I'm still early in the game (in downtown) but do regret taking ranged weapons. I'm always out of ammo and can't buy the stuff I need, so they end up being worthless basically.

Is it worth it to buy the heavy clothing for some more armor?

The Heavy Clothing will end up reducing your dex, so I think that effects your ability to use ranged weapons so it really depends if you're gonna go melee/unarmed. I'm middle of the road as far as melee/ranged and I'm rocking the heavy clothing and under armor and tend to use my ranged weapons upclose and personal.

Oh, well that's interesting. Too bad I already bought it. *feh*

I really hate the boss battles. I don't know why god mode isn't working for me.

No, Heavy Clothing rise your damage protection from Bashing and Lethal damage types by 1. It doesn't reduce your Dex, but the next available armor (light leather) does. It goes like this:

Armor, Bashing, Lethal, Dexterity
Heavy Clothing +1,+1,0
Light Leather +2,+2,-1
Hvy Leather +3,+3,-2
Body Armor +4,+4,-3

So yes, you should always buy the best available armor, it helps greatly and the penalty to Dex isn't all that bed. Dexterity only affects Sneaking and Lockpicking but you can take off the armor before picking the lock, and change armor during the combat (sneak without any armor and if they find you just put it back). So as you can see wearing the armor doesn't have any dowsides to it.

There is a third type of damage "Agrravated" (fire, fire bolts, electricity, hand to hand with fangs, claws) and no armor can protect you against it. The only defence against it is "Fortitude" discipline (Gangrel and Ventrue).

As for the God mode. If the "god" console command doesn't work for you just use the "notarget" command. The enemies won't be able to see you :)

I remember seeing a YouTube video where someone was updating the graphics to use some kind of Half-Life engine. I have no idea what the progress on that is. I'm also wondering what is up with the MMO.

Yeah, the mod was called Bloodlines: Resurgence (www.bloodlinesresurgence.com/) but it's pretty much dead now, which is a shame because it looked absolutely amazing. The MMO (World of Darkness Online) is still being developed, but CCP is concentrating on making Dust514 (for PS3) so it'll take awhile till WoD Online is out. You can find more news on the MMO here www.wodnews.net/ .

Damn, sounds like WoD is going to take forever to complete. I mean it isn't a game that I have high hopes for since I'm not a huge fan of MMO's, but I still want to see if it turns out anything like Bloodlines. Thanks for the links, and I'm kind of sad to see the mod never really gained any ground. Their forums are almost dead.

Yeah, that's something I neglected to mention before. You need to pick up ranks in finance to make buying ammo viable. If you have any research skills, you can get by taking two points with XP. Then learn two with books. The last, most expensive point can be learned for free from Fat Larry after completing "Traffik". His store discount is actually a free point in finance. That's enough to make bullets fairly cheap without dropping anything into haggle.

I will admit guns are not really a good first playthrough choice. My first markswoman was heavily metagamed since I knew exactly where to get free ranks in firearms and finance from books and quests.

It's CCP so don't worry about them doing a good job. Eve Online of the only sandbox MMO's with a large population. I can see CCP doing a great job.

Don't give up on ranged weapons quite yet, their effectiveness is raised exponentially as you find new weapons in new chapters. Ranged weapons are beast late-game, melee is mid-game, and unarmed is early-game

No gun matches up to the Katana with some points invested in melee.

Well I will say that going the Tremere route with a hefty investment of melee points went pretty well. You can't go wrong with Katana.

I agree with Nordicus.

The flamethrower can waste almost anything you encounter in seconds with a full tank. It's *the* boss crippling weapon.

Jaime Sue takes down nearly anything  in a single hit from afar. Those large flesh monsters in the sewer? Cannon fodder with this gun.

Then there's the Colt Anaconda and McLusky. Not as insane as the previous two, but fairly effective workhorse guns that kill the legions of end game vampires with ease. The last two levels with one of these two guns is a cakewalk. Even if you don't have a flamethrower, it's much easier to kill the two bosses with a Cold or McLusky than a melee weapon. If you're cheap and don't want to spend any money on buying guns, the Steyr Aug is decent too. It just takes a few seconds longer to kill things.

