This class name is to the point and accurate. What do you do as a Destoryer? Destroy ALL the things!

I am usually not one for soldiers in MP but this new addition to the class line up has literally changed the game. It is everything a soldier should be, a badass, multiple heavy weapon carrying tank with legs. Why play a Destroyer?

Because bullets.

The Build:
6/0/6/6/6

Devastator Mode:accuracy/RoF/Dmg
  • Rank 5 mag size increase is tempting and has awesome use on certain weapons like gaining a shot in the Black Widow and the Wraith, but overall RoF seems to give you the most versatile advantage on any weapon you choose to use, including the single shot power-houses.
Multifrag:Radius/Capacity/Nade count
  • These little things are awesome, maybe they dont hit as hard as other grenades, but you have to remember with the above setup you are firing 5 of them at once. When you adjust to the learning curve on these things you can clear out trash faster than most, an excellent panic button when you are overwhelmed, or nice support from range.
T5-V Systems:wep dmg/*unique*/wep dmg
  • Obvious that on this guy you want maxed wep damage. I leave rank 5 marked as unique to account for playstyle. If you want rely on your rifle like a true soldier, take headshots and pop the melon off of anything that isn't a boss unit even on higher difficulties. Taking the power damage increase just means your frags hit harder and that's not a bad thing. The choice is yours here.
Fitness:Health and Shields to keep on keepin' on.

The Loadout:
Typhoon: EB and EM (it has built in piercing!)
Claymore: EB and Shredder
Warfighter/AR amp/shotgun amp/barrage package (again match the gear with your playstyle)
  • If you don't have your hands on a typhoon yet, the Harrier is another great option, if you don't have that either try a Revenant or another favorite AR, some of them recently got buffed! As for the secondary weapon I chose the Claymore because of the reload canceling you can pull off with this class. (which I explain further down in the post.) Alternate backups include the new Piranha or a Hurricane if you have it.

Playing the Field:

One of the greatest advantages, besides all the ones you already receive, from Devastator Mode is being immune to staggering. Take an atlas rocket to the face? Keep shooting. Hunters on your face? Moar bullets. I have avoided death and in turn dealt it more often due to this mechanic. Another very useful function I have discovered with the Destroyer is his ability to reload cancel. Sure, many of us know about reload canceling, and we know that any class can do it with any weapon, and we also know that infiltrators usually benifit the most due the the bonus from TC and its easy timing with TC's cooldown.

At the start of waves I tend to launch my grenades into large groups to help clear the trash and save ammo for elites/bosses. The handy thing is, while carrying large heavy weapons (which have a drawback of a slow reload time) you can hit the granade power button to cancel your reload instantly instead of waiting on a cooldown such as cloak. Instant Claymore or Typhoon reloads make this leadhose even more deadly.

Another mentionable note that I have noticed with this class is his heavy melee. Yes, you read that correctly, but it is not because it deals massive damage, but for the simple fact that if you do get downed, as you are revived (or if you self-gel) you can heavy melee much like geth can to clear yourself of enemies with a staggering AoE, except the Destroyer bypasses the standing animation, meaning you get back up and kcik the earth in the face like a boss. This may be a bug and changed in a future patch.

The grenades also serve as a nice stun on a wide area for normal mobs as well.

Ill go for Ammo rate. With RoF you burn out bullets too fast while with Ammo rate witll give you 25% more bullets to kill and have spare to run to nade.

My Valiant can shoot 6 shots before reload. Wraith 3 shots, Black Widow 4 shots, Harrier 48 bullets instead of 36 at lvl 1 and so on.

But seriously. What colors fit the Devastator? Colors are everything when it comes to the character.

Put the Falcon on this build and it will be 50% of the way to the pre-nerf Falcon

^^ mines green and purple to resemble the hulk! To the Op of this though, should try the N7 shotgun forgot the name...instead of the claymore, with the Dev mode it shoots so fast and hits really hard, also the falcon works wonders as well (suggest being the host if you use it though)

N7 Crusader. Yeah, I roll with it. 6 shots with ammo rate is so sweet.

