I've been WoW clean for 8 months now... prior to that I played for just under 4 years. Think about all that money spent... makes me sad.

I played before WoTKL, had 2 raiding 70ies, I was GM and raid leader. My (small and 25+) guild finished ZA last thing before I got totally sick of that game.
And yes, I say the game is easy. You dont have to use much brains to play it or have some decent hand-eye coordination. That is why millions play it imo, it is not as half as frustrating and demanding as some other games.
So no Mt Hyjal, Black Temple or Sunwell?
Do any arena?
No. Once you decide WoW raiding is goddamn irritating thing you dont torture yourself with next tier raiding to try and prove yourself wrong. I quit instead. I dont see a game like a marriage I have to try and save, once I conclude its not worth my time its game over.
No PvP either, I dont care to PvP with people I cant communicate with. Besides I find PvP in WoW pretty pointless. You PvP to get gear so you can PvP in next bracket so you can get even better gear.... but why PvP at all in first place? Not like any of them bothered me so I jumped on them for a reason.
I PvP in some other MMOs that gave me a solid reason for it, plus I made some really good friends that way and got some decent roleplaying values from messing with "opposite side". For me, WoW is just so.... futile.
Now I got a question for you - did you ever seriously play any other MMO but WoW?

Oh, whatever. Do you know what my Mage did in vanilla raiding? He spammed one of four spells, depending on the encounter. Frostbolt for single-target bosses, Blizzard for AoE, Remove Lesser Curse for any fight with a curse (actually, an addon did all the work for me), and Polymorph for, well, Domo. That's it. That was the entirety of Mage PvE. Now, I'm casting anywhere from 7-10 spells in every encounter and kicking ass while doing it. And, I have three viable specs to choose from! Good luck with "choice" in vanilla.
Omg even 7 spells, yeah you must be the biggest kick-ass in entire gaming world ever.
I actually prefer the taste of vanilla over any other, well maybe strawberry...

I don't know... $50 for WoW, $40 for TBC, $70 for Wrath CE. That's $160 for the software.
I've been playing since the end of August '05, so let's just start with September. I had one free month, then one month free for inviting a friend, then one month free for bringing an old player back. That's puts us in December. I've received approximately one month's worth of free playtime as compensation for servers being down, etc. That puts us in January '06.
At a rate of $14/month (I pay in 3-month cycles), that's $168 for 2006, $168 for 2007, $168 for 2008, and $168 for 2009.
In total, I've spent ~$832 over 4.25 years. That's $195.76/year. It's really not all that bad! My main character has about 150 days of playtime (I didn't play much during the second half of TBC because I was busy finishing my undergraduate work). That's 3600 hours for $832 hours, or 23 cents an hour. I'm not even considering time spent on other characters, which is easily more than another 50 days.
That's a damn good value, in my opinion.

You jump into conclusions too much.
1) I am not a guy
2) I dont play DA:O only

1. Lies, girls don't play games.
2. Lies, bioware only lets anyone play Dragon age origins, ever. Otherwise David Gaider pulls a skellimancer on you.

If you want a more serious MMO, Lord of the Rings Online is good. I played it for about six months, but never got a character to high level. The lore is great and it has a nice overarching story, more like a traditional RPG. I quit because the game was too serious and the quests started getting repetitive. Maybe the years I spent playing WoW and before that Dark Age of Camelot has ruined me for any other traditional MMO. They all seem to have the same quests, just dressed up a little diffently with their own stories.
I played Warhammer Online for a few months shortly after its launch. It had the best PvP by far. However, the technical issues with lag and disconnects was too much to overcome. Also, at lower levels there were never enough people on my server to complete the group quests. I ended up feeling I was missing out on a big part of the game.
I miss the never ending connection you have with your character in MMO's, but don't know if I could go back to playing one. I recommend you just try the free trials with each MMO and experience them for yourself. I'm looking forward to reading reviews of the new Star Wars MMO after it comes out, but other than that will probably just keep playing DA:O for the next few months. I've only finished one play-through, and have a lot more content to explore in this game. I'm also hoping they release a lot of new DLC and expansions that will let me keep my current Wardens.

Plenty of adults (such as myself) play WoW casually with friends and lead normal lives. I raid with my guild maybe 6 hours out of the week, and the rest of my free time is spent doing other things (like DA:O).
WoW is not a drug, it is a game. If you have fun playing the game, it is not a waste of time any more than playing DA:O or any other game.
Those of you who have quit WoW and are now bashing it for whatever reason... who are you trying to convince? Yourselves, it seems.

That said, after playing through DA:O three times, the games it makes ME want to play again are Diablo II and Baldur's Gate series.

I played it from 2005-spring2009 off and on, mostly off... seeing what was new with some patches. The game has become a venue for 4chan kids to troll as they please, without any form of punishment.
Then there's the issue with class balance(that non-existant part of the game), where inbetween patches one class is dominating others in almost every field... while others will be lacking for quite a while. "flavor-of-the-month-itis"
Their new raid has more references to pop culture than watching a 24 hour marathon of some Hollywood entertainment show, well actually... the game itself does. Playing through it after they 'upped' quest experience, I realized Blizzard is only imaginative in the grand scheme of things, but when it comes to individual quests? ...everything is a parody.
And the addiction thing isn't just a scapegoat.. it's real, I was on a vent server one time in a raid(first and last one I ever did) with a young mother screaming at her children(push-to-talk please...) to 'shut up' because she needs to concentrate. Yeah, that's not a sign of severe addiction or anything.
The game is 'fun' but once you play it for a while, it gets very old... the only thing that kept me coming back is that I played for short amounts of time. A vast majority of the people in the game are complete and utter morons, and there is no avoiding them. Your ignore list isn't big enough, believe me.
Also, don't compare single player games to MMO's... You can't cram depth into an MMO and expect everyone to sit through it.
Oh yeah, there are a lot of other really great MMO's out there, but don't get the publicity of the raging dinosaur that is WoW.

I know a woman who called out from work for 5 days in a row because her Ultrasound couldn't find her 6-week old baby. Would you blame the Ultrasound or the doctors for such idiotic behavior? Of course not.
Or maybe you would. Who knows...personal accountability seems to be a dead concept in this day and age.

Just because you knew someone who took playing WoW to an unreasonable extreme doesn't mean the game itself is addictive. Irresponsible people are irresponsible. Impulsive people are impulsive. Yes, a video game might be a catalyst, but ANYTHING is capable of being a catalyst with someone who has poor decision-making skills and lacks self-control.

Exactly.
Personal accountability does seem to be a dead concept, especially among the younger crowd. They always find someone or something to blame for their problems other than themselves. Its pathetic.

I do raid and I takes me a grand total of about 8 or so hours a week. I spend more time in DAO. Having a good guild helps with this.
As for MMOs I played EQ and City of Heroes. One was more grindy (EQ) one was very casual (CoH).
It just strikes me when people say "it was too easy" yet they themselves were unable to do it for whatever reason. Its a bit like someone finishing DAO on easy then going "this game is too easy and its not worth my time going through on higher difficulty levels".
It looks like a bit of a cop out.

I notice that too. Many people who quit WoW seem to have this burning desire to covert others.
"I no longer like the game so neither should you!".
Amazinly I ( like millions of others) manage to balance WoW time and real life responsibilities easily. I even manage to be successful at both. Madness!

I have to say though, at least in DA: O you don't have to worry about little kids raging over Vent when you don't heal them in time.
