9 times out of 10 when I steal I get a message telling me I was sucessful, but nothing else. No coin, no new items in my backpack? Anyone got any explainations?

I'm playing a Rogue now and am stealing from pretty much every NPC I can, and have been watching for this behavior. I've noticed this very, very few times. Certainly not 9 out of 10, and I doubt it's even close to 1 out of 10 tries. In fact, it's happened so few times that I'm not convinced it isn't a matter of the item I got was first in the list and my cursor just happens to eliminate the yellow highlight before I noticed it. That or I actually get an item and it's not highlighted.

I suggest you check your inventory and gold before stealing. Perhaps if you got some coins it doesn't say it always.

been testing this all morning. It defiantly happens the majority of the time, and nothing new is added to my inventory. Kind of disappointing

Stuck with the same problem. At first I thought it was a location problem, since all my "stealing success" yielded me nothing in Redcliffe. After a few plot points it started working, but only about 15-20% of the time.

Oh well...

Yep, same thing happened to me. Good thing I tested it out before I permanently wasted points on the stealing skill. That and I assumed that you wouldn't find any unique stuff by stealing. Could be my loss, but I'm okay with that.

It could be that you are getting stack items...coins, flasks, potions, ect. Try this, Empty ur inventory and steal to see what changes. I seem to have no problems but then again im using an NPC to steal not my own char :P

Any chance you guys are using a reduce steal cooldown mod? I never noticed this problem before using the mod, but now it does happen every now and then.

This whole issue would be settled if the game simply TELLS you what exactly you have stolen.  The fact that it just says "Items Received" is just beyond mind boggling.

I play on the PS3 so there can be no mods affecting it and I've noticed this too. At least 50% of the time it says success with nothing to show for it.

This is exactly what has happened to me. Stealing has worked perfectly fine during the entire game for me but when I came to a certain area after about half the game (according to heroic accomplishments) this bug showed up and now I only receive anything when the victim has coins to steal. Otherwise I get a successful steal but no new stuff in me inventory (100% of the time).

I have Dragon Age installed on my parents computer too. I will check if I have the same problem there. In that case there could be due to some corruption in the saved game files.

I have this problem too, shows a successful steal without any goods. Looking for new items is sometimes difficult to check at least on the PS3. New items are highlighted even if they stack but when you're scrolling past the first page the highlight gets removed when you're actually over the item. And there's no apparent way to page ahead so that any highlights don't get removed (or is there?).

Are you guys patched to 1.03? It seems to be a 1.03 issue. As noted in my old post in this thread, I had no such problems with stealing, but after patching to 1.03 I'm getting exactly the behavior Niolator describes (only receive coin, never get a random item, even though it reports successful stealing).

Which version did you have installed before patch 1.0.3?

What a bunch of thieves we have in DAO. Stealing from refugees indeed! Whatever would Andastria think? Tut tut!

The popup "Item Aquired" doesn't happen either.

I was a dwarf... could steal all over Orzamaar.  I can't steal at all in Denirim or the Dalish camp.  I think it's location based (or rather, NPCs in some locations are buggered.)

now i confirm it's the 1.03 patch because prior to install the patch, i steal from every single thing in the game. after installing DAOAwakening and p1.03, all i get froms stealing is coins "IF" the mob/npc has money. no more elf root, no more items.

stealing is broken now.

The stealing fix in my signature may address problems you've seen with stealing in 1.03.

The bug was simple enough--if you had any money at all, you would not be able to steal mundane items. (If you can somehow zero out your money you'd have found yourself able to nip items again, until you nipped a copper or two and found yourself back to the bug. :) )

Thank you Nukenin, awesome fix you've provided, much appreciated (and I can see what I get without checking my inventory!)
