I finally got that dude (the Cathayan)... bleh, the bosses are such a pain. But I found he was susceptible to Blood Strike. I think I was too jerky at first to stand and wait for the blood to come back and heal me, but that makes a big difference in the long run. Blood mages FTW.

Now I'm really nervous about how to level up, though. I have 4 points in firearms and 2 in melee but so far the guns have been underwhelming.

Stick to shotguns. revolvers are practically slingshots. Subterfuge is also important in the role playing aspects. The less people can guess your motives, the more things you can get away with.

That was my problem, though- I built the character with an Agent history, so gave her some talents in computer, stealth and seduction, but that leaves me vulnerable in these boss battles because she's kind of a squish.

That's the kind of character I always build too. The only trick is shotguns, Bloodpacks and a combinations of Bloodbuff then Bloodstrike. Bloodbuff boosts the efficacy of everything you do. It doesn't last long, but initiating Bloodbuff first, then using whatever tactics you're planning will improve your chances of success by a huge margin.

You will find much better guns in Hollywood. That said, guns are an all or nothing proposition. You need to raise the ranged stat as high as possible. Consider raising auspex too if you have it. The higher your ranged stat, the more lethal guns are. They just take a long time to reach their full potential. Melee is more level in that its at least decent throughout the game.

The tooltips and characters make a point of saying guns are not too great, but in my experience it's BS. It's just the crappy starter guns that suck. The first pistol and machine gun are nowhere near indicative of what's available later.

If you decide to make a different kindred, I recommend making a Gangrel. They don't get enough love, but they combine magic and the beast side of the Vampire better than any other clan. It lets you do cool things like having a flock of bats eat a target, being eaten from the inside out by beetles, or transforming into a giant manbat. Also, don't undermine the importance of seduction. All of the women in the game seem to be bisexual, so you can sweet talk your way past most problems or people blocking your path.

Persuasion gets you farther than seduction in certain spots. It's worth more in solving at least one quest too. I'm a fan of seduction myself, but it's only real perk is free blood from the women at clubs. That isn't much of an advantage when you can jump someone in an alley; or use a discipline to stun onlookers long enough to attack a victim without breaking the Masquerade. You can usually persuade or intimidate past the same conversations where seduction is useful. If you're playing a Malkavian or Ventrue, dementation and dominate respectively can also substitute at times.

Gangrels are definitely overlooked. Protean claws do aggravated damage which is the best you can mete out against supernaturals. That said, a Brujah or Toreador with maxed celerity, presence or potence is nastier. Beastform is pretty slow compared to zipping around with a katana. Ventrue is also a good melee choice since fortitude makes them super tanky against bullets, and suicide handily kills any human enemies.

Then there is sneak. Sneak is basically god mode. You don't even need obfuscate if you max it out. You can sneak past nearly everyone and stealth kill or feed without getting spotted. The only time you will ever need to worry about fighting is boss encounters.

The sewers was pretty tough when I was playing as a Ventrue. I really hated that entire part. I usually play as Toreador. They are so awesome with their mystique and magic. They seem overpowered, though. I destroyed a boss just by using the move where they throw up blood (forgot the name).

I thought the Nosferatu did not get enough love. I really hated that playthrough only because I know how much fun I was missing by not being able to start dialogue with some of the characters.

...Jeez, I wish they would make a sequel or something. It has SO MUCH potential. I remember seeing a YouTube video where someone was updating the graphics to use some kind of Half-Life engine. I have no idea what the progress on that is. I'm also wondering what is up with the MMO.

I built my Malk around talking her way out of (and into) situations. Thanks to the whole Dementation thing, she's bluffed and flirted (and sexed) and intimidated and insaned her way through all kinds of obstacles and encounters. Early on Hysteria and Mass Hallucination got her through many a fight, later on Obfuscate made things easier to just sneak by or assassiinate select inviduals to skip proper fights, while currently Blood Buff is kind with her damn Katana Blade. She's pretty mediocre with ranged and melee, but she has just enough points in both to get the job done. Really I built her to be jack-of-all-trades, where cash and items help make up for her shortcomings.

