Actually, that's an M240B, chambered for 7.62 NATO. You can't see it, but I'm holding one in my pic too.
EDIT: Wrong smilie...
Facepalm... you're right. I got another one of him laying behind some sandbags with the SAW... got them confused. It was two seasons ago.
You'd be surprised how many active duty POGs get it wrong, so don't feel too bad. By the way, kids got some guns to be holding up that gun. She's a heavy girl, but she always treated me with right. I still miss her.
Yup...the 240B was a great improvement on the old Hawg (M-60). A bit heavier, but well worth humping the extra weight. (Former enlisted Marine infantry here, now commisioned in the Army).
My first unit still had some 60's. Loved that pig, but she was ready for retirement. I was an 11B, but for this deployment I was a 19D (or more specifically, a 00F in a 19D capacity).
Well...I probably have a few years on you. I enlisted back in '84. We still had steel pots (much more comfortable than the 1st gen k-pots), m1955 flak jackets, m-16A1s (call me an old fogey, but I prefer it to the A2/A3s), 1st generation MREs (Blech...dehydrated pork patties), and...yes...M-60s...heck...we were still using shelter halves and deuce (782) gear from the korean war era.
