Probably the latter. They should atleast say whether or not they're looking into it.

Agreed.  And it's odd they haven't, seeing as it's a major issue.  They've made statements that they're looking into lots of things.  Some have been fixed, while others haven't.  But at least it gives people a sense that eventually it will be fixed.

I don't think people will be able to wrap their heads around this. Maybe a better analogy would be if you went to the fishmonger and expected him to fix your computer.

How about calling the electric company about your phone bill? :bandit:

I think that banning won't solve the problem. It's rampant on 360 right now, I don't know about PS3 and it isn't possible to replicate on PC like it is on console. Due to the fact that most players don't frequent the forums, they won't ever know that they can be banned for repeated use of this glitch.

Yea, this is true. Most of the people I message doing the glitch have no idea that there are consequences from performing the glitch.
Maybe during the loading screens add one of the tips that appears to be "Exploiting the game to your own benefit will earn you a ban, and cheating is not tolerated" or something along those lines?
Also, just throwing in my stake here, I heard from multiple people using the glitch saying that BioWare can't fix this because it's a connection issue. Although I don't believe that to be entirely true, but just putting that here.

The only reason people are getting banned is because they're making easy credits which they can then use to replace real money they'd pay for gear. Cheap gear is a nono in me3.

They should fix it and stop banning people. And I'm playing on pc btw so no, I'm not rocket bugging or w/e.

Amen.

Then they're deluding themselves.

Seriously. This is exactly what the glitch crowd has said every time they find something, no matter the game.
Modern Warfare 2 and the Javelin glitch?
"Oh I didn't know I could be banned for it!"
Halo Reach and the permanent Armor Lock glitch?
"Oh I didn't know I could be banned for it!"

Also, just throwing in my stake here, I heard from multiple people using the glitch saying that BioWare can't fix this because it's a connection issue. Although I don't believe that to be entirely true, but just putting that here.

Those people are absolutely full of it. The reason that BioWare has not fixed it yet is a simple one.

It is not a simple fix. It is something which is going to require an overhaul of netcode, ability priorities, and all sorts of goodies to ensure that they do not break something important while keeping these little kiddies from getting their "Lulz missile gun!" jollies.

Here's two more idea's for you guys.

If it was easy to fix, it probably wouldnt be broken in the first place.

The other is that fixing any type of bug or glitch tends to involve a huge amount of trial and error, to both replicate and then eliminate line by agonising line of code looking for both the key causes (Not always an individual problem, but several scattered throughout the code) and ways to fix it without breaking other things (who knew altering code could have a domino effect, right guys?)

And a lot of you want to add a "Reporting to the userbase what you've done today to try fix it" step to that process. Yeah, that totally wont create a huge amount of extra work on top of the bug they're trying to iron out. They say 'We're looking into it" because it communicates they're looking into it without being a huge hassle of pointless 'We did this and it didnt work, back to the drawing board' pointlessness. Not to mention unless its an open source game, they kind of dont want to tell you what they're doing to fix it, because, money.

Not knowing you can be punished for something doesn't make it okay, obviously. Ignorance has never meant innocence. I still wish they'd make an announcement screen, though, if only to scare some of the twits from actually doing it.

Being on many forums for different games I wouldn't be surprised if they don't post till they found the answer. These companies don't like to admit their flaws.

The point is that it's a little disingenuous to put the onus of not using something that is in the game on the players. If it's in the game, it's in the game.

We're gonna' have to disagree on this one.

It is OBVIOUSLY cheating. I can think of no half-minded twit who would actually look at the Missile Glitch and think to themself "HMM, THIS IS A LEGITIMATE STRATEGY INCLUDED AS PART OF THE GAME". This is not how the game is intended to be played, and anybody who uses this glitch purposely knows they are abusing a bug. And I repeat myself again-- abusing bugs has always been a punishable offense in any online multiplayer game, for as long as I've been playing multiplayer games online ( before UT99 ). It's not new. "Being in the game" doesn't make it okay.

It's disingenuous of the players themselves to use it in the first place. It's most certainly not disingenuous of Bioware to punish them, just as they said they would in the ToS, and just as every game company before them has done. If people don't like it, they should either A) Not cheat, or B) Not play games online.

Sure it might not be a legitimate way, but it a way nonetheless. Many games have glitches and many of their coders fix these as fast as possible why can't BioWare? Instead of fueling banwaves every month? why not use that time to actually find the issue and remove it. You find banning people justifiable, fine, but I find them fixing the issue a greater cause in the long run.

Please provide proof of your bolded statement about BioWare.
Also, the link in my signature has a thread where some of the mods/staff talk about patches and updates.

You can't just leave...it means you wasted supplies. They should ban as many as possible as fast as possible. They should also fix it as soon as they can. If I could I'd personally hand the biggest baddest ban hammer I could to BW.

Are you serious? He asked a question. I've been a software engineer a long long time, and a gamer longer than that. He's very right a lot of games have glitches. I also think BW is comitting suicide by not fixing important issues before they alienate too many people.

As someone who has a background in computer games programming... it's not that easy. You can't just slap a plaster on it, or automatically skip to the affected line of code, change one digit, and have everything working again. What may fix this glitch could have consequences which then need to be explored in more depth. Sometimes it's difficult to even identify the problem, let alone fix it. It's silly - and dare I say, idiotic - to think that Bioware can't be bothered to fix it, or they CAN fix it and just choose not to.

I've actually approached them about some network issues which greatly contribute to this. I know it is not easy, but they have had a long time to address this...fix or no fix, they produce the appearance of not working on it. I know enough about it to say they have a starting point. My guess is that in part developers are not free to fix what they want to fix, and that management drives their priorities. I am blaming their management for not understanding their own industry. I do also have a business degree in addition to the CS degree, and have watched this sort of failure too many times.

Apparently 'my job is sometimes hard' is a valid excuse for being terrible at it. It's the American Way.

I'm wondering if these kids are complete doormats in the real world, too.

So you go to the drycleaners to pick up a garment, and it's still got a giant stain on it.

'Well, sir, I scrubbed at it for a few minutes with some water and my shoe. It REALLY didn't want to come out!'

'Oh geez, you poor soul. Here's a large tip.'

And I imagine a lot of these other kids ( oh hurr hurr now everybody is children ) are the cliche "entitled customers" who like to think they know better about the work than the people doing it.

"What? What do you MEAN you can't turn the man around in the photograph and make him FACE the camera? I thought you knew how to use Photoshop!"

"What? What do you MEAN this glitch isn't easy to fix? I thought you knew how to fix bugs!"

Right, because a programmer making code work properly is exactly like that.

I tried to make a similar point earlier in the thread. I've yet to see anyone from BioWare come out & apologise for the issue. I know people have used the arguement that the multi-player is a free add on, however I beg to differ. I paid my money for both single player & multi-player, also thrown some money at a couple of Spectre Packs when I first started. I think for that I should be allowed play the game with others (I don't do solo, nor should I have to) free of glitches.

I think at the least we should get some sort of acknowledgement from BioWare that they are aware of the issue, they're working on fixing it & they're sorry for the inconvenience. It's so simple to put a post up on the Forums stating all this, lock it so it stays at the top & it will mean a lot, giving us peace of mind that it is being look at as a priority. Silence is never a good sign