Right now I'm at the second fight with the Tzmisce (sp?) and since I picked up that special Katana Blade in the Hallowbrook Hotel its making the fight alot easier BUT I keep forgetting to block and jump out of the way of attacks when I engage in close quarters so despite the fact she's wearing heavy leather AND heather's under armor, my Malk goes down in like 4 hits.

AND DAMMIT... I really liked Heather. (Especially when she's gothed out or in her underwear). Is there anyway to save her? 'Cause after this boss fight I plan on sulking at VV's strip club to make me feel better.

Yeah, the mod was called Bloodlines: Resurgence (www.bloodlinesresurgence.com/) but it's pretty much dead now, which is a shame because it looked absolutely amazing. The MMO (World of Darkness Online) is still being developed, but CCP is concentrating on making Dust514 (for PS3) so it'll take awhile till WoD Online is out. You can find more news on the MMO here www.wodnews.net/ .

You need a mod for that, it's probably included in the unofficial patch+ , but if you don't want to download that there's a standalone mod here www.vampire-network.net/modules.php. You just need to tell her to stay indoors when she says that she's being followed.

Yeah. Send her away before the event when she gives you armor. Heather's entire arc is a cautionary tale on the damned existence of a vampire. It's the one aspect of VtMB that hammers home how crappy being undead really is.

The writers hint at Heather's fate early on. Namely when she mentions feelings eyes upon her, and comments on possibly being followed. The PC has enemies everywhere. Keeping an ignorant addict around in an increasingly dangerous situation is choosing to satisfy a selfish indulgence over looking out for her well being.

ooh, alright. Thanks much.  I barely got ahold of the AT "true" 4.5 patch that just fixes and restores the base game. Haven't even isntalled that yet due to the fact I want to try the game out in its "broken' form so i can appreciate all the fixes. But totally dling this, thanks!

Haven't yet had the chance to fully play this game yet, but it's definitely on my list I intend to play sooner or later. Though I'm afraid it'll end up being the latter.

The atmosphere and writing are fantastic. Hard for me to believe I'm enjoying a vampire game this much, it's not my thing at all.

My points in infiltration finally paid off- got the stealth bonus in the warehouse mission. Also learned to appreciate Dominate.  That's really what got me through there.

Don't forget to visit every club and pick up your groupies. They help with blood when your too low on cash or seduction for blood packs or hookers.

I don't touch the hookers, not when random people mill about in alleyways away from the public. Its free to eat them and if you mess up a feeding attempt its cheaper to jump into manhole and wait out the cops than try to come up with 40 bucks again.

If your seduction is high enough, it's free. Also the groupies ensure healthy blood on tap. Bums' blood is weak and they drain out too fast. Few pedestrians go deep in alleys in certain cities. So groupies and seducing hookers is the best way to have a constant flow of blood at your disposal.

You need around 8 seduction to pull that off though. It is way, waaay cheaper to cast something like nightwisp ravens, trance, or hysteria on any onlookers and then jump on your victim of choice. Those lower tier disciplines only cost one blood point to activate, and you don't get slapped with a masquerade violation if no one lucid spots you feeding. If the first victim doesn't have enough blood, stun them afterward and jump on the next guy to top off.

Unless you are playing a clan without a stun ability such as Brujah, you can feed with impunity almost anywhere.

A few notes from someone who has played the game quite a bit:

Yes, Gangrel are a bit underrated. But the form in itself is a bit on the slow side. If you ask me, Fortitude and Animalism up to the swarm of bats (Bloodsuckers' Communion I think it's called) is what it's all about (because it's an instant kill that returns more blood than it costs). Both are very powerful. I don't really like the other Animalism abilities, except for the wolf, but I only like that one because it never gets old seeing your helpless foes get mauled by a spectral wolf.

If you want a ranged character, I'd say a Toreador is the perfect clan. Celerity (most powerful discipline in the game by far) and Auspex (which increases ability with ranged weapons).

Then again, Celerity has a tendency to make the game easy no matter which weapons you like you use.
