The N7 Typhoon. A little too good?

So, I've been buying Spectre Packs like crazy lately. I have the Ultra Rare N7 Typhoon at level 7 now. Its an amazing weapon. I use it frequently in Silver games with the lvl 5 Extended Magazine and lvl 5 Stability Dampener. I also use lvl 3 or lvl 4 Armor Piercing Ammo with it, as well. The gun just shreds everything it hits. It takes down Atlases faster than the Reegar Carbine with the Shredder Mod. It does the same to Banshees, Phantoms, and Geth Primes. It almost seems unfair to use this weapon. Granted, I'm extremely happy that there is finally an Assault Rifle worth a darn. Although, I'd hardly call it an Assault Rifle. Its really a Light Machine Gun. I tell everybody to use it if they get the chance. Even at level 2 it was a beast. I'm almost afraid to see how good it is at level 10, when I eventually get it there.

Anybody else have any comments on the N7 Typhoon? Is it too good or just right? I like it the way it is and hope they don't change it. However, I know the "nerf everything" crowd probably adamantly thinks otherwise.

Thanks,
-Matt C.-

No. It sucks. Real bad. SO BAD. The gun doesn't do damage. I'd rather use my eagle. That RoF increase? sucks.

Everything shreds in Silver. It's a great weapon, and definitely top tier, but it isn't overpowered.

Why take AP ammo? It already has penetration.

It's the heaviest assault rifle in the game. Only a few characters can really use it without running a serious power penalty. I'd say it's very balanced.

Haven't even touched it. I can't even get the thing... It'll be the falcon thing all over again... I'll get in a package when it's nerfed.:crying:

I hope to get one soon.

First off...it's a UR, it's SUPPOSED to be powerful. In fact, the only assault rifles worth a darn are UR.

HOWEVER, the Typhoon is very, very heavy, and unless you're playing a class that can take hits, sometimes it's hard to stay out of cover long enough to destroy just about everything. It's a great gun, but I still prefer the Sabre.

It's probably a bit too strong; at least compared to other AR's that aren't the Harrier. It actually has several variables / special mechanics built into the gun that, when combined, make the gun extremely powerful. Things like:

- It has a spool-up RoF. This is not a new mechanic, but it combines with...
- It has a heat up damage variable, similar to the Particle Rifle. It's only x2 damage compared to the PR's x4, but takes only 0.75 seconds to achieve the bonus, compared to the PR's 2 seconds.
- It has a BRAND NEW variable that caps the effect of damage reduction on the gun at 50%. This means the gun can never be reduced below 50% damage. This is likely the biggest reason the gun is so powerful, particularly against bosses.

Obviously a powerful weapon. Too powerful? Maybe, but I'm sure some people will make the argument that "It's an UR, it should be over-powered!!". Personally, I disagree; while it should have some advantages compared to other guns, it should not clearly invalidate close to 50% of the other weapons in its class.

I actually used th GPR today on the destroyer, and it's better than the typhoon.

The gun isn't all that great.

In fact, it could use a buff or two.

Dude the typhoon is utter crap! Needs to be buffed I think.

Now the geth pulse rifle on the other hand, way too OP! Needs a nerf or two..

Dude I literally lit up an entire spawn with incedinary ammo on the GPR...they may as well just let us skip to wave 10. I had like 171 bullets or something...IN ONE CLIP. ONE CLIP. That gun is crazy OP.

Except for the fact that at least 50% of the weapons in its class are ****? It's a pretty well known fact that the Assault Rifles in ME3 are dreadful poses, with a few exceptions.

Words cannot express the intensity of my loathing for this stupid, daft lump of iron so inappropriately called "Typhoon". I'd rather use a Locust I.

Don't talk like that OP, we don't take kindly to nerfin' round here. I know you didn't say that, but a Bioware employee could see the title and start gettin' ideas. We don't want that.

We want to keep the Typhoon as is. It's one of a few actual GOOD guns in the game.

Putting level 3 or 4 AP ammo on most any weapon will wreck Silver enemies.

The Typhoon isn't a little too good.  It's the other assault rifles that need to be a little better.  I'm pretty sure Bioware's balance team agrees, since they've given assault rifles 27 buffs since launch (vs. just 6 nerfs, half of which were to the Falcon).

Yeah, I hate the nerf everything crowd.  Their filthiest tactic is to make threads about how what they want nerfed is too good and then saying they hope it isn't nerfed even though they just put the idea out there for no particular reason.

Huh... why does that sound familiar?

No it's fine, seeing as it is a UR it should be good at a high level, it's at best mediocre at lower levels though, but I'm sure it's a lot better on a Destroyer, which I don't have.

Also, the GPR is sooo much lighter. Seriously. There is just no competition. The GOR can headshot across the map and has no recoil....I cant even express my distatse for bioware putting such an OP gunu in the game. and it's not even UR?

Unfair to use it on Silver? Hit the nail on the head there. Its a UR, its HEAVY, staggered rate of fire (irrelevant unless getting shot at the moment you pop out of cover, like on GOLD+) It mows down Silver, because Silver is on the easier side of things. If you have a Typhoon VII, go to Platinum, then tell me if it is OP or not.

It is definitely top-tier, it is very good, but it has a lot working against it on HIGHER difficulties, too.
Let it rest. I do not want this nerfed.

Agreed; ARs as a general weapon class still need improvements.  While the Typhoon is quite powerful (by comparison), perhaps it's being used as a model by the devs to test mechanics meant to improve all ARs in ther future?

I can't say it's overpowered, the gun is really heavy and it's better used with classes who can take a punch or two. I don't relly on it too much, and if ambushed by geth hunter on gold im practically screwed because of the stunlocks i can't shoot back with that ROF.Posted Image
