But really, what about VsXIII made people hype it up to ridiculous levels and beyond to the point of calling it SE's saviour? Sure from what I'd seen from official sources the game was gonna be great, but not THAT great, I get the feeling if this weren't cancelled, it was inevitable there would be disappointment.

don't really care over XIII Versus cancellation.
Square-Enix isn't SquareSOFT. SE have already stated that their "versions" of FF games aren't as good as the classic SquareSOFT games.
so rage all you want, Versus looked good but compare to the classics. I won't waste my hard earned Ca$h

Yeah, that's exactly what I heard, and that would have been amazing in my eyes if the game weren't canned, but I get the feeling the game still wouldn't be good enough in the eyes of those who expect it to be SE's saving grace, it'd inevitably fall short of expectations and many would be disappointed. Of course this is just a prediction if SE were to not can it. I'd love to be surprised but sadly that's not happening now. At least assets used in it will be used for XV. We may see the same battle system be used in XV.

Of course some oldtime fans will always be disappointed, but I doubt it could have ever as bad as XIII and XIII-2 were.

Some rep from Square Enix said to wait for an official answer around September 1st, around TGS. He said that this game isn't cancelled just yet, but I don't know. I want results, not just words.

They're being very weird about this. I remember a while ago a screen was shown with the VsXIII logo, but instead of saying the titular title it said Final Fantasy XV, but with the formers logo design and everything. SE very quickly claimed it as false.
Come to think of it I wouldn't be surprised if VsXIII becomes XV, especially since it was said that assets in the former were going to be used in the latter. Here's a pic. Note the Wii U below the logo.

False. Few had high hopes for XIII-2. That rule also only really seems to apply to the mainstream games. Both the Dissidia's were well regarded, Type-0, while JP only was loved by most who imported it and while I personally couldn't care less for Theattyryhthym (horribly misspelled I'm sure) people felt similar, but now all of a sudden quite a few people seem to want it since its JP release. At least last I cared to notice. There's been hints of a new Ivalice game on the horizon too that may be a sequel to Vagrant Story.

Different devteams. The ones who were working on VsXIII was Nomura's team, ie the Kingdom Hearts team. Those working on the main XIII's are Toriyama's team.
If XV doesn't turn out to be VsXIII like I'm speculating, people think the director/overseer for it will be the guy who covered XII.

You're right. I just hope they use that story somehow. I was looking foward to that futuristic Shakespearean story with a japanese twist. The story of xiii made no sense. If a Final Fantasy game has an amazing story I'll grit my teeth through some tedious or boring gameplay just to experience it. I guess we'll never know what this game could have been.

@Druss99 - Sadly i don't think they will. Square would leech the earnings from Eidos, & IO's probable future successes(Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider) to fund future FF games. I think it's the start of a parasitic relationship in which Square Europe earns the bulk of the sales, and Square Japan uses the money to fund whatever ill conceived project they have in mind.