I mentioned the Piranha as an option, and I'm torn between it and the claymore personally. The claymore is still just one of the highest dps guns in the game so its hard to put down :P but the RoF you get with the Piranha is awesome. Falcon is great as well, this is why I didn't specify "you must you these weapons and gear" for this class to work, it gives you so many options to fit how you play.

I would not totally rule out the ammo boost. Rate of Fire can be good for some weapons and not for others. It all depends on what weapons you intend to use mainly. Anything that is rapid enough fire already benefits from the clip boost (Hurricane, Piranha, I'm looking at you).

Because he doesn't stun and has a rather sizable sheild pool, you can afford to stick your head out of cover longer to really make use of those expanded clips. Nothing like eating a Geth rocket or two and not giving crap while mowing down the launchers.

Also your engagement range is something to consider. Even in bases as small as Glacier you can actually find a few decent spots where you can just keep a steady stream of micro-pellets pumping into funneled groups.

On the reload cancel... hush, do want people to startup the whole "reload cancel is unfair" thing again?

Here's hoping it doesn't get a love tap by the nerf-bat.

As for colors, go with the default N7 colors. I have all my characters looking like actual N7 marines with N7 grade weapons. Kind of helps my little roleplay that I am working with the "unoffical N7s" in their various operations. I was disappointed with how many people are making their N7 characters all kind of wierd color setups.

BW has confirmed that it is simply a game mechanic that is exploited and isn't anything that is going to get changed or count as "unfair" such as cheating or something. Just worth the mention :P

I think he might mean the N7 Piranha, instead.

I ran a Missile-less Destroyer--which seems to be the preferred way to roll--and it was certainly effective. But I don't like completely neglecting a power if I can't help it, so I did some respecing and when I ran out of cards I promoted and started from scratch and found a build I quite like.

6/6/6/5/3
1: Up up up. The buff to shields will make up for the T5-V IS' sobering 3 points and the hit to shields from ML mode.
2: Up (to lessen the penalty) Down (though honestly refire time might be better) Down (COBRAAAAAA!).
3: Up up up. BOOM BOOM BOOM!
4: Down up. More bang for your buck.

(Sorry it's not as pretty as the OP; I'm sure today's been a trying day for all of us considering what happened)

Something that I noticed today. In Devestator Mode you have to manually reload SMGs (or at least the hurricane, though I'm not sure if it's supposed to work that way or a glitch. Will test on a few others and edit post as necessary.
In any case, with a shield not as juiced as the OP's build, you'll want to actually make use of cover when possible on higher difficulties, but you can hang it out a bit longer than most other classes. Your missiles fire about every three and a half seconds (less than three if you choose Refire cooldown instead of better Armor damage) and with the 15% dropping your penalty to 35% and your +40% shields, you'll have a +5% boost to max shields, you'll be heartier than without Devastator mode on even with missiles blasting off. Turn off missiles when necessary to get your shield bonus back up, but try not to stay with it off for too long as you'll appreciate that roughly 600 damage over 2m every 3-4 seconds even when you aren't actively attacking.
This build, like all Devastators, doesn't need a fast cooldown, but avoiding getting it to far negative will save you precious seconds when switching off modes from offense to defense and back again. The phaeston, vindicator are great lighter weight choices and the striker, harrier, and typhoon are excellent heavier weapons on the rapid-fire side of things, though if you're skilled with SMGs you will find little to dislike, save the lack of self-reload when you run out as mentioned above. From there your second gun depends on your play style as this build is pretty flexible and can accommodate most any soldier play-style.

I got the stupid Crusader to V with the Comm Pack so I threw it on the Destroyer for a few laughs. But wow, it's pretty amazing. With a Smart Choke you basically have a better Black Widow.

Wait, Devastator Mode makes you immune to stagger? I MUST UNLOCK THIS class!

Seriously, I have been getting so pissed at the geth lately with all their stun-locks. Today, about 75% of my games were against the geth, and it was just awful. The worst was FB: Rio. Got a pizza delivery on Wave 10 and had to carry the stupid things across the entire map. First time I've failed a Silver match in I don't even know how long.

Kroguards do not get staggered unless its from melee.
