I like the parts where she ripped off Lisa Jane Smith's "Night World" Series, oh wait she ripped it off the entire twilight series, go figure. At least Lisa Jane had a huge overarching plot line that ended in the end of the world as we know it, what did the author of Twilight give us "Werewolf in love with unborn half vampire/half human baby fetus".

.....What?

I couldn't comment on Lisa Jane. I am not into vampire pulp.

If fantasy, my go-to is Philip Pullmann and His Dark Materials. Its a great story that is also well written.

This seems like a cool thread. This is me enjoying a nice weekend in Yellowstone at my vacation cabin a few months ago. Nothing like getting away from the hussle and bussle of work, life, drama etc for some R & R. Though I freely admit I did miss poppin some Reaper heads while I was gone. I guess that is just part of the N7 training side effects right?

I love those books! I have to re-read them again. Iorek Byrnison was my favorite character in them. I would joke around before that I was going to change my name to Lyra since it's not that much different from my name :P

all characters are very well rounded methinks.

I was really sad to see how they botched up the movie. It was blasphemy compared to the books with a horrible script. No wonder it flopped. And they gave the role of Mrs.Coulter to a blonde...

They certainly could have done so much better with the movie even though I'll still watch it just because it's the Golden Compass. It's sad that they didn't continue them but with reason. Oh yeah, Mrs. Coulter was supposed to have black hair! But I read somewhere that a blonde was chosen because she had a sharp contrast to Serafina PekKalas characters look with the black hair.

As far as the Golden Compass, when the underlying theme of your book/movie is to insult more than 75% of all Americans based on their religion, you can't reasonably expect success.

Yeah I would think that even if it had been a very well done movie, it still wouldn't have been well received.

But I like it because I don't care about any of that stuff.

People often take offense at attempts at trying to make them think.

And its not religion, but the institution around it. The name of Luther pops into my mind... Good going, Martin! (incidentally, it was the 495th anniversary just 2 days ago)

I heard Nicole Kidman was chosen because Philip Pullmann wanted her specifically. Tbh, Catherine Zeta Jones would have been a terrific Mrs.Coulter.

I love movies that make me think..and books!

Yeah I heard that too about Nicole but oh yes, Catherine would have been perfect for that role! I wish they could just re-do the movie but like that's ever going to happen <_<

My wife is a big Chuck Palahniuk fan, but he has problems getting books on screen too. Only Fight Club and Choke have made it so far, and Choke has a pretty substantial change to it. A lot of his writing is a bit darker than the typical movie goer would like.

Also he kind of annoyed me with his whole coming out thing. He didn't behave very well at the time.

I didn't read it, but she told me about "Guts".  Did you try the rest of Haunted?  That was just the beginning of it.

I think I have the audiobook stored somewhere will search it out and give it a listen though - okay DL the ebook for ereader so I can skip certain bits :) I read it online as a short years ago so didn't realise it had been published in book. Only vaguely remember Choke now, read so many books since. So on a positive note thank you Bioware MP team for taking me away from reading too much.

Mostly prefer Irvine Welsh, JG Ballard and Burgess who have similar feel for me anyways. Though when it comes to books I re-read House of leaves by Mark Z. Danielewsi at least a couple of times a year. I'm so nerdy my copy actually has my written notes inside and parts highlighted. Still don't know what the heck happened in it though.

Edit: If completely honest I mostly read murder mysteries or legal thrillers, huge fan of the genres. My intelligent reading choices only slip out occasionally.
