seriously people, what kind of role players are you, to slaughter and entire clan of elves just to make the werewolves your allies ?

the desperate kind who thinks that werewolves are more powerful than elves as allies to fight the darkspawn since those werewolves are seemingly winning?
that and the less than friendly reception by the elves was enough reason for my powerhungry casteless dwarf to wipe them out ...
some hippy elves in the forest blaming me for their problems with humans ... yeah right i will care about those elves and their happy free life when i am fighting a lost battle in the deep roads as a casteless dwarf just to get some recognition amongst my own people ...
or i can try do something about the whole situation, stop the blight by sacrificing some elves and possibly humans instead of dwarves for a change in the process. it  is not a particularly hard decision from that point of view.

Sorry, but there is no way my PC would grant Branka the anvil. Never! The whole setup of the Anvil of the Void part of the quest was highly unsettling for me, and in turn, for my PC. Listening to Branka rant and rave behind her safe wall was too much.

As I've said elsewhere, I was without Internet for over a month, and therefore totally unspoiled. The shocks I received during that part of the play were awesome. What a game. Hespith's rhymes were creeping me out, her words to the PC did the same. When rounding the corner, and seeing the broodmother, I actually jerked away from the keyboard.

Branka's rants tell me that she is far too unstable to be trusted with something like the anvil. She actually talks about encouraging the whole broodmother bid, so she could have access to darkspawn guinea pigs. She speaks about feeding/killing her house because they were trying to leave. She rants against her lover, Hespith, because she too wanted to leave.

Creepy, startling, disturbing are just a few words that come to mind when I remember my first play-through of the Anvil. There was no way my PC would let Branka control the anvil. Never. No internet meant no Shale in my first, but in a subsequent play-through, Shale sided with Caridin. That was good enough for my PC, she likes the golem :)

As far as the surface races go, they better be ready to steadily support the dwarfs. If the dwarfs fall, so will they. Humans and elves alike. Loved that line: "Your nightmare is my everyday."

I also could never bring myself to have my PC slaughter the elves. They were nice enough to her, and quite helpful. The Keeper is the only guilty one, so no 'two wrongs' for my PC. Danyla just about broke my heart. I wish there was a way to save her as well, and return her to her husband. I also got the feeling that the weres wanted to end the curse. I guess hearing it a couple of hundred (I know, exaggerations galore) times gave me that idea.

Actually the hardened Alistair would fight the war with soldiers from houses he didn't trust. That weakens his enemies, which is always good. And so long as he has enemies then the aid to Orzammar continues. If you pick Bhelen to be the dwarf king, who do you think he sends to fight the Blight? Listen to the convos in Orzammar after Bhelen ascends the throne.

Also, Bhelen without golems still manages to expand. Nothing being certain, they may contract after time, but it's somewhat hopeful.

You're thinking short term. There's no way Alistair is going to sustain an indefinite war vs. the darkspawn.
It's just not going to happen, eventually the freeholders and the commoners will simply refuse to send people to die for something they can't see and don't care about.

Bhelen makes small expansions, sure, but in the grand scheme of things it's nothing. With golems it'd be all the easier to take and hold sections of the deep roads.

Branka is a lunatic, and I'd rather there was an option to keep the anvil and toss her into the lava. Alas there isn't.
Caradin though is far too much of a lunatic in the other direction, he lets his guilt cloud his judgement and he condemns the entire dwarven race to extinction for the sake of his own personal catharsis.

Caradin and Branka. They're both idiots, and neither deserve to dictate the fate of the Anvil.

If only there was a way to merge them somehow.

That brings up an interesting question though. Who would you trust the anvil with? Surely neither Bhelen nor Harrowmount are suited for such a great responsibility. As Oghren said to Shale in a conversation, there would be plenty of volunteers, but who could be trusted to make sure it stays on a volunteer basis?

As far as keeping the anvil and tossing Branka into the lava, I heartily agree.

As I've said in other topics, I'd entrust it to the Legion of the Dead and the Grey Wardens jointly, the Legion already sacrifice themselves, thinking of themselves as dead when they join and do so on a strict volunteer basis. Their old fortress is also nearby to the Anvil itself.

If Bhelen/Failomont doesn't like that well they can try opposing the Legion, the Wardens *and* golems at their own peril.

Every action has a consequence. I wiped out the elf clan on behalf of the Werewolves. Travelling through the forest one last time I was confronted by an elf band from that very clan. They asked me "How could you do this?!" And I explain to them exactly what Zathrian did.

The leader of the band was so ashamed she actually gave me a gift.

That said, the Werewolves are just better companions. I love when you ask their camp representative if they need anything like the other armies. He replies, "No, all we need is our claws and teeth. Tend to your other armies, lest they feel... inadequate."

And "You look hungry. Want a nug?" rofl

The elves are just incredibly boring in comparison.

As for the whole anvil of the void bit - meh. Bhelen helps the Dwarves regain old Thaigs without the help of Golems. They have it in them to do so, it'll just be much more difficult. Me, I couldn't give Branka the golems mostly because A) I get a lousy 3 golems in the final battle. and B) If I side against Branka, both her AND Caridin die. So win/win because he's crazy too.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but without Zethrian, the warewolf curse will never be lifted. By killing all of the daelish elves you're not doing the warewolves a favor. You're dooming them to stay warewolves and infect others forever - and they want the curse to end.

If you care about their plight, that's something you'd never want to do.

I agree with that. Siding 'with' the werewolves is giving them what they want, namely the cure. If they are denied that, they do not get what they fought for.

I've had no problems with the elven range fighters in the final battles. They did quite well, in my opinion. The best ones however where the dwarfs. Tough as nails, and ready to rumble.

I found the Dalish to be total D***s.

They go out of their way to say they WILL NOT (cannot, whatever) honor the sworn oath of aid.

I was like .... HUH? You SWORE an oath! Come on dood!
