Wish me luck. I'm in Kirkwall now, I just recruited Anders, Merrill, and Fenris. I'm loving Nightmare. It's challenging, but really fun. The hardest part  so far was the pre-Kirkwall stuff. It was a whole lot of Bethany running away flinging bolts when she could, especially against the ogre.

Now, though, my warrior-Hawke has come into his own and is starting to really do some damage. It's good that he's the only melee in the party, though. On my mission to recruit Fenris, I kept one-shotting him with Scythe. :(

Good luck! I do quite like Nightmare really. I did it for my first run - until the RockWraith when I dropped it out of impatience and frustration. Remember - 1 melee and 3 ranged is the magic formula for party composition!

4 ranged also works well like archer hawke, anders, merill/bethany and varric/bethany. ^_^

I'm just finishing off my current playthrough on hard (as I haven't played the game in awhile) and I'm coasting

My next playthrough is going to be nightmare with Mage Hawke and a party of Fenris Isabela and Merril. I'm just hoping the patch has made sure that there is no friendly fire on Warrior basic attacks now !

Yup no more FF on warrior basics. Makes them boring party members though if you have another melee party member. They'll be best served with auto-attacking most of the time but don't have berserk

Interesting, I don't want Fenris auto attacking, I'll be looking to see can I get Isabela to target different groups with her tactics. Whether or not it will work is another thing.

If you're ranged and careful about it, you can still have Fenris use his specials.

I'm running Warrior-Hawke, Merrill, Anders, and Varric. Going well so far. Bit nervous about the rock wraith, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it!

2 firestorms while hes doing the whole lightning storm crap works well, even 1 is good. the cold spells help as well.

may want to check my signature

Good luck with the rock wraith, it's a very long fight on nightmare. Moving and positioning is key, ranged dps is really good in this encounter.

It's hard and might take a few tries to learn it, I'd say it's the hardest encounter in the game (harder than the final boss in Legacy).

Rock wraith's down. Six tries, wasn't so bad.

Movin' through act II now.
