have pulled off a "dead hero" ending if they had ended the movie right before Lucius was told that the autopiolet had been fixed. I for one would have liked it much better than the ending to ME3, but the thing is they didn't and the movie is all the better for it. Come on ME3 ending I am really trying to like you, but the more I see what you could have been the harder it is.sporeian wrote...

True, they could have, but would it have been the same. Truimphance is much more satisfying than death. Sure, it may not be as dark or as edgy as a hero's death. However, a wise wise man once said, "Don't be afraid to show your audience a little bit of happiness at the end."

Exactly what I am trying to say, I would not have had a problem with the ending if it did not come from nowhere, and kill the hero for seemingly "****s and giggles".sporeian wrote...

The Dark Knight Rises is (in my opinion) EXACTLY like the Mass Effect 3 Destroy ending - which makes it so sweet.
They show Shepard breathing in the end - just like it was teased (before they actually show him) that Bruce Wayne might be alive.
It made me love the destroy ending of Mass Effect 3 even more - and I found the OP a bit ironic - to have BioWare take note - because from my perception - it is EXACTLY how they did it - and its awesome!

The first fight between Bane and Batman in the sewer system is how the fight on Thessia should have been, with Kai Leng utterly destroying Shepard.

I don't entirely agree (just somewhat). DKR made it stupidly clear that Bruce is alive at the end. It also ends the story showing the hero being happy. Bioware on the other hand keeps trying to introduce ambiguity (even though I think it's obvious Shep survives Destroy) by tweeting crap like "what if it's his/her last breath". They also don't end on a positive note like DKR does. Instead of ending with a resounding positive scene, it ends with "hope" (LI not placing the plack and seeing a breath in the rubble).
