Based on these two things, would I like the gameplay Dragon Age Origins?
Also, are the epic battles depicted in the trailers actually in the game as playable battles?
I'd appreciate any feedback.

I'm a MASSIVE fan of KOTOR I and II. I like the gameplay in Mass Effect.

Comparing this to those 3, I'd say the quality of the storytelling is what makes it on par (though I haven't played any non-bioware RPGs for quite some time, so I can't say how they would compare).
No aim and fire FPS contols here like Mass Effect though.

DA:O overall is the best game I've ever played, and I really like the thunderous shoot 'em up FPS games, too.
DA:O is a masterpiece RPG. If the following means anything to you, DA:O won Best RPG and Best PC Game of the Year, plus two music awards. That means the players themselves had a hand in the voting results.
Had DA:O not won any awards, it wouldn't change my opinion of and addiction to the game. It's tremendous, and the combat can be tremendously hard at first for some people (like me). But I enjoy playing DA:O nearly every day. This is my opinion: I like DA:O better than ME, which I haven't finished yet. If you like RPG gameplay, I don't think you can go wrong with DA:O.

The storylines are crafted with the same care, and because they have greater resources to work with (namely hardware) they can include so much more interaction that they were not able to with KoTOR.
I very much like the overall story arc, and also the many sidequests, particularly the party character quests.
I WISH I could have had the same amount of in depth interaction with Carth that I can have with the other romanceable NPCs in DA:O.

Combat is more difficult than in KotoR, which is good. The story is better than the botched KotorR 2, but not as good as in the original KotoR or Mass Effect. Immersion isn't as great as in Mass Effect either. But yeah, DA is a great game nevertheless.
I think the imerssion is about on par w/ ME.
The characters in this game are top notch. Better than Kotor or ME, if you ask me. I feel you get to know your companions much better than in any previous bioware game.
The combat is different from Kotor and ME, though. It's closer to Kotor, but unlike Kotor, it doesn't have a command queue and there's an party AI interface for you to tweak party member behaviors.
