most FPS suck now!!!!
Anyone remember/ever played Novalogic's Delta Force series? most specifically Joint Operations Typhoon Rising.
My god that was a game and a half! 150-250 player servers. All the vehicles/fun stuff that Battlefield has but they just did it so much better. The maps were essentially unlimited. I remember one time taking a zodiac boat out for a ride, put something on my W key, came back 3 hours later and was still going (map eventually repeats itself but yeah, huge maps, not restricting like BF)
You could take a helipcoper to the enemy spawn points and hide in tall grass (yes actually tall grass that would coneal you) and snipe people as they loaded up heli's. And if you had a Barret you could snipe up to 2 KM away if you elevated your scope properly first for the distance ETC.
Or (my favourite) put satchel charges on a big transport craft, while watching 5 people spend about 10 minutes loading powerful APC's onto it. Then take out my binoculars... watch them drive away and just when they are about to get out of sight, DETONATE.
Ugh. BEST game ever.
Unfortunately that company never really had the marketing power. So while the game was very popular on PC (full servers etc) for a couple of years, eventually punkbuster stopped supporting it and it got taken over by cheaters to the point where if you get online now there are probably just a few smaller "clan" servers with custom maps etc.
Nothing like hiding in the bushes with an RPG while you see a blackhawk helicopter filled with 12+ real human players try to land a landing party on a beach. RPG. 12 kills.
UGH anyone play that ever?!! I miss it. I am so baffled at the crap that people play nowadays, FPS shooters have taken a huge step back! all about graphics and cinematics now, and shoebox maps...
I remember joint ops. Maybe a little too ambitious for the time but I still think that should have been rewarded more by customers.
If you're into the "realism" thingymobob I highly recommend the project reality mod for battlefield2.
