Than explain me why Reaper on Rannoch was shooting on Normandy ? It was just a Destroyer from surface which could hit Normandy on the orbit of Rannoch or on the sky ... Yes and HARBRINGER staying few hundreed meeters from Normandy - which was staying til Shepard gave his farewell, he was just watching like an idiot - maybe tears in his 4 eyes from touching moment.

...Harbringer in evac scene wasn´t even shooting guys...

So ya, any more standard handwaves?

By the time Normandy lands, they are already incredibly close to the beam.  If he decides to shoot the Normandy instead, he has to hit the core exactly or it is not going to be your total team kill explosion.  See SR1 vs Collector Ship.  If he doesn't get through the increased shielding and armor and score a critical hit, he fails the Tower Defense and loses the game.  The risk versus reward is clearly not worth it.

First, how can he miss its parked, and its not like Reaper guns dont already total anything they touch.  Second they are in atmosphere, the explosion is going to be big enough to fry anyone outside of the initial explosion anyways.

And how is Harbinger supposed to look at the Normandy and just psychicly know where to aim to hit the Eezo core?  Even with it parked, he doesn't know its exact location.  Secondly, it would not cause an explosion if he hit anything else.  The Reapers fire relativistic molten metal for a weapon.  It is going to shred the ship like a super laser through rice paper but there will be no big explosion unless it hits something that would explode upon being hit like said core.  It makes much more sense to just kill the mooks coming toward your Tower Defense than hope you score a critical hit that wipes out everyone.  What you are advocating could work but it could also fail.  If he fails and a team gets through and guns down the Illusive Troll, he is doomed.  If the Normandy flies away with injured squaddies, he loses nothing.

The core is in the heart of the ship, even if he doesn't know exactly where its not hard to tell. The Normandy is basically a sub with wings attached, I wonder where the engine could be? Plus its still a beam weapon, even if he doesn't know exavctly where its just a matter of swiping up till he cuts it in half.

I think the Reapers have done a good job in ME3 of showing you they can't hit the broad side of a barn swinging the laser around.

because for some stupid reason bioware wanted shep to go it alone and were too lazy to come up with a real reason on the original ending
thought we'll just stick this in to shut fans up even though it's stupid and obvious to everyone and I do mean everyone that the ship would be shot down
not to forget that it was the last push in a live or die trying situation which in no way could be stopped to let team mates go

Easy so the crew can be in the normandy for the planet scene, nothing more,we are not dealing with masters of writing.

Okay, I don't know of this has been posted before, but when the Normandy comes to pick up your squadmates right before you board the Citadel, why is Harbinger just hovering there doing nothing while you, your squadmates and the Normandy are sitting ducks? You are there for more than enough time to get destroyed, and since you don't heard him attacking any more of Hammer team during this sequence, it confuses me more that there is this golden opportunity to destroy the man and the ship that has been a pain in your ass for the last few years and instantly secure a Rweaper victory.

Thoughts?

It's just so video gamey.

Yeah, because we totally saw how Harby sucked at hitting individual soldiers during the conduit run, didn't we? Oh, and that IFF sure came in handy each time I scanned a system too much, right? Because it absolutely never happened that reapers would hunt you in those star systems, right?

Oh wait.

The way I like to fill this plot hole in my own head is that Harbinger wants Shepard to reach the beam for some reason. If the Normandy gets blown out of the sky, Shepard would fall to pieces right then and there: perhaps give up, even? If that happened during my play through I'd just throw the controller down right then.

Several Tendril Thanix weapons, a Main gun, and several Reaper variations of GARDIAN lasers.

Exactly. Shooting down the Normandy while hitting anyone rushing the beam shouldn't be a problem for him.

the normandy shouldn't have been in the situation in the first place, it's just another example of the bad writing

The real reason is they need an excuse to explain why those characters show up at the ending. Theres no real good reason, they just needed any and they choose this one. No matter how poor it is and unlogical, Bioware had to find some way to get them onboard.

This
There is no other logical reason for it.
Harbinger is 2km long warship with weapons powerful enough to destroy Dreadnoughts. One hit would be the end for the Normandy.
From that perspective it´s completely stupid from Shepard to call the Normandy to pick up two guys and risk the lifes of everyone on the Normandy.
Do you guys remember the Grissom Academy where you have to play cat and mouse with a Cerberus Cruiser?
In the Evac scene the Normandy lands in front of a Reaper Capital ship. I dont have to say how stupid that is.

actually this gets worse, in the very first scene on earth, theres a big reaper present, the one that sniped out the shuttle with the catalyst kid look alike on board, but the normandy was just  about an eigth mile away from it and it just ignored the normandy while it hovered there as Shep and others were talking to Anderson, then the reaper ship glided toward the normandy, still the normandy just sat there, while the reaper ship just ignored it for the longest time and was zapping other stuff not even as close. Then the normandy took off, slow glide sight seeing while the reaper ship just playing heck with everything but the normandy.. it was an amazing scene... read sarcasm.

TBH, I think everyone would have an easier time if they rushed to the beam from more than one direction.
