So what is a fun clan to play as? The default clan Toreador seems kind of boring. I was thinking of the mystic one- er, Tremere.

edit- LOL, that interview is great, particularly the part about what it's like to voice game dialogue.

My first time through I played as a Tremere. They pretty much have the best magic skills. I'd highly advise against being Nosferatu your first time. You have to play them a very specific way because they don't exactly blend in with the general population which can make things difficult. Toreadors aren't bad either.  Probably one of my favorite characters in the game is a Toreador (VV).

But after you play it once, you have to play as a Malkavian. The dialogue choices are so different and so bizarre based on the fact that you're Malkavian. Or maybe you could play through the intro with a non Malkavian and a Malkavian character to see the difference and then see which you like best?

I might at least do that with a Tremere. I like how she looks better, too.

I know better than to play a Nosferatu the first game. lol

So far all I've installed was the 1.2 patch and I've been playing the game for about 10 days now with a Female Malkavian. F*ckin' love it.

It reminds me of high school and college days where we'd play VtM, and Werewolf, and Mage... and I was the only person willing to run Hunter: The Reckoning sessions. I really wish there was a Bloodlines style Hunter game.

Everyone wants to be the Monsters no one wants to be the Monster Slayer!

Hell I'd even make the sessions fun by letting them run across AU versions of their Kindred and Garou. Which usually resulted in their Hunter's deaths. *shrug*

Ok, I got the Tremere going, and I think I'm gonna keep her. Great dialogue. Combat is very wonky. At least she's got high stealth, I think I'm gonna rely on that mostly.

Good, but playing a Nosferatu is still an awesome experience. There's just something about having to hide constantly that makes it fun:)

Oh god... I remember the first time I played this game, and the vamp slayers came out of nowhere and tried to burn me alive. I was freaking the hell out, with these two Blade wannabes with their torches, chasing me outside of Nines' bar.

Picked this up when it was on sale, can't wait to play it. Unfortunate you can't find this genre of RPG anymore. It's either Sci-Fi or Fantasy nowadays.

I'll be honest- there were times I just turned on God mode to get by certain sections and certain boss fights.

Also before certain patches, some rooms would freeze the game depending on how you entered. So the only way to pass certain quests is to antagonize goons, and we all know the controls aren't smooth enough for you kill everyone on skill alone.

The physics of the game definitely leave something to be desired. There is a hatch in the tutorial that froze my game if I didn't approach it just so.

Make sure to patch. This game is old and unfinished upon release, so it needs a lot of care. It's been 8 years and people are still making patches, mods and digging up console commands just to get it to run as desired.

The dialogue is worth it in both cases. As a Malkavian you get the weird and hilariously wacky dialogue. However the standard dialogue is chock full of pop culture and gaming refeerences that are totally worth seeing too. I also like the non-Malkavian taunts more. Maybe I just like the idea of my character mockingly referring to herself as a momma disciplining unruly children before smacking everyone down. :P

I'm surprised you used god mode, Brock. I honestly don't get why this game has a reputation for being hard. While there are two very tedious late game zones, Bloodlines is one of the easier RPGs I've played. :pinched: Going full stealth or melee + fortitude or celerity is practically god mode in itself. They really hold your hand unless you're exclusively focusing in conversation skills.

After failing the cemetery invasion level 20 or 30 times, I had to turn off clipping and give myself unlimited ammo in order get past it. That section was insanely hard to beat.

Oh yeah, that section I will concede is insanely hard until you have it memorized. Even then, only if you are playing a firearms focused character. I usually get Romero's quest done the alternative way to save myself the hassle.

I was playing a Tremere who uses mainly Thaumaturgy and tried every possible combination of melee weapons, powers, firearms, even used the console command for flamethrower, which didn't help, either. Even in God Mode, I couldn't beat it, because you have to protect both gates at the same time. I had to turn off clipping in order to be able to fly back and forth to both gates.

You pretty much need a Steyr Aug or the sniper rifle (whatever it's called) to finish it without losing your sanity. At least in my experience. Which is dumb because the reward is firearms training or a sniper rifle. Finishing it at the time you arrive is pretty much impossible with any builds I've tried.

Playing a Toreador helps a lot there too. Auspex + celerity makes them by far the best gunners. Without high ranks in those disciplines it's just torturous.

Well that's discouraging. Honestly I don't know if I'm going to stick with it- the issues are annoying- for one thing something about it fries our system. I've had the screen go wacky purple and had to hard reboot a few times when trying to launch the game.

Seriously, this game is a b*tch and a half to get running properly. But once you do, it's a gem full of other gems that you'll never see repeated in another game in the eight years it's been out.

Can't say I felt the same - after the one Mega-Patch, it seemed to work without any issues. Planescape:Torment, on the other hand, took several patches and required a 300 MB program download(due to an nVidia card issue) to get the frame rate above 20-ish. It was a nightmare.

Their latest patch is over 300mb. It has a lot of issues, especially on Windows 7. But each patch gets a little better at getting it working more properly. It's hard to say a game has no issues when it crashes depending on which end of the door frame you step on in order to enter a room.

The Ocean View Hotel has won awards for its level design. Man is it a great quest of the best in the game.

Ah, man. I remember this game. Too bad Troika folded right after it came out.

I still remember going in that crack house on the beach and just imploding everyone...haha.

They actually have a vampire game coming out that kind reminded me of this game. What is it called? Dark? I'm keeping a eye on that game because if it's anything like Bloodlines, day 1 buy for me.

It's so fun being a noob and clueless. I'm thinking "go to the hotel, get this thing... OMG I'm in The Shining..." And no combat at all, for all that tension. Pretty cool.

Lol, man when first heading into the basement I was actually a bit scared. The floating lamps, books and whatever all flying out one second you are running trying not to get hit by a storm of um stuff next you fall through a door into the basement and it's very dark.
