I don't know why people feel so bad for the Krogan. All the problems they face are their own fault!

They destroyed their own homeworld almost immediately after gaining the capability to do so, and by the time the Salarians found them they were well on their way to extinction.

The Salarians uplifted them in exchange for their help fighting the Rachni (and they basically committed genocide), and afterwards they were generously rewarded.

Eventually they got greedy, because they couldn't maintain their own planets, first using threats and then started taking worlds that belonged to others!

They betrayed the Council because they couldn't get their way and when the Turians got involved later, they resorted to dropping asteroids on their worlds. They destroyed three colonies, and considering the rarity of worlds that fit Turian biology, that's pretty devastating.

The Krogan deserve the genophage in my opinion, which truthfully is merciful. Even if Wrex and Eve are in charge the Council would never give the Krogan new worlds, or they would stall them, which Wrex implied he wouldn't stand for, and he would threaten the Council, leading to the second Krogan Rebellions which would end the Krogan once and for all.

Yes, I would cure the Genophage.

Then, assuming we survived the war, I'd quietly hire the Salarians to re-invent the Genophage in a different manner:  Krogan females could only breed every 50-ish years.

And then have the Krogan studied to find out if that would give them a more "normal" breeding rate...

Anyone else think that the krogan are a symbol for humanity now, in reality? That's why I cured the genophage. Aside from not having the ability to exterminate an ENTIRE species (saved the rachni queen both times) who am I to be judge and jury of a species that, as we saw in ME3, has the potential to change?

I'd really like some feedback on this! :D

If the Genophage were reformulated to eliminate stillbirths, but keep the birth rate down around where it already is (perhaps a bit higher)? That would be for the best. It eliminates the major morale drain which convinced them they were going extinct, showing that yes, they can breed, but no, their young are not going be so numerous that they can (per Patriarch in ME2) kill each other in the nest as a matter of course.

Stability without the cruelty of a thousand stillborn? Yes. A return to Horde Mode, though? ...no.

Don't make the mistake of thinking female Krogan wouldn't want revenge, too.

EDIT: Who are we kidding with this thread? 64% of players had Wreav instead of Wrex, but 92% cured the Genophage anyway. Far too many people do whatever the top of the dialogue wheel tells them to without thinking about the issues for themselves.

I didn't even know who Wreav was until after finishing ME3 and reading something on here O_o Apparently someone takes over for Legion if he's dead, as well?

Yes. A Geth "V.I. Replica." Basically a copy of Legion with a holographic chestplate.

Sure, why not cure the Genophage? Eve gave me faith in Kroganity. And think of all the over-excessive sex the Krogan are having just to breed. Now they can be normal.

I had a similar feeling. Aside from loyalty to Wrex and wanting to bring closure to the Salarians' nonsense, I cured it because any potential threat the Krogan may present in the future is utterly meaningless next to the reaper threat, and the Primarch was right when he said that it's better to have a grateful ally than a resentful enemy. Imagine sabotaging the cure, but then the surviving Krogan adapt to the modified genophage AGAIN after the reapers are gone.

Funny thing is that the other species have their fair share of baddies that caused a great deal of damage in galactic affairs. The Krogan were pawns of the Salarians, who were in the process of using Yagh and varren as weapons if you listen to the logs on Sur'Kesh. If anything, the Salarians were a bigger problem.

I have decent faith in it with Wrex leading the way, and Eve to keep him honest. Also helped that Mordin believed in it, too.

Anything short of that, I pull the trigger. Wreav is hopeless. Wrex is good, but not incorruptible, IMO.

I just can not accept killing a entire race off because that is what the genophage will do because of the low birth rate they will go instinct and not all krogan are ruthless savage monsters or not bad grunt and wrex have already proved this

If your not going to give the Krogan a chance why not go all the way to commit full genocide? Since its the belief they can never change.

Because they are more useful being expended as cannnon fodder against the Reapers. Between the decimation of their numbers and no cure they are doomed post war.

Their natural birth rate is untenable.

Probably true. The question is, what gives Salarians the right to decide how to deal with that?

The will, power and means to do so; like anything else.

I would not cure the genophage outside the context of the Reaper invasion.  Preventing future krogan rebellions is pretty pointless if everyone is already dead from the Reapers.

I think the only way a genophage cure could work is if krogan are specifically limited to harsh planets like Tuchanka which naturally limit their reproduction to manageable numbers.  This is the kind of envrionment they evolved in.  Introducing them to less hostile environments is like introducing fire ants to the US or rabbits to Australia.  They overwhelm the local ecosystem because that ecosystem has no defenses against them.  The problem is that they want to live in easy to colonize garden worlds the same as everyone else.  However, the Council races do have one advantage here in that the krogan have been heavily dimilitarized.   As EDI points out, they must rely on turian ships and resources in the fight against the Reapers because they don't have ships and resources of their own.  Without Council assistance, they aren't going anywhere.  Tuchanka naturally checks their reproduction even without the genophage and without the ships and infrastructure to colonize more habitable worlds, they cannot support the kind of population explosion that would pose a serious threat to the Council.  Wrex may not like it, but he currently needs the Council, and if the Council proceeds with krogan development slowly and selectively by giving them only suitable planets and limiting their military capacity and infrastructure compared to the rest of the galaxy, it could work.

All that being said, it seems that sooner or later the Council would succomb to pressure and give them planets they can colonize easily or else soften the limits on their military.  Unless enough time had elaspse for some radical and widespread krogan cultural changes, this would spell disaster.  This is why I wouldn't support a genophage cure.  I would however support more assistance for krogan in the form of limited colonization rights (in this case possible to non horrible planets since their unchecked reproduction isn't an issue), fertility treatments, infrastructure development and the like.  If they would accept such overtures, that is.  Just because they have the genophage doesn't mean they have to lie rotting in a pile of radioactive rubble constantly killing each other.

If I had known the most ideal fate of the Krogan depended on Wrex and Eve, I'd cure it. Unfortunately Wrex died in my story. Maybe if I used a strategy guide and Mary Sued my way through the galaxy, the Krogan would be OK.

Anyways...Kind of sad that the most ideal solution would depend on a couple of people - that's the Krogan's fault though, if they can't be as collectively cool as Wrex and Eve on their own. That they need that much leadership. Otherwise they don't deserve any help, as far as I'm concerned. Tuchanka infuriates me a little. It's not about Krogan really. It's a metaphor for how earth could go, if we succumb to warmongering and end up radiating our planet. Krogan's are so warped at this point that they TAKE PRIDE in it. They actually hate their planet, and their planet hates them. That is profound as hell. I think Wreav said that. They are so lost that the only way out is for them to forge themselves by embracing this ugliness for all it's worth.

And in this case, if they are going to forge themselves this way, then the best thing to do is keep them the hell away from everyone else. Want to be retards? Great, do it on your own time. Knock yourselves out.. destroy yourselves and your planet. Just stay away from everyone else. I would not find it desirable if they had an explosion in power and population growth. And then started hurtling asteroids at people again. If I had a chance to keep a society like this more or less isolated from others, I would. Salarians are guilty too for uplifting them in the first place, but that's for another thread.

I would develop a cure that krogan must apply to get.

For example. If a krogan is an old battle warrior who's still hateful towards everything, then of course I'm not going to prescribe him the cure.

Now, take a krogan like Charr. Obviously a stable and sophisticated krogan. Of course I'll prescribe him the cure, so that he could father more krogan like himself.
