Bans handed out for violating Rule #9. When the discussion in this thread becomes an IM, text, or IRC conversation, that's when it gets bad. I consider this a social thread, so I have accepted a certain amount of tangential discussion, but sometimes you guys go too far.

I appreciate the leniency and hope it continues in the future. It would be a crying shame if such a great thread would come to an end due to a few bad apples.

This thread is kind of like a party. People getting to know each other & getting along.

Now it's like a party with some guys having a dump in the corner & trying to start punch ups.

When that happens IRL, the decent people leave & go elsewhere... I think this is already happening here.

But as Dobs said, I've also had a real laugh with a lot of you guys & met some great people to chat to in game. It's been really nice getting to know you all & I'll still be in contact, thread or no thread x

Cool rig Anubis! Although personally I'm a fan of a bit more discreet cases, but I do have a few LED intake fans as well. Here's a shot of mine:



And the specs:
Case: Antec 300
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K @4,4GHz
CPU Cooler: Thermalright HR-02 Macho
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LK
RAM: 16GB 1600MHz DDR3
GPU: AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB
HDD: 2x 1TB (Samsung Spinpoint F3 and some WD Caviar model)
PSU: Chieftec 560W

Only the case and the power supply are left from the original configuration I put together over 4 years ago. I'm very much looking forward to replacing those too, as the case is fairly small and the PSU getting a bit old.

I built a maching at work using that case.  It has a 8 core, 3.5Ghz AMD in it.  I built it solely for doing OCR on a massive number of documents.  Believe it or not my I7, 3.2 at work actually outruns it every time.  And of course the AMD runs hot as crap.  It has liquid cooling and 5 case fans even.

I wish I could do more RAM, but to go over 6GB with my board, I have to lower the clock rate.  I don't think it's worth it at this point.

Same here, I'm glad I'm friends with most of you now.   It really bums me out that this thread doesn't look to live long enough for me to get pics of me and my son in them.  The adoption hit a 2 month delay, so we won't be traveling until probably April, now.

And punch ups..... heh heh.  Love that British slang.  An old boss of mine was a serious martial artist.  He and the guy that trained him used to go into bars for laughs and start fights.  Seriously.  His advice was always go for the loud mouthed guys, being asses.  The quiet guy in the corner who's minding his own business?  He'll take you apart.

Yeah, sadly AMD CPUs are still severely lagging behind in performance. A shame too, some competition in the high performance CPU market would be quite welcome. Right now Intel is completely dominating.

And that 16GB of RAM is rather overkill for anything I'll ever do with this PC. But I figured to just get more than enough at once, instead of possibly needing more later. DDR3 isn't all that expensive right now anyway.
