Probably because Cullen is otherwise unobtainable? If Cullen was a romance option / one night stand option like Cammen he probably wouldn't have nearly the love he does. However, his fruit is forbidden and therefore more "sweet".

Cullen... red/bronze hair, having a crush on your character...him being a templar, yourself being a mage...
..at least he got a more realistic ending. My head would have met the desk a few times if he was romanceable. That would be just... ouch... no... there's to much Twilight around anyway, I don't need it in DA:O as well...

Riker: Yeah, sure, I could get in on that.
Picard: All right, here it comes. COMMANDER WORF'S HEAD LOOKS LIKE A FANNY!
(Laughing)
Worf: You can all suck my ridges!
Picard: Oh, get a sense of humour, Rocky Dennis.

I found Cullen to be a tragic character, and girls are SUCKERS for tragic unrequited love stories. It's not hard to see why he struck a chord with ladies. I just wanted a chance to redeem him after saving the mages, rather than just leaving him to his PTSD and eventually going postal. Poor Cullen.
Makes me wonder why the Cousland storyline is so popular with the Alistair fans (or at least, seems to be) then; 5 tragic love stories (6 if you count both elf and human mage origins seperately).
Rule #35 has already been invoked. Rule #34 due at unknown date.ReubenLiew wrote...
All we need now is for the Japanese
people to get their hands on this game and we'll start seeing the
proper implementation of Rule 34.

It's because it's the only origin in which you can get married to Alistair and be his queen.

*frowns*
It's easy. It's the other half. Besides, 2 love stories >> 1 love story. You know that, right? I guess the tragic is just elsewhere too btw.

Then I remember I'm not on 4chan, so I realise you're probably not.
I was quoting that passage in my original post because it talks about how lovely a tragic lovestory, doomed from the start to end with at least one of the characters broken hearted (in this case Cullen) is. Yet most people either 'don't let' (for lack of a better phrase) Alistair become king if they're not human, or just play the Cousland origin. It's simply striking me as if it's okay for someone to get dumped/unrequited love/a fling so long as your character isn't the one who gets it done to them.

We girls of the Swooping is Bad Community
would hereby like to request more Cullen!
We feel we've exhausted
our current *squees* at his expense in game and would therefore like to
put in a formal request for DLC of any of the following:
Cullen
sneaking in our tent and smelling our hair.
Cullen stalking us
throughout the campaign.
Cullen as a romanceable character (we're
confident in your skills to let you figure out how, but some suggestions
might be Lyrium and box moving).
Please see more comments below
for our other suggestions.
And we thank you ahead of time!
