I would be kinda glad if it wasn't cancelled as I want to see how this game turns out, if they say they're going to talk about it at TGS then they would be better of announcing something like 'near completion' and maybe a time-window of 2013 for release.
They could also be announcing that it's getting a name change (like Agito did) and they feel Versus XIII isn't a strong title anymore.

While I don't trust Nomura's ability to tell a mature story, the one redeeming quality of KH was the combat. Hopefully, they keep the cutscenes down to a minimum and actually allow us to be awesome in game instead of showing us how awesome we could be.

well, their reasons were still valid. SE still doesn't make quality games. and they even admitted it with their relase statement of FFVII Remake.
just shows they've acknowledge they can't produce good games like SquareSOFT.

Why does anyone visit or pay any attention at all to a trash site like Kotaku?
Seeing "According to Kotaku..." should be enough to make you close whatever you're reading instead of wasting the time thinking about it. It's like listening to the ranting homeless guy on the streetcorner, except the ranting homeless guy is entertaining, probably a better writer, and has more credibility.

6 years and all they have to show for is a few consept art screen shots and a 4 min gameplay trailer that would have looked dated even by 2006 standards when this was announced

Never heard of the site I got the info from but apparently Square Enix is getting rid of the Kingdom Hearts combat it originally had in place for Versus XIII. Very disappointing if it turns out to be accurate.
