Tales of Amn

The year is 1373 DR...

Amn is amongst the youngest nations of Faerun, but has quickly evolved into the one of the wealthiest and most influential along the western coast.  Through its capital of Athkatla, the city whose streets are rumored to be paved with gold, attracts merchants, adventurers and opportunists alike seeking to strike their fortune in the City of Gold.  The Council of Six, comprised of the most powerful noble houses in the city, rule anonymously to ensure wealth continues to flow at a steady rate.  They remain faceless to shroud the organization in mystery and fear, but more importantly to protect its members from assassination, bribery and manipulation.  North of the city lies the mountain range of Cloud Peaks, with Speartop Mountain, the highest point in Amn, standing at three miles high near the eastern end towards the coast.

Meanwhile, Sothillis's horde has ravaged many of Amn's southern cities and have the port city of Murann, looting ships there with significant imports of Maztican gold, though their goal of finding the fabled Armory of Nedeheim was not met.  The unexpected emergence of Iryklathagra "Sharpfangs", with an assault on the base of Sothillis's Cyricist allies on the Twin Towers of the Eclipse, Amn and the Selunite forces with vested interests may have never had the opportunity to even retake Esmeltaran.  Murann still stands in Sothillis's control however, and they've now fortified their position, much to the distaste of the Selunites who sought to reclaim their temple in Murann.  There are rumors of uneasy truce treaties between the Council and Sothillis going about... but as political tension rises within Athkatla and beyond her walls, however, it seems unlikely that this truce will last very long.

And in Athkatla, political tension is on the rise as trade suffers due to the ongoing conflict.  The Council is pressured into forcing a truce, but there are those who would oppose this paltry peace to suit their own devices...

It is in this land of gold, treachery and danger that you may find your fortune.  What will your tale be?

What is Tales of Amn (ToA)?

Tales of Amn is a new, roleplay intensive persistent world for NWN 2, currently in late development stages.  Built by a group of experienced modders, mappers and scripters with different backgrounds, the ToA team strives to bring players the definitive realization of roleplaying on the setting.  We have a strong emphasis on our policy of allowing players the freedom of roleplaying whatever they wish (with nods to lore accuracy, of course), and dealing with the in character consequences as their character's story plays out and weaves itself into a plot of corruption, politics and adventure.  We're currently looking for your input and suggestions into what would make ToA an exciting experience.  We're also currently looking for, though not in dire need of, experienced scripters, mappers and modders.

We'll be entering beta testing in the coming weeks, join the community and help shape ToA into a fantastic server!

The "Open Door" Policy:

The staff here at ToA come from a variety of servers and were all in some form or another displeased with the amount of content and discussions hidden from the player base, the minuscule effect user input had on staff decisions, and the censor heavy approach taken towards users.

To help foster a culture of trust and proper communication with the player base, our intention is to make much of the internal talk amongst staff members public to players where appropriate.  We want your input on new content, your input on changes, and your opinion on progress being made on the server's development.  This is as much your server as it is ours, and through this policy we hope no member ever feels "out of the loop".

It will be interesting to see Athkatla.

A few things:
While technically anonymous, the membership of the Council of Six is known. Also, the Cowled Wizards only enforce no spellcasting in BG2, they don't in other lorebooks I've read. From your board I guess you are going with the BG2 interpretation of them.

The ranks are known, but the identities of council members are not. Yeah, we did decide to go with a BG2-esque Cowled Wizards realization. It felt like it fit the design niche of not exaggerating the use of magic (in the city, at least) quite well. And more so than anything else, we felt the ever looming "big bother" aura that the Cowled Wizards impose will keep non-affiliated wizard players from exaggerating too much and playing more conservative with their powers.

True, but the names are published. Your players can know them, which would potentially break plots, unless you changed the membership.

It's a roleplaying server, players may know many things OOCly but there are rules against metagaming. A player could know that Set is actually answering prayers to Sseth, for example, but that doesn't mean any one should know this fact in character.

Phalanx you should contact a guy at the ALFA forums named Tridisus. He and some others ran the ALFA Amn server Exodus. They might have some maps you could use.

I'll look into it, thanks. Though I like having a consistent look throughout the server and we've got most of the areas planned out and built or in the process of being built anyway.

They're still online though, I'm not sure they'd want to share their areas?

I am curious about what type of world this is. Is it High or low magic? Is there an emphasis on adventure or on Chat Box role playing?

It's going to be pretty much low magic. I would strongly recommend that you have a browse over the forums as there is a great deal of discussion and insight there. The server is very much open to all feedback from the community. We also have a great deal more screenshots to look at on the forums too. So please drop by and have a look :)

Oh yeah, I forgot about this thread. We're in late development stages and are expecting closed beta pretty soon. The server is actually up (with a password) for live testing, it makes it easier for our developers to work on, but you can explore some areas if you fancy a preview.

If you'd like to help us out, we're currently looking for staff to cover all fields (Mapping, coding, management...), and telling your friends or just signing up on the forums and saying hello to show your support.

