What is the Stargazer scene?

Before the Extended Cut, it made sense, since it was implied that they were the descendants of the marooned Normandy crew. They way the Stargazer and the child talk about the galaxy implies that they don't know about aliens or have spaceships, which matches  the original end, where the galaxy was pretty much sent back to the stone age ().

Now, however, we know that the Relays get repaired, and the Normandy is seen leaving the jungle planet shortly after it crashes\\lands. So, Why is the Stargazer scene still there? What is its place in the story now?

It lets Buzz Aldrin have a cameo.

The Normandy couldn't have had many descendants without quickly resorting to incest.

Disturbing.

I guess this is the reason they didn't change it. The EC invalidates it completely, but as stupid as it is now, they just couldn't let it go.

Its just some random planet where some old guy is telling stories of what happened in the past. A tale of murder, sex, drugs and other adult themes.

Really that grandpa shouldnt be looking after kids if thats the kinda stuff he likes to talk to them about.

Then how do they know about Shepard and his\\her story? Liara's beacons? And if I were a child, I'd take stories like his over of crappy fairytales any day :)

He must have one hell of a memory to tell about all the side quests and wandering around lost Shepard did. He could give Homer a run for his money.

It isn't really said explicitly that humanity can't reach the stars in that scene. Might as well be a vague answer given by grandpa to kid too little to explain him everything.

Also, really, implied that they're descendants of the Normandy? I didn't think about it, but I can see why you did.

Well the crew's pretty large. I think if they made a flowchart they could organize a way for the crew to reproduce, and repopulate the planet with humans.

It was used as a slap in the face to tell that the entire ME series, starting at 1, was just a bedtime story, and that none of it actually happened.

Maybe the Stargazer and his grandson aren't from some galactic dark age.

Maybe they're just Amish.

lol yes, totally this right here. seriously the only purpose that scene has is to let you know the entire series never really happened (Yeah it's a game), but that's different between real life and it telling you IN THE FRIGGIN' GAME it was made up. such trash xD

Its the fact that its just a story that can explain the lore errors and why ME1 and 2 have almost no relation to ME3 in terms of plot.

Besides the kid asks "did that all ready happen" and he says "yes but some of the details were lost". Meaning he prolly just made stuff up;.

Or it's just a knowing wink to the fans over the stuff that had been cut over the course of an entire trilogy.

Either way, SPECULATION FOR EVERYONE!Image IPB

I think it is for the "one more story" part, that it is still there.

their were two realms of thought regaarding this

1: "Buy more DLC"

or

2: "Buy Mass Effect 4 upon release or pre-order"

Stargazer is common ground between the endings that mass effect 4 can be built upon

When I saw the grandma scene in the EC (reject ending) I was really happy. The voice acting was so much better that I thought they had updated all of the endings with that. I was a little sad when Buzz was back in my Synthesis ending but I understand the homage to the awesome astronaut.

it a scene where some crappy Amish parents don't let his child ever go to space so his astronaut grampa is telling him stories about the Shepard and how cool space is