All that said, a Tremere with maxed our Thaumaturgy, Daimonori equipped *and* guns is a wrecking ball that tears through anything without trying.

Even the Steyr Aug is pretty good if you're cheap and limit yourself to guns enemies drop.

Not pretty good, excellent. With full Ranged, the weapon has no recoil at all. Combine that with good damage and rate of fire, and you have the essential Crosshairs of Death

I probably haven't used it enough. By endgame I switch between guns constantly since I'm swimming in ammo. I just equip whatever feels fun in the moment. :D

Toreador have the best outfits in the game and have some really neat interactions with certain NPCs (Velvet Volour among them) but overall (female) Malkavian is the best playthrough I've had due to their Insight (especially the ones with the Asian chick are gold but require some knowledge of WoD lore).

Every clan is worth playing, though, and powerful in their own way. Nosferatu is probably the most unique playthrough.

Heh, I'm doing Fat Larry's quest now.

Leveling is so hard.  :(  They say "don't spread your points around, concentrate," then "but you need points in ____".

I haven't found many books, just a couple in Santa Monica and now I've got two I can't read because my Research isn't high enough.

I doubt anyone can help, but I'm going out of my gourd.

I'm doing the Traffik quest for Fat Larry and managed to get through a few of the vents, but I've spent an hour trying to get into this one.  It seems like with the glitchiness of the physics engine you have to rely on pure luck to get across the gap and into the vent.  As soon as I jump I hit the ceiling and fall- over and over and over.  My combat skills are too weak to take on a garage full of hoodlums that all rush you at once.  Any advice?

There's only one way to do this one. Run and Gun. There a few spots for silent kills, but these vents are impossible to get into. Also, if you're having problems with this, good luck finding the Nosferatu.

Don't jump. Move to the top of the ladder (as high as you can) then rotate the view to face toward the hatch, just like in your screenshot :

Now press the "W" button (move forward) and hold it.

You can go all the way down using the vents and stealth. You can even finish this entire quest without killing anyone and you will get EXP bonus for doing that.

The vents are quite possible to get into.

As the poster above pointed out, you shouldn't jump to reach the vent. Climb the ladder all the way to the top and move there. I've done it about a million times by now. If it doesn't work for you, there must be some kind of controls or compatibility issue.

I forgot to mention - you need to crouch before going up the ladder.
Here is how to do it. POC Posted Image

The advice to walk forward did work, thank you- but I still had to give up on the stealth bonus.  When I got to the next door, I was stuck in the door, couldn't drop no matter what I did.  Reminds me that my first glitch of the game was on a downward ladder in the tutorial- if I didn't hit it just right, I was stuck and had to start over.

Man, this quest was a b*tch.  A mere 1 xp for all of that since I didn't have the stealth bonus, plus 1xp from returning to Larry- and he didn't give me a point in Finance??

While doing Damsel's side quest, keep you eyes open for a book on finance in one of the apartments. That should even things out. If you had enough persuasion, you could convince Fat Larry to give you a discount along with getting paid for the quest.

That might be one of the books I have now that I can't read yet.  And he doesn't give you a discount automatically?  Geez.  Now I feel like I should reload and come back to this quest later, except then I'd have to crawl through all those ducts again.

Sorry to be grumpy, I feel like I spent precious gaming hours fighting the engine on a quest that wasn't even interesting.  In general downtown has been lackluster compared to Santa Monica.  Oh well, I do appreciate the help.

Nope, you have to persuade him while he's offering the job in order to get that discount. Don't worry, Hollywood is a lot more fun. All of the kindred in Hollywood have good quests. There's even an easter egg quest that'll make any hardcore rpg player smile. From that point on, things get a little weird in chinatown, and the rest of the story really picks up.

The sad thing is this game was rushed out the door and it's about 8 years since it hit the market, so there are a lot of kinks that need ironing out. Which is why you get weird problems like the ladder leading into the vent being just to the left of the openning. Despite the fact that this game has a lot of bugs, it's still one of the best rpgs ever made.