@Thorne, it's medium-low, with a mixed emphasis on adventure and chatbox roleplay.  There's going to be a significant amount of dungeon and adventuring content, as well as mechanical goodies such as a random loot generator to keep the adventuring sort entertained.  There isn't a hard XP cap per-se, so it isn't as fierce a grind as other roleplay heavy servers.  At the same time, roleplay is a mandatory part of the server, and good roleplay is rewarded both with in character developments and mechanical perks.

Hey everyone. http://social.biowar...3845/1#15194076

Unfortunately, it seems like support for the Gamespy server list has been pulled. But you can still connect to ToA! If you've visited ToA before, you'll find it in your history tab. Otherwise, here is the connection information:

1) Direct connect: "talesofamn.no-ip.org" OR "86.29.215.114"

Or

2) Check your history tab (if you've been to ToA) and it should be listed.

We've recently added the Underdark city of Olathniar to the server, so monster races have a place to play! We're also updating content on a daily basis. Check us out if you haven't already!

Thanks to everyone for all the support we've been receiving since beta launch. I feel we've recently hit a benchmark with around 50-60 players during peak hours which has made the ToA staff absolutely ecstatic.

It's great to see the server flourishing. We're still in beta though, and we still have a lot to add. Come check us out if you haven't already!

Tales of Amn is growing very quickly and we're adding a lot of new areas and features in! The class changes are out, and there are refurbished areas that put the ones in the OP to shame!

We're now dawning near our final beta period where we're adding the last bits of class changes and content in before launch. ToA is one of the most active servers on NWN 2 currently thanks largely to the wonderful community we've been honored to serve!

If you haven't already, check out the growing community at; http://talesofamn.myfreeforum.org/

Tales of Amn is closed.

The Admin skype logs were leaked.  Myrmidon/Narks/Nuthouse2k and Nyl/Phalanx/Amythest  taught other Admin and staff how to hack other servers to bring them down to find players for their own server.  They trolled players on PCs and used DM powers to bully them if they got upset.  They gave items and Xp to their friends to bully other players.

The players complained  so Admin shut the server and forums down.  http://talesofamn.my...c5fb00374f14972

Interesting....I haven't been back in a while and I get call from my ex saying the server was gone. LOL! At those guys, I figure something was up and so did my ex-wife. Anyhow, I'm having fun in another NWN game...the MMORPG version. Oh well, the game had potential to become something good, but as usual the DMs always abused their power as they have been since near the end of 0NWN 1.

It is kind of sad it went, however. On the how I cannot comment much, there were alot of (Skype) logs involved I didnt see. It's sad because the base persistent world, or module had great design and challenging PvE with quick levelling, which is a plus for many players. (we all are getting increasingly more busy IRL, so spending hours grinding for meager xp or hogging dm events for the sole reason of xp arent an option anymore)

But most sad point is that because of TOA's closure alot of us need to deal with the BG and D servers again, and especially the D server has not changed it's questionable attitude towards players, and what kind of characters we like to play. Where TOA was quite open on problems and sensitive topics, and they also did allow all types of factions and characters, including Eilistreans. Sure we didnt have it easy, but at least we could play our characters. This is something completely unheared off in the D server. Reasons are unknown, always linked to so called "drama" which happened years ago now. Since I have seen some screenshots/logs of that timeperiod in D, it's save to say certain DM's have grown a grudge against players of Eilistraean Drow. Wether we are in the wrong, or not.. they hate us regardless of anything.

Most important is that everyone that did play on TOA was a D reject/ex-player and we all so had our own gripes with the D server. That was the unique part, most servers that split off from another do so over one topic or issue. Here is was a wild combination of player interests that were made their gaming in D impossible by the staff over there that up to this day has not changed their attitude and arrogant behaviour versus players that do not fit in their own circles.

And therefore, TOA will be missed. It was a server that was needed.

OMG Ticla!!!!!! It's been a while! How've you been? I played Charon on Myseria and other servers. Not sure if you have any interest at all in nwn1 still, but I'm staff on The Shattered Realms roleplay server (http://www.tsr-nwn.com/forum) these days, and I can say with confidence that we're very encouraging of player creativity in character concepts. It's growing fast, with 20 players online at prime time and enough to find people to RP with other times of day.

If you haven't tried SCoD then give it a go.  We don't hate Ellistraeans... we just die a little inside every time we see one :D j/k - although at least 50% of the ones i've seen have been lesbian and the players have been mainly interested in ERP, which we do not encourage (although accept if people keep it to private areas).

Sigil, City of Doors.

It's one of the servers I play on currently. I'm a bit so-so on the Planescape setting but it's a valid place to go if you want to play a special race, or Eilistraean.. but expect the world to shrug it's shoulders if you do, so the impact, or purpose to play a Redemption story falls flat in the water.

But it can be a fun server regardless.

Tales of Amn popped up online today, however. Not sure what's going on there =)
