Not sure of all the possible implications this could have, but maybe BioWare could snap the D&D license up (or ask EA to buy it for them) if Hasbro really do end up pulling it from Atari?

Nevermind whether BW need it or not, I personally'd rather that it be them than anyone else =] right?

I mean, a 4E game, set in the Forgotten Realms, made with all the modern technology, by BioWare? (or Obsidian.) Wet and you know it.

Another set of questions to ask are:
-Does Bioware even want to? What with all the fuss regarding using a license, them having made their own system (plus accompanying crpg and pen-and-paper rpg).
-Do we want it? Me, absolutely not.

Naah! Ignore Wizards' heavy handed changes, and stick to the TSR basics. But even EA would be an improvement over Atari, which is atrociously bad.

but then at least they'd be able to give us the option to have a log of rolls etc. in Dragon Age 2 without worrying about anyone seeing how similar it is to D&D? :P just sayin'

I guess they can live well without it. D&D set a standard long time ago. Seems 4th Ed is messed up instead of improving 3.5. Why employ a system, where the developers seem to have shot themselves in their own knees? Besides there are actually better RPG-Systems out there and also Bioware so far did a good job in introducing their own system.

As for D&D 4th edition, if I want to play WoW, I'll play WoW.

Obsidian will do a better job at it I think, those guys are closer to that setting. Bioware has been saying how they were restricted by the DnD system, but in the end their system in DAO is not as interesting as DnD is, in my opinion.

4e D&D is actually a very BALANCED and FUN game. All classes are cool and worth playing. A lot of people complain about Mages being overpowered in DA, and 2-handed warriors being crap. 4th edition D&D addresses these kind of issues; it's the best balanced class system I've seen.

Give it a try, it would actually be PERFECT for a computer game. It's almost as if it was designed as such. Gotta agree with the poster who said a 4e Forgotten Realms game would be awesome!

I cannot imagine Bioware switching to using D&D at this point. As far as developing their own Intellectual Property (the DA:O rules system) is concerned, the worst is over, and now it's a question of recovering the expense of developing that system and reaping the rewards.
Switching to D&D would require all future game design decisions to be approved by the IP holder - which I can assure you improves the quality of neither the design nor the designers' lives.

Obsidian are indeed much more at home with the DnD license than Bioware. They are also much more free to work on it as they see fit and give us a high quality product like they always do. I want a "gamers" game yet again from them. They seem to grasp this much better than most.

This is a thread more suited to Off Topic, as it doesn't pertain to Dragon Age. Please restart it there.
