Games that are popular that you absolutely hate

I do dislike Halo though. For the life of me I could never bother to finish any of the campaigns. (I blame the noisy midget aliens) but beyond that it just never had an appeal for me. I'm not quite sure why it was so popular other than its importance in being one of the first online console games to be a hit. The best thing to come out of the series is Red vs Blue.

This game made me feel more like I wasted my money than ME3 did pre-ec, and that's saying something for the first 2 hours of an RPG.

Whoa mind is blown!!! she's the reason to play them!
The excellent puzzles, co-op and map editor aren't good enough reason?
Mass Effect 1-3. ME1/2 are enjoyable yea but by no means great.
Dragon Age: Origins fun game but nothing special and no way in hell comparable to Baldur's Gate
Grand Theft Auto 4 not as fun as San Andreas and what the hell is the point of 4 kinds of DRM?
Battlefield 3 it's pretty much Call of Duty 2142 is the best still!
Fallout 3 one of the worst games I've ever bought.
Final Fantasy 13 what a piece of crap

Bronson was the best Bond!

The puzzles can only get you so far. And the first game has no co-op or map editor.
So thats just puzzles than?
No thanks without the wonderful humor Portal would be subpar at best.

Well yea 1 is short but whoever mentioned it said Portal 1/2 not just one. The humor ofcourse adds to the game Portal 2 is one of the funniest games I've ever played along with Psychonauts.
On PC Portal 2 shines with it's SDK and soon custom co-op maps!

Yeah I'm aware of that. I haven't played Portal since before all that was planned. Only time will tell if its as awesome as it sounds. I'm going to put it back on to give it another whirl.
Either way its hard to sell these games to someone who isn't feeling the humor. Especially if they find GLADoS annoying.

I wouldn't think so. "Hardcore FF fans" seem to hate Final Fantasy 12 and come on have you seen Ghost Lighting's love for all things FF13?

Well, I use to enjoy the franchise very much. I've hated it since FFX. SE is basically dead to me and they'll never rekindle the old magic of Square. FFXIII was awful. FFXII was too. Everything since FFX-2 is awful for the franchise. They have no emotion in their games anymore. Lost Odyssey on 360 is more FF than any FF game has been recently...
And that was made by the FF father...
But I don't typically enjoy JRPGs anymore. It has to be a very special JRPG. Like Dark Souls/Demon's Souls(if you even consider that a JRPG) or the Persona franchise. Japan just took a massive nosedive this gen with game development. They're so far behind the rest of the world right now. Still haven't played Dragon's Dogma though.

Every single jRPG. No comments.
Games ... erm, I mean interactive movies with QTEs gameplay (Fahrenheit Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain, The Walking Dead etc.)
Planescape Torment. Great mechanics (D&D) but the story ... let's just say heavy philosophical themes are not my cup of tea.
Fallout 1/2. Post apocalyptic setting which I hate + its SPECIAL mechanics is based on my least liked PnP RPG system - GURPS.
Deus Ex - jeeez this game for me was so boring I couldn't even finish it. On the other hand Deus Ex Invisible Wars is one of my favourite games - much much better than the first one.

That's why your interest level in a game should be between "don't care" and "it looks alright". Less chance of disappointment that way.Matchy Pointy wrote...
The Witcher 2, it was so incredibly overhyped that it lead to one of my biggest gaming dissapointments. The second coming of RPGs? Hell no.

Mass Effect 3 - Hate is a strong word, and that's why I'll use it here. I HATE this game. The gameplay was pretty annoying to me, there were way too many grenades flying around. The story was laughable, character interactions were pretty miserable, and the last time I wanted to kill an ally as much as I wanted to with Vega was that damn dog from Duck Hunt! Even with all this, I would have still said it were a good game, if not for 1 simple thing...which I'll talk about...
Mass Effect 2 - Promise. I'm not talking about the promises BioWare gave us (and lied), I'm talking about the promise that it failed to live up to. Mass Effect 1 was an amazing experience. It's up there with my favorite games of all time because of the promise the series had. Exploration, dialog, a way to be the hero that YOU wanted to be. Mass Effect 2 lost this. You could no longer be Renegade or Paragon, you were shoehorned into an awkward place in between. ME3 just continued this precident...to the point where you couldn't even talk to anybody anymore.
Skyward Sword - had soooo much potential. Were it not for motion controls, I probably would have loved it. My only hope is that some day, they'll remake it without the damn wiimote.
Call of Duty - I hate it because of the juggernaut it has become. The games are alright...but they are ruining the industry, because now every franchise thinks they have to become it (see Battlefield 3 and Splinter Cell Blacklist)
World of Warcraft - because it killed the Warcraft series. They blatantly ripped off other franchises and gave no credit whatsoever to their sources. Hell, the damn map of the world is ripped off from a Dune novel.

Why would I play a game I don't care about?
"eh it looks alright" Isn't enough to get me to buy it.
Jaded mentality like that = I'm done playing games.

Oblivion - Never enjoyed this game at all. Starting off in the sewers...I got annoyed pretty quickly. I never really understood why I should care about this world or any of the people in it. I like Skyrim better...but It suffers from the simple flaw that I can't ask people anything. It breaks the RPG elements for me when I can't ask enough questions.

As someone else noted, all the JRPG's; high rated, yet I absolutely haven't liked a single one of them. Final Fantasy for instance.
Resident Evil; don't like the genre (well; Eternal Darkness on the GDC was a great game of the genre)

Assassins Creed. What the hell is fun about that game? All the assassinations are the same; stab him in the back, run to a roof, fall into a pile of hay and the retarded guards do nothing.
That was one of the main complaints regarding the game, and was fixed significantly in the sequel(s). I was more interested in the original for a couple of reasons. The platforming was far more realistic than the artificially added poles and whatnot seen in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. You could grapple on a genuine window pane or whatnot. The story certainly has a unique flavor. I eventually stopped playing the series after the 2nd, but I really dug the first.
