I found Cullen to be a tragic character, and girls are SUCKERS for tragic unrequited love stories. It's not hard to see why he struck a chord with ladies. I just wanted a chance to redeem him after saving the mages, rather than just leaving him to his PTSD and eventually going postal. Poor Cullen.

On the subject of Cullen--



I really liked Cullen pre-Broken Circle. I fully admit that after that, he's nuts, but... the poor guy kind of goes through a lot. I wouldn't necessarily want a full romance, but I would have liked a little more ability to flirt.



Really, I'd have liked that in all the Origins. Let us build more of a relationship in them (for instance, let us really connect to Tamlen in the Dalish origin or the like) much like Dairren and Iona in the Human Noble origin. I think it's a lot more poignant to be able to get more involved with them during the Origin so that when you get pulled away from the Origin and/or something happens to them, you feel the loss that much more.
