But yeah I'll wager it is being canned, its been how long now? At worst they can take 10 years and it ends up like duke nukem forever.

Even though IGN isn't always the best place for reports, a few websites are talking about it right now.

Also, it's official so far because most of their sources confirmed they moved on to other projects.

I think we should wait till September !st when they will be talking about the future of XIII and the FNC universe. Until they announce it I don't think we can assume this is more than a rumor. Or of course until it's like another 3 months with no word at all. Then it's safe to assume they let it go.

This is sad, it actually looked pretty fun too. But this honestly doesn't surprise me. Considering how long it's been taking for this game to release I expected it to either be cancelled or having extreme problems.

Ehh some people love anything with FF on it, or some giant battleground, which the first Versus was. Didn't care for it either. I am wondering if it was cut for the next FF game which that tech demonstration some folks think was hinting at.

Not going to buy this just yet. I'd be surprised that SE would do this with all the anticipation among JRPG fans and potential profits from that (not to mention the inevitable backlash), yet unsurprised given how the development is obviously an absolute mess that may end up better if SE just cut their losses.

Letting a highly anticipated AAA game die and fall off the radar quietly? If true that has to be one of the most idiotic and senseless moves I've seen in this industry in a while. If something isn't coming you don't drag on the fans or share holders. People do not forget these things and the move will do much more harm than good in the end.

Really I don't care, though. The story is written by Tetsuya Nomura, namely the character designer guy who quickly butchered Kingdom Hearts into a convoluted cluster****, so expecting that to be good is a great degree of wishful thinking. The gameplay was the only thing that had any likely potential to be good, but nothing that could live up to a 6+ year wait.

I would not want to sell another game with FFXIII as a name either.
Still though. If this is true, that's alot of development money and hard work thrown away.
