I want to try and mess around with the normal eyes that appear on most
humanoid characters. I would imagine the texture file for the lot is
the same. I just want to play around with it and see if I can't soften
them up.

I managed to find pn_eye_nrma_0d.dds and can mess
around with the whites of the eyes using that file, however it seems
that the texture for the iris comes from elsewhere at least in part (
altering the pupils+iris in that file does provide some change but not
enough ). Surely not from the files that define the eyecolor? Of course
I have no idea how exactly the texture for the eyes is achieved but I'm
working on the assumption that it's a texture file hidden somewhere and
the eyecolors ( tints ) are an overlay of color on top of the texture
file. If I'm wrong then alas, I'll have to settle with the
pn_eye_nrma_0d.dds file.

Help appriciated here :)

Also to clarify, it's not the color of the eye I want to alter. I want to alter the texture.

I can't give you a complete answer, but here's what I've figured out so far.

The file pn_eye_nrma_0d.dds is the base texture (and that's all you see if you've got your graphics detail set to low). The iris texture comes from pn_eye_nrma_0t.dds--not directly, but transformed somehow and with the eye color tint applied. If you open pn_eye_nrma_0t.dds in GIMP (a free Photoshop-like image editor), it will at first appear to be a plain, transparent image. However, if you use the "Decode YCoCg" filter, it changes to something very similar to the iris texture seen in-game.

I hope that's helpful. Good luck.

Thank you very much! I'll have to snoop around to see what this is :)
