At first I thought the paladin was crap, but now I'm loving him. You guys need to try the N7 paladin with all possible melee upgrades against cerberus on gold(or silver or bronze if you play that), it's really funny and it actually works. With the right specs you can one shot troopers and 1 shot every trooper unit except phantoms with ED + light melee. Phantoms are a bit more tricky but really not hard to kill as the light melee stuns them and it's really fast to follow up with another light melee.

The build:
ED 6: damage/drain/either one works, I like armor boost
Incinerate 0
Snap freeze 6: range/cryo explosion/armor weakening
Paladin 6: power damage/power damage/weapon damage
Fitness 6: melee, shield strength, cryo shield.

Don't take fire shield if you want to melee, cryo shield seems to do more damage for some reason, or they do the same damage but fire shield does some of it's damage over time but sometimes it seems to do lower damage. Anyway fire shield is bad for this so go with cryo.

Weapons: whatever you want but make sure to take something with a melee attachment. I like the piranha but taking something like a falcon with a bayonet would make killing phantoms easier, at the cost of being bad vs atlases.

Equipment: berserker package or hydraulic joints, strength enhancer 3. Cyclonic modulators are very nice but not mandatory, strength enhancer is though.

Try it out guys, it's a lot of fun on anything lower than platinum, it works pretty well too, his light melee is great and really fast, and it's aoe. I meleed 3 phantoms back to back on glacier, one of the most fun things I've done on this game in a while.

I'll have to give it a try when I get back home.  It seems conspicuous that you don't mention Platinum though.

Clearly this is the Captain America build. Now if only he could throw his shield.

Can confirm this is fun as hell. I do gold geth on glacier, but with fire shield. ED, freeze, and for fast double tap melee, deploy shield ( which does damage and adds the shield effect ) then melee, you can get off two melees in the space it takes for one. Is tremendous fun. .... if only they made the shield a little wider. Also, you can hit up to 3 enemies if they're close enough. And the tech bursts and fire explosions and all that stuff happening from your shield, or two other abilities, too much fun.

I do geth because I like gaining shields back off every enemy, along with the stun

I didn't mention it for a reason, his melee is not powerful enough to be very effective on platinum and I wouldn't play him like a melee character on that, but on gold it's quite strong. 2 shots phantoms if you ED as well, 1 shots most other cerb units.

Weapon-based Paladin is more powerful, but the Paladin's melee is indeed tons of fun whether or not you spec for it.
Especially since you can ragdoll toss unprotected enemies.  Such as - energy draining a Hunter in the tower on Dagger, and then hitting him with Cryo Shield to send his frozen body out the window and into the courtyard.

Sounds like a lot of fun, actually. I'd love to try it. Now if only I would get the N7 Paladin...

I do this with a fire shield and get results I like.

But yes I run the same Shield Mastery build.

Bashing faces in is fun.

I kind of do both. if I play reapers for example I ditch the melee tactics and go for weapon amps instead, and I do have him specced for weapon damage on rank 6. If I wanna play him in platinum I'll just use a piranha and go max weapon damage again, the only thing that is actually melee oriented with the build itself is the rank 4 in fitness.

Going melee against cerberus is too much fun though. And in terms of effectiveness it' really not that bad. Certainly faster at killing than krogans or batarians for example.

I use the Paladin in Platinum pretty often. Can backhand phantoms just fine there too.

Also that shield is nice for tanking prime/ravager shots.

Guess I chose poorly.

Are there some kind of tricks I should know? The best I can do is run up right in front of someone, melee, and hope they die. It's not like a krogan where i can just keep ramming into them...the enemies move back when melee'd, and this guy doesn't move forward at all.

Also, is there any strategy to the shield? Sometimes I seem invincible, sometimes it barely blocks anything.

*Shhhh*

I was enjoying the steady stream of nonsensical hate threads on the class, bro. Haters don't deserve the unbridled swank CQC Paladin brings to any squad lucky enough to have him.

Don't have the pally yet, but was playing my Krogan sentinel today, as melee, w/a Paladin. I'm pretty good with Krogan melee, but the Pally was far far better. Embarassingly so.

I like doing this on my paladin too. The clank noise it makes is quite hillariouis. Watching the frzoen bodies get bounced around is entertaining.

I'm currently using a very similar version of the build mentioned by the OP:

http://narida.pytalh...35PDQIP`9@9EE@@

Snap Freezing through walls to stagger and mess with enemies + slapping things around with the cryo shield + shooting the crap out of things with the N7 Piranha usually kills things outright. Slap on AP or Warp Ammo and proceed to lol at how fast stuff like banshees, atlas and primes die when you debuff them with a melee smack + snap freeze.

It...it's so beautiful... :crying:

Seems the mods didn't carry over. Smart Choke + Barrel.

Energy drain or snap freeze before meleeing. If the first melee doesn't kill them which it usually does, slap them again. My tactica is pretty much to run up in their face and ed or snap freeze then melee and repeat untill everything is dead.

With the right mods and equipment 1 energy drain + 1 melee usually kills. Against certain units you may have to slap twice or fire a shot but the melee is very fast and staggers so it's not really a problem.

I run a Gold melee Paladin. It does not work on Platinum. In before someone claims to wreck the scoreboard shield bashing on Platinum, lol. Just like someoen told me yesterday that I am doing it wrong with Slayer melee on Platinum and you can kick ass there too...:D
